      The most effective programmers often possess an engineering mindset, which equips them with the analytical skills necessary to innovate. My approach involves dedicating time to the creation of novel algorithms and venturing into uncharted territories of thought to contribute fresh solutions to existing libraries. While tools like ChatGPT are incredibly resourceful, drawing from an extensive database of pre-existing code, they are not designed to originate new concepts from scratch. Cultivating the ability to independently tackle problems is invaluable. As you hone this skill, you may encounter challenges that have yet to be explored, and with your problem-solving arsenal, you’ll be well-prepared to devise original solutions.

      If only man. I'd prefer them over our currently "leaders". Imagine the world being United by an AI with a global UBI system where people are given just enough credits/currency to pay for living expenses like living space,water,basic food (rice,bread,eggs,etc) and electricity but not enough to afford luxuries like new machines, fast internet, quality food (eating out, high quality meat like wagyu,etc). So people would still strive to produce value so they can afford such luxuries. With rules in place in the system to prevent our whole kerfuffle now with wealth inequality. Military is also mainly commanded but not controlled by the ai, same with other sectors like research and science. But no, this stuff will most likely just make it so big corps can cut down costs by reducing staff and governments can do what they're doing now but faster with help from ai. I mean, we have the means to end world hunger right now, we just don't do it because we can't decide who should lead the world so we can properly pool our resources and supply chains together, and because it would be unprofitable at the end of the day. It's literally like that dinosaur episode in rick and Morty, we just can't live without problems. So much so that we make our own. It rings true of the words of the late russian philosopher Fyodor Dostoevsky. "If humanity was given a utopia, they'd ruin it just because the human condition won't allow for such a thing to exist". Maybe one day in the future, humanity's nature would change enough to allow utopia to be achievable, but the odds aren't great at least not imo.

    It's great at outputting code snippets, which you will likely have to provide multiple prompts to further fine-tune. In the end, it generates some solid code, but you still need development knowledge to know what and how to ask it and then piece everything together - it performs best when providing small, concise and detailed prompts (ask it for something too complex/large and it'll reject the prompt altogether). While this will eventually replace development jobs, for now, it'll strictly be a time-saving tool for engineers, replacing existing boilerplate generation and autocompletion tools. As developers, it would be wise to start getting efficient at using AI tools like this. Software developers will always exist in some form, but their responsibilities and how they perform their roles will change (as will many roles outside of development too).

    • @efhiii
      @efhiii ปีที่แล้ว +8

      In asking it questions, I've found that it tends to be over-confident. That looks impressive when it's a problem that isn't too hard and or has been solved many times where it can pull from to create an answer, but when you ask it to solve a problem that hasn't been solved before, it will proudly provide an answer that doesn't actually work, and when you confront it on that point, it will apologize, and try to fix its mistake, often making no actual improvement.
      It's definitely impressive, but it can only handle simple challenges.
      As an example, it's very bad at math when it doesn't have the answer memorized so to speak. For example, if you ask it for the square root of PI, it knows that it's about 1.77245385, but if you ask for it in binary, it confidently gave me 1.10100100110110100 which is about 1.6439.
      It has a very good understanding of the relationships between words, but it doesn't understand the implications of words, which results in sometimes putting words and characters together that contextually seem reasonable at a surface level, but when paying attention to the actual meaning, do not.

Sometimes the end result once tested doesn't actually run the way you would expect or work at all. With that being said, it does do an amazing job 80% of the time. I mean in more complex tasks you still need to think about and know what to do. I kinda expirienced this when we had project in school and we were supposed to create compiler for their own language they requested. And my team mate was supposed to make parser, and he wrote it using co-pilot. It had tons of bugs the code didn't even make sense in some places and in the end we find out he used wrong approach anyway. So i had to spend whole night rewriting it. Also half of my class is now facing being kicked out of the university for plagiarism because they used co-pilot in algorithm class homework because it wrote em exactly same code😂😂👌
    So i wouldn't worry about it guys because since we have these tools it will be teasing new students more and more to use the AI instead of actually learning it. Resulting in them not having the actual knowledge of what are good habits and can cause problems and etc. Failing later at getting degree or failing interviews. That means even if they managers decide they need less programmers because they can code faster now, there will be less people that will actually be qualified so make sure you're one of them and i think you'll be okay!

When developers write codes separately to different mobile OS, give cross-platform language? So as I see, we'll adapt to use this, to generate code without writing from scratch. But still, software engineers should be there, to craft it as it needed to shape as the business needs. But what do you think?
