I would bet that the opening 15 minutes are the Black Ajah raiding the storerooms and Liandrin taking off. Sisters were killed in that raid, though it happens off-screen in the books. It'd make for a bombastic opening, inciting incident, and set up the coup for ep 3-4, which feels more on track for me.

Yep. This is a much better interpretation of the facts. And it jives with the shows pattern of showing things on screen that is off screen in the books. Besides, show watchers would want to see this event. Just saying “oh they got away” will not be enough

I had similar thoughts about the "first 15 minutes" discussion; I think it's too early for Suian getting deposed, but I think it could be Liandrin and the BA sisters fighting and escaping the tower
Plus most of the bloodshed happened from the Warders fighting the Younglings, didn't it? Siuan and Leane were shield, captured in air, and then stilled. I don't recall lots of sisters throwing fireballs at each other.

Welcome back! Good to see and hear you again. Glad you're optimistic about a season 4. I admit to being worried. Every streaming service has announced cutting back on expenditures. WoT is a very expensive production what with the various costumes and locations used for shooting. Bezos didn't become wealthy by being a heavy spender.

Am I the only one who is confused by the apparent skipping of the Stone of Tear and Rand obtaining Callandor? I haven't seen anyone address it, no matter how many times I see people mention that S3 is going to cover The Shadow Rising.

Yeah I have no clue where they're going with that, it's kind of crazy considering how important Callandor is as a plot device but also narratively and thematically.

The tower civil war can be the start of the season and the lead up to it could be shown later as flashbacks throughout the 1st and maybe 2nd episodes.

It takes sooo long for the season to come out that I just don't care anymore. I'm just gonna reread the books and whenever it comes out, it comes out. I'm not even sure imma watch it

Or it could be Siuan dealing with the mess that Elaida mentioned. I imagine the black and red are taking the opportunity to accuse Siuan of allowing Falme and also that her fishwife Moiraine was a df so she is probably one too.
So basically squabbling in the Hall followed by the ajah diplomacy later on in the season and then secretly voting to depose her. That secret vote would be quite a scene, especially when the last ajah stands to vote for her deposement and stilling.
"Shredding" would seem to refer more to a verbal dressing down.

... also ... my working theory is that the "bonkers" opening scene is the Hall of the Tower reaction to the events in Falme. Some will believe the Dragon has been reborn and seek to either support or oppose him, and others won't believe he's anything but a false Dragon. The infighting should be *chef's kiss* delicious.
I wish I could be excited for it, but the first two seasons were pretty bad and so I expect the next season to be bad as well.

I was thinking the opening scene would be a flash back to the age of legends before the breaking. Forsaken battling those on the light for the dark one.
Maybe the first 15 minutes will be the seanchan attacking the tower and the deposing fight will be in a flashback in a later episode.
I think the "shredding" is figurative and just being used to describe arguing, and is likely the sisters in the Hall of the Tower arguing and tearing into each other/the Amyrlin
On a sort of unrelated note, I just think Wheel of Time needs to be a Anime style animated television show. Then it can be as visually impressive as they want, can be as book accurate as people want, and you dont have to worry about the length of the show aging out the actors (since live action would take like 20 years to do the full series). Plus I just think the series would be amazing in that medium.

This is the way. For most book fans anyway. Arcane and several other good animated shows recently showed us that.
@@FullFNCode and I have so many fantasy anime that are so impressive in every way. Wheel of time and any other fantasy series really (I'm looking at you Stormlight) would be soooo good.
Aging in-show isn't really a problem imo, the whole story taking just 2 years isn't needed, it feels like a much longer journey. The real problem is it just taking way too long to make the whole show in real life.
Like others, I think the first 15 min is black ajah taking the angreal, etc, and setting up the Tanchico storyline for Elayne, Nynaeve, Thom and Julin (perhaps or maybe Mat) - and we get the action that received only a cursory coverage in the books. This, plus Siuan losing Rand to Lanfear and Moiraine (with help from Verin) will allow time for Elaida to build support in the Tower and the coup probably a few episodes later.
Maybe Mins vision of the deposition but seems really fast for the actual occurrence.
I agree with you Nae'Blis. The first 15 minutes will be the Tower change in leadership. But i think they will kill of Siuan; not just still her. I also think the conversation between Min and Elaida occurs post deposing. As with the start of Season 2, there will be a time jump between the end of Season 2 and start of Season 3. This will give Siuan and the rest of the Aes Sedai to get back to Tar Valon. Siuan will also bring Min with her. I think in the Show Min's gifts are common knowledge. At least that she sees glimpses of the future. I also believe the Min/Eladia conversation happens post deposing.
I do not think of Siuan's depossition is a coup. There was a vote. For most if the Tower, it met the bare minimum requirements. That some of the voters turned out to be Black Ajah in the books, does not in my mind change that it was a coup. In my mind, a coup is an illegal seizure of power that the participants knew it to be illegal. Most of the change in leadership thought what they did was technically legal.

I hope they give Rand, Mat and Perrin more prominence. I suspect theyll spend a lot of time focussing on Nynaeve's block due to her ineptitude in S2e8 and thr reveal of Moggy.
Cant escape the elephant in the room. 2 year gaps between seasons will not work in its favour.
They absolutely need to give more to Rand. Make him active in the plot instead of reactive and actually give him something to do, hopefully something impressive, too. Same applies for Mat and Perrin, really.
Who are Mat, Rand and Perrin? Are they in this show? I'm of the opinion that like the Aes Sedai, the writers think Rand is just someone that they can forget about and prop up in front of the Dark One when the time comes.
I think introducing Elaida in the same episode as the schism could be brilliant, especially if there is Black Ajah moving in the background being directed by an obscure character. Eliada's rise to power would establish the theory that she is BA, much like book readers suspected until the last few books

If we have a scene like the leaked interview script for Elaida, it makes a lot more sense for the opening battle of Aes Sedai fighting to be Liandrin and the Black Sisters leaving the tower, unless we're talking about some kind of non-linear (*Record Scratch*) "Wait, let's back up and explain how things got to this point" moment, which I don't expect for a variety of reasons.

Whilst the storeroom raid is the most likely, the show could start with Suian being deposed and then have "Two days earlier" or similar......

How can you even watch it? What do you get out of it? I literally cannot fathom how anyone could like this.
I'm generally very open minded, and I fully understand that different people can like different things, but I've watched Season 1 twice and tried to slog through Season 2 before giving up all hope. I cannot objectively find *anything* good to say about the series. Except maybe the scenery is nice? They did a good job building the sets? Otherwise, the acting is flat, the pace is rushed, except all the time they've wasted with Moiraine in the tub, the story doesn't feel cohesive, no character has enough on-screen time to build an emotional connection or investment with, the lines are stilted, the actors don't seem to know how emotions work (except the guy playing Perrin, who only knows how to be depressed about accidentally killing his wife who didn't even exist except to die so he could be even more conflicted, when there was no reason at all to add that to the story)
Whats the point it isn't like any season followed the books.

It isn't good enough on its own for casual fans to remember it, frankly. If it were a show on the caliber of GoT then theres a chance the casual fans could stay excited during a two year break but frankly its not, to casuals it looks like any other crappy fantasy show the likes of which Netflix makes routinely.
This new trend of a series dropped its new SHORT season every two years is really depressing.
I wonder if the first 15 minutes has anything to do with the capture/escape of Mazrim Taim. Could he have swayed some Aes Sedai to his cause?
For the post production, it has been now 2 complete months of work and also, if Rings of Power S2 took 1 year of post production, with all due respect of the prod on WoT, it should not take the same amount of time to complete it.
Perhaps the first 15 minutes is a battle leading to just before the deposition, but then after the credits they flashback to what lead to the opening? It is more satisfying to have something exciting right out of the gate, especially since we have been waiting so long!! I'm not getting any younger here, Amazon!

I feel bad about how she got skipped over on s2 . Why the white tower? Rand sitting on a wall and falling into the gardens would have been better.

Upon hearing rhe news that Season 3 finished shooting, my first question is not when Season 3 will air. I would be shocked if it doe not air sometime during the first 2 weeks of September 2025. Rather, the first question should be when will Amazon official confirm that Season 4 has been greenlit and filming is expected to begin sometime in (inser month of 2024).
I think it will be earlier as post production started last November

Opening of season 1 could both happen without the need to introduce and work in Elaida and Min and still be Siuan being deposed. Because maybe it's Elaidas vision and an adaptation as to why she's so arrogantly confident of her rise to power...without the end result of her arrogance and incompetence.

I wonder if Amazon is waiting to see how well S2 of RoP does before deciding which epic fantasy show they will continue with. Two years between mediocre seasons isnt going to work out for the long term health of either show.
Don't know if anyone has said this, but just because they filmed that scene first doesn't mean it is the first thing shown. It could be the last scene of the season for all we know.

@@NaeBlis true. rafe could have had his cake and eaten it too if he hadn't split up the emond's 5 in the first season. he could have had them travel together the entire time and given them all good character development playing off of each other on their journey. he has made so many changes, i dunno why that was the part he decided had to stay lol.
end of season one rand would go with the girls to the tower. season 2 would have been the girls and rand on one side, perrin and matt on the other side (they could have had matt come to fal darrah with siuane ). rand would have met lan fear on the outskirts of tar valon.
that way most of the gang would be with each other and they wouldn't have to separate time between the girls, rand, matt, perrin, the tower and all that. the girls get given to the seanchan and lan fear takes rand to cairhien.
also they did nynaeve dirty in season 2 lol. does anyone know what causes her block in the series? iirc, in the books, anger is what helps her break through when she needs to channel. but i think she would have been plenty mad seeing what the seanchan are doing to channelers, what they did to egwene, elayne taking an arrow to the knee, seeing rand stabbed and on the verge of death, has the series told us yet what triggers nynaeve?
@@xyr3s The actor for Mat left near the end of the season and then Covid hit. They had to scramble to deal with that. Apparently, their plan was for Mat to go with Rand and Perrin after the Horn like in the books, but that had to be changed to explain why he's no longer with them. There were still always going to be changes to the source material, but some of them were caused by external factors.

I am more worried about S7-8 than S4, this is a very long project, and it looks like it has to be greenlit every 2 years for 12-16 years, big ask. Don't know of any TV project that has done this.
I'm hoping at some point they will say we have greenlit the LAST two seasons of the Wheel of Time tv show and they will be filmed and produced back to back. I could see them doing that with seasons five and six.

Crazy how they wanted to cut 14 books down to 8 seasons (which made sense), but THEN take like 2 years between releasing seasons.
@@hamishalexander5048 This is not a direct adaptation of the books. I think S3 will be an outlier in that regard (I still think we will get some book 5 at the end of the season). This is an adaptation of the series as a whole. Large chunks of the book plots will be cut and only the major arcs will be adapted.

I worry that the fanbase for this show can't sustain such long breaks between seasons. The demand/interest is going to wane.
This show is so bad, I am surprised there is a fan base. After all, most of us fans of the books left half way through season one, when it became obvious that this adaptation was terrible.

I consider WoT to be the second greatest piece of fantasy fiction by an author behind Tolkien's works.
It's really disappointing to me that WoT wasn't given the same level of love and loyalty as what Jackson gave when he produced his films.

It could be a flash forward. They could start with the battle and then spend the rest of the episode on the events leading up to it. Or it could be one of MIn visions. I know in the book she does not see the battle, but her visions work differently in the show. Also, I love the idea of Rant capturing a forsaken instead of Lanfear doing it for him.
So we can see how they shield Rand and let others do the big battles. Maybe we can see why everyone should be afraid of Rand. After two season if you should fear anyone it would be Egwene.
If the Expanse can last for 6 seasons, WoT will be fine.

Im going to be negative here. I. A long long long time book fan, and this show is just pissing me off so bad. Im tired of people writing bad fan fiction of worlds I love. This show needs to either end or change from the ground up. It needs a whole reboot because the world they built has been so fundamentally changed that the characters i love are shadows of where they should be. If it had changed for the better, i would not be upset, but it's just bad. My wife has never read the books (give it time. I'll have her reading that and malazan soon enough) and she likes the world, but agrees that characters feel stunted and not consistent in what they believe. I have very little hope they can right the ship, but knowing what we have in the books and what this show is just makes me so very sad. I expect it to eventually be canceled, and someone else will get the rights, and we will see a more faithful adaptation of the books.
I never would have guessed Elaida would use an Uncle Ben quote, but it really fits her.
Am I getting more excited for a season of television that is over a year away at best? Not really, no.

@@NaeBlis Honestly, I think they'll skip it entirely just like most of Book 3. While TDR is where the books really start getting good, from an overall plot perspective TGH and TDR are like "Rand accepts being the Dragon, Part 1 and 2". Due to the fact that they have limited seasons anyway, they probably thought the plot development was redundant enough to just skip to TSR where the world and plot REALLY opens up.

I am amazed that you have kept such a positive attitude through this mess. It is your gift! I think it is odd to say that this may following the material more closely, but then all the examples suggest changed material. If it is as good as they say it is - strange, they have said that each season and have not delivered.
I can tell you that my enthusiasm for any show dramatically declines when it's 2 or more years between seasons. I know there are reasons, but knowing that does nothing to temper my declining interest. (And I do like the show, as imperfect as it is.)
Yeah, I made a comment elsewhere here that they elected to have almost half as many seasons as there are books (for understandable reasons, especially "The Slog"), but then are taking like 2 years between releasing seasons. Hopefully they'll speed things up and make the series binge-able.

Rafe says "set-pieces" what would that mean? Does he just mean the "setting" of the show? To me, a "set-piece" is well, a set piece...
"Set Piece" is movie and stage speak for a tightly choreographed elaborate scene, kind of like the S1 Tigraine cold open.

I'm going to be completely honest. After 2 seasons, I have lost excitement for the show. You get burned by the changes and cluster fuck that was season 1- especially the last 3 episodes (despite what is probably the best opener of any show ever, with Shaiel at Dragonmount). Season 2 started so well- and for so much, despite minor annoyances, I was genuinely liking it....until that abortion of an finale occurred that dumped all over everything the series had set up while continuing to double down on it lopsided focus, all in an attempt to create UNEARNED moments of awesome- moments that become cheap and meaningless and vapid.
Well, the writing is the problem- specifically the focus of the showrunner.
And my honest opinion is however good season 3 is, Rafe will fuck the landing. He doesn't respect the material or audience enough to be patient and let those amazing moments be earned. He doesn't let there be subtle slow build ups.
His writing staff worked beautiful magic with Lanfear and Ishy, with Egwene and Rena. They even made a waste of time plot (which they couldn't afford) like Moiraines sister work (a mistake, given the time cost, but still well done. Just like the Steppin story.)
But no matter the beautiful work of the writers, the amazing casting and acting, the set and costume designers, the music and FX (season 2), and so on....Rafe chose to go for the cheap and pathetic unearned finale that just left ashes in my mouth.
I'm sorry. I wish I could be excited. But I'm not. No matter how promising it looks, the problem hasn't gone away. The problem is there. No matter how amazing those moments may be....
...it's the ending. It's all about the ending. And 1/4 of a presumably 8 season show has shit the bed on the landing.
I'll watch....but I won't get my hopes up. I've been burned too many times.

This series feels like the rings of power adaptation and the only question on my mind is: When will WoT get a Peter Jackson like treatment?
I stopped watching season 2 when Lan, the greatest swordsman in the world, is torched and barely alive after fighting Myrddraal. The problem isn’t that they change timeline or story somewhat to fit the screen, as those things would be appropriate. The writers don’t understand the material and change crucial aspects of the characters that undermine the entire fabric of the story. This show is a disgrace, all the way from the beginning of season 1. Naeblis, I know your channel is entirely based on this world, but you standing behind this show is….a sellout? A disappointment? You fill in the blank. You can make a successful channel similar to Nerd of The Rings by making great lore videos and being honest.
I like the cast a lot, except for Perrin's actor but he hasn't been given an opportunity to do much more besides brood. It's a shame that we have a cast as good as it is imo, with a show like this. Hoping to see a better adaptation in my lifetime with an equally good cast.
The show has deviated to far from the books for me. I’ll hold to the works of Robert Jordan. Films NEVER make a good adaptation of the books.
The gap between seasons is too long for a show that is set to be 6 or 7 seasons. People will lose interest and the actors will age too much. Agree the first 15 mins will be to do with the deposing
The fanbase for the Wheel of Time is huge, especially between people now in their 40s to 70s. It could have easily been a massive success. Instead, none is talking abut this TV series, there's no hype. Judkins is a mediocre showrunner, to be kind. Amazon chose someone with almost no experience and here we go.

The show has been getting better and better, Mat is closer to where he should be, Perrin and Rand are poised for huge things, and face it, the forsaken are better than they were in the books 👍
Wait they're skipping all of book 3. No fall of tear? Yep definitely not going to watch season 3. Yes i get it's an adaptation, but skip one of the most important books, that is a big part of establishing that the dragon has been reborn. Thats just to much of a change.
The first 15 minutes will be Suain being deposed, but it will be one of Min’s viewings and all explained in retrospect
