  • The People's Mosquito is a UK registered charity dedicated to getting a DH.98 Mosquito flying once again in the UK www.peoplesmos...
As we have now started fundraising to get Mosquito RL249 back in the air, we thought we would treat you to an extended version of our promotional video.
The People's Mosquito has a simple vision: to see the return of the de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito to the skies of Britain. The restoration is a non-profit charitable project whose aim is to inform and educate the public and future generations on the Mosquito and its place in history by returning this important aircraft to the sky, in conjunction with building a valuable web-based Mosquito resource, that will serve in remembrance of those who were involved with this, one of the best aircraft of the Second World War.
You can make a donation to the project on our Fundraising page at wp.me/P2633O-uu.
So here is the extended version of our extended promo, featuring the entire film shot by Brian Harris, DFC, when he was a navigator on Mosquitoes with No. 627 Sqn RAF in August 1944.
The film features footage of the raid on Deelen airfield in Holland at mid-day on 15/8/44 in preparation for Operation Market Garden. The airfield was used as a base for German Fw190s, Bf110s and Ju88s, and following several air raids that August, the airfield's use was suspended by the Luftwaffe and it was subsequently used for storing V1 flying bombs.
Those of you who know Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire will recognise some famous landmarks: Cambridge colleges, Lincoln Cathedral, Boston Stump and is that the Norfolk coast?

I was fine till I saw the Cathedral (lived in Lincoln all my life) :D then I suddenly became really emotional, and again at 7:56 seeing it land on one engine, wow :)
It would be amazing if the project was completed in time to do a flypast over RAF Woodhall Spa when it opens as a nature reserve ;) Just putting that out there :D lol

Funny how they showed Boardsides, near Boston, then Lincoln cathedral, followed by 'the Stump', back at Boston. Must've been done to confuse Jerry! Were they landing at Scampton?

Would say the were landing at Woodhall Spa as it had a mosquito squadron based there ,Guy Gibson was part of it till he went on a mission from that base in his mossy and never came back

The date of the film is shown as august 44, so the staion would be Woodhall Spa, not too far from Boston.
