Art style feels a lot like "The Wandering Village."
I was wondering whether it was a sequel to wandering village from the video title. 'First you had you're village on the back of a dino, now you're in the back of a crab!'

@@Essenji We created our games at the same time and have become friends because of it! In fact, Kainga released first as I've been working on this for 4 years. It's actually based off of an old game called Populous: The Beginning. But it sure was a shock when we discovered each other's games haha!

This is actually a lot more interesting than the first minute or two had me thinking. I'm definitely up for seeing more of this, and I might also have to look for it to actually play it myself.

yeah, really tells you how fast the time flys.I think it was heavily inspired by it for the graphics atleast. I still prefer the Ombu over crab tho.

I’m glad Shmeichel’s roasts were a bit longer this time, usually when he decides to insert a snide little bit of text it’s gone so fast I don’t even have time to pause to read it.
Even if this is just a Wandering Village clone I really hope we get more games in this genre, part Rimworld, part Frostpunk and part Spore would be a DREAM for me.
I doubt the solo dev has made this after wandering village was released. They have probably been making this for years by now

While it's likely not an exact clone, the similar art styles makes me wonder who/what the two games are inspired by. Is there a specific graphics pack with this art style? I don't see many games with this style.
@@Strawation it's not very similar, the wandering village has nearly everything in 2d except for ombu, this has a lot of things in 3d, also, I'd probably say it was made like that to save resources, as the arts seems to be specially made for each game

Thanks! I take it as a compliment, the devs and I are friends now thanks to the similarity of the aesthetics, but Kainga is more of a roguelite with shorter play "sessions" and more building/unit variety

This game got me thinking of Populous: The Beginning, but with the roguelite mechanics seen in Against the Storm.
Populous was my favorite game as a child. I got tired of waiting for a sequel!
The way the tribe people pray and build and move. It gives me SUCH a Populous vibe! Man I miss that game
My favorite game as a child. So I remade it! Except you have the king in chess instead of the queen, if that makes sense.

I love games that look like this, a mix of 2 and 3D is always cool.
this is a game that i respect despite not having played it because...
it touches on something that sweet old populus the begining did about rts... is not manpower a vital resource ;) ....i just so badly wish it sell in nuts numbers so the guy could afford to hire assistant coders and dual develop it ,both as rouge light... but also with potential 'endless' terrain and the classic save load function to return to a game when ever you wished like in populus .....ever will i dream of a populus the begining in full 3d and larger maps.. but still able to run on potato comps ^^
This is a cool game - haven't seen a village builder with rogue elements in it before. Hope we get more of this!
Got some nice Populus 3 vibes. The 2d sprites, followers being called Braves, the way construction works, queuing for training, the cheering animation. Brings back great memories
