  • “The optics of it aren’t great.”
Front pages dominated by the Australian senator Lidia Thorpe who heckled King Charles, rather than the success of the royal tour, will not have been in the designs of the Palace’s PR team, says Sarah Hewson.

The title of this video is ridiculous. The media chose to give one person's outburst prominence, which is why she acted as she did. Lydia didn't have the courage of her convictions when she swore her oath of loyalty to the late Queen and her heirs to get her foot in the door, but you won't call out that hypocrisy. Meanwhile The King seemed more amused than anything else and has continued to carry out his program of engagements, and quietly launched The King's Foundation Australia, to give ordinary Australians similar opportunities to those achieved by Dumfries House in Scotland. I'd suggest he's far more concerned about making that a success than he is about whether you put his face on a front page or not.

The protest is fine, a valid point historically, but maybe she should look t her own Country's voting record on who now has power and who owns what: Last year, Australians overwhelmingly rejected a plan to give greater political rights to Indigenous people in a referendum. ALL six states voted No.
British Royalty today is symbolic anyway and 'The King' (whether he's yours or not) can't decide ANYTHING about Indigenous rights, other than acknowledge the past, which he has done frequently and shown great respect.
If he was to say today, "Fair enough, Australia is now no longer part of my vast British Empire, it's been fun, good bye!" It would make ZERO difference to the lives and traditions of Indigenous people.

She does not represent the vast majority of His Majesty’s subjects in the Commonwealth of Australia. They are overwhelmingly either committed to constitutional monarchy, or simply oblivious to or apathetic with regard to ‘republicanism’.
However, she’s embarrassed & shamed the country, unfortunately. And I, for one, harbour suspicions that the hard-left there ( they appear to be extremely powerful in Melbourne, seemingly ) orchestrated that obscenely crude, rude display. Australia appears to be in danger of being undermined by its very own ‘Bay Area’, Northern California enclave of extremism.

Republics are unstable and fall very easily. The USA, France, Venezuela, Argentina and Brasil are all examples of how republics waste so much energy in instability. As most Australian including indigenous Australians have British ancestors it seems intolerant and wrong to hate our king for being of mixed ancestry. We all have mixed ancestry.

This discussion skates over the fact that Australia’s First Nations people had enormous injustices done to them by the British government and people. It was the British who took their land. It was British settlers who massacred tribes in order to create vast land holdings, it was British prospectors who shouldered the First Nations off their land and the destroyed it for gold without any recognition that the people saw themselves as part of the environment equal with the rest of nature. And what do we get from Sir Keir Starmer? Crickets! Britain did all this without a treaty. Remember Australia was part of Britain until 1901. Time for a treaty, time for reparations and time for Times Radio and their “ Royal Correspondent” to stop being jelly backs and show some spine by calling out the human tragedy caused by their occupation of the land.
