The quantity of fuel required for the flight is calculated by the pilots based on the flight length, load and weather expected and no one else!

I think it was a plane swap and ours was originally destined for another destination... still that's entirely AC's fault IMO.

Johnny I'm so sorry that you got to go through this nightmare. Unbelievable that they don't maintain their planes. Uhh.. I think needing more time to fuel the aircraft is a service issue, not a safety issue. Overfilling a plane is negligence on their part, not a safety problem with the aircraft.

I went through Toronto to Portugal. The flight Almost ended up taking an extra 45 minute layover on another island to drop off some jet part. Luckily last minute they made an announcement that we would be arriving early to the proper destination. I'd recommend the really cheap hotels next to the airport. It's not the best quality but at least you get a bed instead of An airport Seat. convenience is the best part.

Air Canada and that flight in particular is a nightmare. I was on it back in February and the flight wasn't canceled but delayed for 9+ hours. No apology no explanation noting. When I complained after the fact I got the standard corporate fob off that they couldn't foresee the failure, bullh*t. Look at the performance of that flight of flightradar and you'll see Air Canada clearly aren't maintaining their aircraft, which is scary to say the least.

I think I would rather pass up the opportunity to go somewhere that is only accessible via Air Canada, than to have to travel with them.

I had almost the exact same experience on an AC flight to Heathrow (same time as your flight). Got an email just as I was about to leave home for Pearson that the 11:40 flight was delayed till 2 AM. I rebooked my airport taxi & got to Pearson afetr 10:30pm. Upon checking in, I got a $20 voucher for food. Everything was closed at that hour. I flew business class & was looking forward to the special lounge, but it was closed by the time I arrived. Unlike your flight, my delayed flight took off at 2AM. I was so tired I barely ate my meal, and I dozed off during most of the movie I watched. Thank goodness I flew Business class to get a decent night's sleep on the special seats. Next trip to Heathrow I'll take an earlier flight. Maybe even a different airline! The late-night flight you and I dealt with seems to be cursed...LOL!

Around same day as your flight, my cousin from YVR coming for a wedding was rerouted from a nonstop flight to connection via Edmonton. Instead of arriving at midnight, he arrived at 5am. The airline is a joke. Instead of “You and I are met to fly”, it is “Let’s get it up”. I will fly them just to see how bad they are and then tell the stories 😂. From an AC shareholder.

The food on these other airlines were pretty good. BA attendants usually happy to serve anyone asking for extra alcohol - one time a BA attendant gave me an extra red wine cos "they're small bottles!"😁

The moment you said it was a Boeing 777 at 1:51 , I knew there would be long delays due to maintenance issues. 777s and 787s were the Boeings scandalized by whistleblowers and fraught with poor quality control issues and its up to the maintenance crews to spend many hours every time it lands to double check that everything is safe so it doesn't fall apart when it's airborne. Ideally, Air Canada should have replaced their Boeing fleet with Bombardier or Airbus, but the costs would be astronomical. The long time President and CEO of BOEING Dave Calhoun had do resign this year over the poor quality issues. BTW--if I knew it was a Boeing flight, I would have cancelled my ticket. I posted a short video of an undercover journalist who asked employees at the factory if they would fly a Boeing and most said they would not because they knew first hand of the poor quality control and the union kept it quiet. I'm sure they'll be denying you compensation blaming it on safety issues as safety issues due to poor quality control are well known with Boeings.

Oof! Wishing you safe and quick travels.
I've never flown with Air Canada and only hear bad things about them, so just add your story to the long list.

Par for the course with AC. Claims process is a joke. AC is overscheduling their equipment and crews to maximize profit and quality is the lowest in years.

Actually no it's not. The joke is actually people who CHOOSE to fly with Air Canada or any airline for that matter then complain how somehow everything is the airlines fault. Grow up.

I blocked Air Canada in my travel list since 2011, as much as possible, no flying with them.

Me too. I can understand provinces where there is very little choice of airlines but with Toronto being a hub, I research every other option to avoid AC. My travel tends to be South so I choose US-based ones even if it means two connections to avoid Scare Canada--- my personal name for this airline. Same flying East--Porter, even if it means a prop plane stopping in Ottawa and Halifax.

I normally wouldn't, but if it's a matter of getting a better flight time AND saving $500...

How exactly is it Air Canada's fault? You CHOSE to fly with them. You CHOSE a flight with a layover. You CHOSE to go to London. Whatever the delay was is not the fault of the airline. People like you who are so entitled need to start learning how to take accountability for your own situations that YOU create.
