Lyrics:
"Gone Away"
Maybe in another life
I could find you there
Pulled away before your time
I can't deal, it's so unfair
And it feels, and it feels like
Heaven is so far away
And it feels, yeah, it feels like
The world has grown cold
Now that you've gone away
Leaving flowers on your grave
Show that I still care
Black roses and "Hail Marys"
Can't bring back what's taken from me
I reach to the sky and call out your name
And if I could trade, I would
And it feels, and it feels like
Heaven is so far away
And it stings, yeah, it stings, now
The world is so cold
Now that you've gone away
Gone away, gone away
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah ooh
Yeah ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, oh yeah
I'll save your soul, whoa
Yeah, yeah-oh, ooh-ooh
I reach to the sky and call out your name
Oh, please let me trade, I would
And it feels, and it feels like
Heaven is so far away
And it feels, yeah, it feels like
The world has grown cold
Now that you've gone away
Gone away, gone away
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah ooh
Yeah ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, oh yeah
Yeah ooh, yeah ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh, oh yeah

I’ve never thought I would see Brian May perform an Offspring song in my life.
Me too.❤
Exactly what i said out loud when i saw this
So do I..😂😂🎉🎉
That's "Sir Brian Harold May CBE" if you don't mind awfully 🤣🤣🎸🎸👏👏
definitly
When you start as a punk rock band and later can just casually book a whole symphonic orchestra AND Brian May for your concerts, it's not just underlining how much you've made it. Its underlining how much of a legend you've become.
It's all money and power. Can be done at anytime with any music, really.
@@MrRatclima the offspring are not paying for the orchestra or Brian May, they are all getting paid by the people that bought the tickets. That is a big difference.
It's a garage rock, new genre
Punk band 🤣
Brian May started starmus. @@Tomas.Malina

Put this band in the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame now.
They're past due for damn sure 😮
Uh no.
Rock N roll hall of fame is not fit for purpose, its just a money grabbing scheme by its owners (bands need to pay to be in it), they will take anyone and put them in it even if they are only pop or rap and never done a rock song before.
@@Trh1No need to tell us you're a Biden supporters without telling us.
@@douglasreid699 I agree. It’s really the music hall of fame now but they don’t want to rebrand. Numerous artists are in who do not deserve it but they check boxes. That’s why. All politics.
In memory of those we have lost. The world has grown cold since you have Gone Away from our lives.
You were here during my childhood , and you're here again for my adulthood. Thank's brothers . You are living legends
^^^^ this, literally sums it up perfectly
This was always one of my fav songs by them. But MAN - when Smash came out it was LEGENDARY!
🙌👍👌
A message to the future generations: "DON'T LET THIS SONG DIE" 💞👌😊👍
original version just captures so well the young persons view, who has faced something earth shattering and the person just doesn't know how to deal with it, so there is just screaming and crying out the pain.
✋That was me, a 14 yr old whose favorite Uncle and Grandma died the same month.
[Now at 36 (been an Offspring fan since 8) didn't want them to play Gone Away at Yacht Club Fest last weekend to spare the tears, but I ended up crying to The Kids Aren't Alright! 😅]
Award to the biggest beta male comment
I like that thought. And this version represents a more mature person who also experienced incredible loss. Both versions are great.
Yep, I discovered this song when I was 16 after losing my brother 4 years previous. This song spoke to me perfectly at that time. I still love it almost 25 years later.
@@BarrySwords didnt ask for the life story
This had such a “Mad World” vibe to it….”all around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces,…..”
Agreed ! I was thinkin the same thing. haha
That's because it lifts the melody outright. 😂
You stole my comment! That's exactly my first thought!
Yup.. better to have Bri & Tears For Fears IMHO (or Bri & Weezer) 😜
Literally was gonna say the same exact thing
Two absolutely AMAZING performers. I LOVE Brian May, he seems like such a down to earth, nice guy and after seeing The Offspring in January 2025 in Cape Town, I am an even bigger fan of them than I was before I saw these awesome guys at the Calabashe Festival. Much respect to all of the very, very talented performers in this video. You are all amazing.
My mother died in January this year and a few days after the funeral this song played on the radio… that was the moment I finally cried my eyes out and could release all that had been bottled up inside me.
I'm sorry for your loss, but you're on the right path by releasing that bottled up pressure because so many of us bottle it all up, holding onto guilt, shame, confusion, humiliation, which is not our cross to bear in the first place. Tears are a way of cleansing our eyes & decompressing. Thank you for your comment. You've helped me put truth into perspective, whether you know it or not!
@@CognitiveChaosCreations Very true !
Lots of love
Sorry to hear about your mom man, hope you're doing well
My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family for your loss. Requiescat in Pace.
Wow. I don’t know what’s happened in the last couple of years but these guys feel reinvigorated.
Dexter sounds the best he has done for 20 years. The live shows are varied, interesting and engaging. And they are keeping the old material fresh. Love it. Great to have Brian in this as much as the orchestra. Won’t be to everyone’s taste but I like that they’re mixing it up - I’m a fan.
Also, this drummer… we don’t really get to see it in this video but the energy he brings to the band is incredible. Hopefully he’s a long term fixture!
He sings surprisingly better than 15 years or so ago when I saw him at a festival.
It's clear Dexter lost some weight so that's part of it. He still sings pretty nasally, but it just sounds like he worked hard on his voice the past few years to strengthen it. He used to sound out of breath.
These guys have been around and seen it all, it's nice to see them still kicking ass 35+ years later
not to be that guy but I think it's pretty clear Dexter's using autotune on stage nowadays. he's always been a good singer so who really cares, but that's why he sounds so good nowadays. I first noticed it in the video of them playing Million Miles Away with Ed Sheeran. Ed's on and off pitch, like any singer is live, and Dexter is perfect the entire time.
@@EricAmesmusic Makes sense
@@EricAmesmusic yeah I remember seeing a video of them playing on some show a couple of albums back, and the songs were all suddenly weirdly pitch-perfect. I mean Dex was a couple cents off sounding like black eyed peas. Having heard certain songs being slightly off pitch live for best part of 15 years the difference was pretty jarring. If he's still using it today they must have taken it down a couple notches as its not so obvious (or maybe the tech has improved, probably a bit of both). I think they probs are reinvigorated though as I think Dex has finished his studies and will hopefully have more time to dedicate to the band and taking care of himself.
wow, the Offsprings latest live shows are amazing! Dexter's vocals are impressive!
Yea, most people as they get older neglect to take care of themselves and persist with youthful bad habits. He looks relatively fit, hopefully they’re around 20 years from now!
I detect auto-tune and or some sort of pitch correction being used. While I think his voice is still not bad, I don't think it's as good as we're being led to believe. I noticed the same thing when I saw them live a couple years back. That said, I still appreciate him as he proved to us all that for the longest time he could sing without such effects. Everyone gets old and or experiences changes with their body's and vocals, that's part of life. This song is also timeless.
@@0verload There was NO AUTOTUNE. "I detect"... no you don't. you just reached into your ass, grabbed a weird lie, and hurled it at the comments section. I've been mixing and engineering since 1999, and have done FOH audio since 2017. "I detect auto-tune and or some sort of pitch correction" AUTOTUNE IS PITCH CORRECTION, GENIUS! stop bashing performers that put in the work to give us a genuine performance.
@0verload 💯 he definitely uses autotune and pitch correction. Same as Tom Delonge from Blink. I don't care really as it makes them sound better live. Tom especially, he's a fuckin dreadful singer live.
@@MonkHoward You sound quite angry and kind of irrational. The tone of your reply doesn't bode well, let alone the fact that you're seemingly unaware that Autotune is an app which does pitch correction and that the are many other pitch correction tools / effects out there doesn't give you much accreditation. I'm sorry if you want to live in a delusion.
Also I did give him credit for the past when he didn't use it, and also for the amazing song that this band has brought to us.
I was deployed to Iraq for my first tour in 07-08. My closest friend Mac showed me this song. He lost his battle after we returned. I will always think of him when I hear this song. I miss you, brother.
its crazy how even with 2 guitarrists and a full orchestra you can still hear Brian's playing loud and clear, he's really a God of guitar
The sound guy likely bumped his channel up a little to make sure his jamming was crystal clear
@@blackshirejif I was the sound guys boss I would have fired him if he didn’t turn him up. That’s Sir Brian f*cking May
The Red Special has a very characteristic and recognizable sound too
RIP, to my sister. Love you and miss you always! Gone too soon. 😔

Never thought there's ever going to be a live symphonic version of a song by a PUNK band, let alone together with Brian May. "Gone away" is just so timeless and universal. No matter what kind of grief or personal tragedy you've experienced, you can always relate to it. Since I first listened to it when I was in school and up to this day I cannot listen to this song and not have tears in my eyes. Hats off to this incredible performance!
NOFX doing The Decline at Red Rocks with a symphony is pretty good Punk with a Symphony.
can we discuss how after 35 years Dex still sounds AMAZING. One of the few that can sing his old songs in the same Key.
How do you make Offspring even bigger than they already are? Throw in a dose of Queen. Very cool.
And an orchestra.
When I first heard this song in its original punk version on the „X-nay on the Hombre“ album decades ago, it brought tears to my eyes. Today I‘m sitting here in my kitchen being comforted by my 8yr old son, cus I still can’t stop all these memories.
This song brings tears: I miss my mom, my dad, my grandpa, and Charlie! GOOD PEOPLE!!
May they rest in peace. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you recovered well.
@@boeinga370 Thx. I am recovered and top music like this lives on, forever.
I’m only after finding this and I’m in shock, never did I think I’d hear the offspring doing such a vestibule sounding song, and Brian May on a side quest with them, I love it 🎉❤
Wow. Gone Away is one of my favorite songs ever. I never thought that so many years later, we'd get such a beautiful and epic new version. And with Brian May! What an honor for us old school Offspring and Queen fans.
I absolutely agree!🙌❤
I always love seeing the look of complete joy on Brian May’s face, every time he gets the chance to play with a hard rock or metal group. He has such a love for the rock genre altogether
This is why u should never committ suicide, u will miss out on things like this. ❤
This is amazing! Dexter still got it man. Saw them at download fest uk and was blown away 🤘🤘🤘🤘

every version of this song is amazing . I love them all
This is the most legendary version of this song to ever exist. Tears, goosebumps and incorporates everything I love about both versions of the song.
Long live The Offspring!
I am a 40 yr old male, It's been exactly 1 year since my Mom died unexpectedly, it hurts so bad. I know she is in Heaven waiting, but it feels like Heaven's so far away!
This was one of my favorite songs during my childhood. Now, as an adult having lost some really close people in my life, this song brings me to tears EVERY TIME. Thank you for writing such a beautiful piece of art.
This song is honestly a masterpiece. Everyone feels it at some point in their life
That drummer stole the whole show for me! Amazing!! 😊

Dude, this performance is like a direct nostalgia attack on my psyche. This song can really be played in whatever way they feel like and it'll always be powerful. That's insane!
The clarity of this guys voice❤
I don't care who you are, or that you've been making music for decades.
Turning your head and seeing Brian May rocking next to you has got to blow your mind.
Also, love this stripped back version - it highlights just how strong the song was when it was released so long ago.
just wow i am crying

So awesome to see Brian May out there with them and especially for this song. RIP Freddie. A true legend gone far too soon.
Beautiful song, great performance. To see Bryan May on stage with The Offspring - priceless😎
Wow what a voice can’t wait to see u guys live in Melbourne aus 2025❤
This song always makes me think of my husband who passed away in 2015 😔 absolutely love seeing this performance ❤
What incredible badassery is this?! Mind. Blown.
I got a Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony vibe. Awesome!
I wasn’t ready; ok let’s watch that again and again!
We used to not hear his voice due to the guitar, no i can say he holds a great voice 😊
Great live performances didn't see that coming brian may wow!
I admire Brian Holland of the Offspring as a musician and his quest for knowledge. One of my all time favorite bands and that's over decades going back to the 60s. 😎🤘
Молодцы! Декстер прекрасно вытянул песню🥲👍 меня аж до слёз пробрало
Оркест + Браян Мэй отлично дополнили этот замечательный трек🤘
I loved this version. I’ve listened to this song many times, but this performance has a “Mad World” feel to it.
Always think of my Mum when I hear this song. 30 years gone this year. RIP Mum til we meet again ❤
This has to be one of the best songs of sorrow ever written, stunning in all versions 👍💪💪
No matter how many times I hear this song it gives me chills, I've even requested in my last will and testament that this exact track to be played at my funeral. I guess I have to start thinking of stuff like this now and I honestly couldn't think of a more beautiful song.
Whenever i listen to this track , the original , it brings tears to my eyes for no apparent reason. I guess i'm not alone .
Wow, Did that just happen?
I love it when Original Performers change up their own songs.
Just a Great Performance and Noodles just being a Noodle.

This is such an amazing rendition of an amazing song, but I do wish they had let Brain May rip a little more. A proper Brain May solo at the end of this would have been the icing on the cake!
