Wow, I had a Tomy Mr Money in the 90's. I had completely forgot having it until seeing it in your videos! Now the thoughts are flooding back! Thank you 😊
I think of some plastics in the same way. Why add to the landfill, if it can be reduced. Just made a droid gameboard piece out of the handle of a plastic toothbrush, going to make three more. Started three other gameboard pieces from plastic vacuum connectors. Going to use pieces from a plastic coat hangers for another droid. Saved a piece of plastic from an interesting plastic bottle and saved some transparent color plastic bottles for infront of lights for robots. Recently sawed off the end of an LED bulb to get an interesting translucent plastic dome top for a retro robot. Being a Droidsmith it's entertaining to put an element of your own creativity. I prefer to add mostly off the shelf basic electronic components. From solar light, solar bobblehead, basic electronics kit and etc.
That's a really nice wall display c: I have my own army of robots, but they are sort of piled up in larger shelves, so maybe I should make them some tiny shelves too. I'm also working on refurbishment and restoration videos of my robots, so nice to see someone else doing that too, and I'll be checking them all out now c:
Those RAD robots are very cool. There are two versions. One like in the video, and an older version with a round head. They turn up in the thrift stores quit often, but they never have the remotes with them.
It dawned on me while watching this and with robots on my mind you started remind me Melanie Griffith from that movie Cherry 2000, which, is about a robot! I think it would super funny to have a "support a robot" fund for your patron and spot light each robot to help and tell a story about it's robot life and aspirations like that support a lil kid program from back in the 80s, they would send you a postcard of the kid your money was helping....kinda like that, you get the idea. Anyway I have a ton of love for toy robots too. Thanks for the tour.
I had a saturn robot. We got it from a second hand shop and it was stuck together with sallotape. No idea where it went. I still have my little ding bot. Mr Money isn't around now either. Must have let my mum give it away.
Hello Randi! I have a question about your marionettes actually, I'm trying to build one myself as I love them to death. Would you ever do a video of you showing the functions of them or maybe how you make them? I saw your site and it was very cool to see the inside of your puppet as most people wouldn't show that. Although I would like to know more about them. I'm not very wealthy and so buying a good and professional marionette is out of my price range, that's why I want to build one. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of information on actually building a marionette and I found that your the only one that actually shows how you make them, I just need a bit more info if that's okay. If not I completely understand. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Your videos are really awesome and I think you're an amazing artist and magician. Those robots are super cool too! EDIT: Oh my goodness! I hadn't noticed that you did some first looks on your marionettes! so sorry and thank you!
I can do one, but I might need you to kind of go over what you need to know. There's many different types. The Asian style is different than the European style, versus the American style. What points would you like to see?
