Great Review! One thing I was able to do with the stainless steel keeper was to pinch the center point carefully with a set of pliers creating a slight "V' shaped bend, in doing so the keeper stopped sliding. Now it wears perfectly and the keeper doesnt slide off at all.

Great review. I know I'm late but I just got my turtle crafter blue strap this week and love it. Fits perfect, wears amazing and has given my Seiko way more wrist time now. Expensive yes, but to me worth it. Took 2 weeks to arrive though but I'm in Australia.

I was having the same problem with the metal keeper sliding on the stock SRP777 rubber strap. I measured a good placement spot for the keeper and then put a small dab of silicone on the part of the keeper that touches the underside of the rubber strap. I bunched up a small piece of tissue into the keeper to provide enough pressure and prevent it from sliding while the silicone dried overnight. When the silicone dries, it is invisible and the metal keeper will never move again and the aggravation ends.

I bought mine in 2021 via Amazon, delivered next day, no issue with spring bars and came with 2 rubber holders and 1 metal holder, i use the 2 rubber holders, fits perfect with my Tudor 41mm. Wont be as nice as Tudor rubber strap but for a fraction of the price you cant go wrong.

Wow! Thanks. I hadn’t even noticed the rubber keepers. I’ve switched them with the metal keeper and now a strap I already liked, I love. Thanks.

Okay…! Now this is why we watch all these type videos and the read the comments! My only complaint about my Crafter Blue rubber strap with fitted ends for my Tudor GMT was the metal keeper. I had not noticed that the strap kit came with two rubber keepers that are easy to install. I learned about that from reading the comments here. Great. Thank you.
Also, by the way, my Crafter Blue straps came in very useful, soft plastic, ziplock containers. They’re very versatile and useful.

Patrick, nice review. I am posting this almost 4 years after this review and can provide an update on the keeper situation. I ordered a navy blue CB for my 773 turtle and the stainless keeper is present on opening the package. CB also sent along 2 vulcanized rubber keepers in the package that perfectly match the navy blue strap. It appears that CB has taken the feedback on the mediocre keeper performance and augmented with the optional double rubber keepers which harkens back the the nostalgic days of double keepers on Seiko divers. You can use one keeper or two depending upon personal preference (I use two). It’s a fix for the keeper issue. Overall I am a fan of the strap and it is a definite upgrade for this watch. A bit expensive as you mention but the fit and finish are excellent.

I have 6-6.25 inch wrist and im cofortable wearing a turtle on a bracelet. I thinking of getting one of these but im having second thoughts because i have a feeling that the strap itself is thick and the watch might look bigger on my wrist and ofc that extra rubber hanging out on the side of my wrist while wearing it.

I know this video was about fitted rubber straps; however, I recently bought a Barton strap (blue leather) for my Seiko Turtle SRPB11 and love it BUT it also came with skinny spring bars (quick release) that cause me a bit of doubt regarding the true toughness of the strap. Any thoughts on the Barton quick release spring bars?

Oh! Hey, I did a review for Barton - to include their *QR Spring Bars* - but, the short answer, not a big fan of them on my Seiko Turtle... Otherwise, they’re alright. I’m partial to using tools/regular spring bars.

I had a navy Crafter Blue on my blumo and never took it off. Cannot imagine wearing the watch on any other strap(miss my blumo!) 😩)- not so keen on a CB for my mm300 though as I use the 22mm new rubber/silicon strap from a samurai (squeezed on) or the steel bracelet- or a leather nato.
For the sumo it’s a necessity though- anyone with a sumo should get a crafter blue. It should be the law

  • @khronokraze

Metal keepers look cool, but they often don't work that well. I feel they often make them a bit too wide or open and loose. They should make them just a tad small so the fit is tighter, especially if you're going to have just 1 end keeper.
The constant adjustment of the keeper to keep the strap's loose end secure would kill the enjoyment for me. I had one of the nicer Seiko rubber straps that came with my SBBN033 Tuna and it does move more often then I'd want.
Also, I personally prefer to have 2 end keepers rather than just 1.
I need one for the far loose end of the strap, of course, but often that's not enough because the portion of the strap coming right out from the buckle can be loose or pushing away from the rest of the strap and consequently your wrist as well. With one keeper you can only place it either at the end to keep the end from sticking out, then that leaves the section between the keeper and the buckle to push out from the strap.
OR, if you pull the one keeper closer towards the buckle, you then leave the loose end to stick out & away from more.
You can't win with just 1 keeper.
So, there should be another keeper closer to the buckle to keep that portion down. You really should have 2 end keepers to keep the loose strap end secure. I can't emphasize that enough. I hate loose strap ends!
If Crafter Blue and Seiko included a 2nd metal keeper, that would probably help out. But, they are rather fat.. so, maybe they should make the metal keeper smaller (narrower) and not as open because as they are they don't seem to be doing a good job to do the simple task of holding down the loose end of your strap being 1 fat metal keeper.
I would not pay $65 for this type of strap. The loose keeper is a detail, but a major one which can be VERY distracting.
I would stick with the nicer Seiko rubber straps, Uncle Seiko, or perhaps some other ones which may not be fitted, but at last overall has a build and fit that is very good without the quirky annoyance of a loose single strap keeper.
As with the nicer Seiko rubber straps. I'm not sure it's silicone, as someone said.. I have found most silicone staps are very soft and comfortable. BUT, I have also found silicone straps to be lint and dust magnets. That's another strap peeve. You can't just brush them off, you need a wet nap or be like a cat and lick your "paws" and wipe the dust/lint off. It's almost as annoying as an overly loose keeper.
So, for this reason, I do not believe Seiko straps are silicone.. at least not pure silicone.. they don't seem to catch lint/dust as bad as most of the silicone I have had experience before and wipe off and keep cleaner a lot better.
I find synthetic straps made of perhaps a polyurethane to be smooth and easy to clean, although, not necessarily quite as soft and subtle. I really think Seiko has their own special proprietary formula for their "rubber" straps.. like much of their products, they make their own mineral crystals, quartz crystals, lume, etc.. it would stand to reason Seiko probably has their own special "rubber" material for their straps.
Too bad about customer service. I would lose a good deal of confidence in a company when customer service is not that good.
A recent experience to relate. I recently purchased a watch from Christopher Ward. They are often heralded as having great quality for the price and original styles. The product is not in question, yet, I am waiting for customs to clear so i can finally get my first CW and see how it is. The customer service isn't all that. I made a goof up on the billing and shipping address, I called at least 2 times and emailed 3 times to be sure they corrected the information. And, one of the last emails says it's been taken care of.. And, when I get the shipment email, they still botched the shipping address. Basically at least 5 times to confirm and reconfirm and then some, they told me it was fixed, and yet the end result it wasn't.. UGGHH!!!.. Additionally, CW is a UK-based company, but they have US contacts. However, whenever I contact CW in US, they cannot help me, have no information on my order, and have to transfer me to their UK office, if available, to try to contact someone who can help. What the hell is the CW US customer service number for other than an operator to relay the call to someone else in another country? That's all they ever did for me, no help.
Anyways, sorry for the rant(s). Thanks for the video, none the less.

Hahaha, *you’re welcome.* No worries about the rant, I do that too. Sorry for your troubles with C. Ward. I’ve almost purchased from them on numerous occasions. Let me know your thoughts on that piece when it arrives.

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze 7 ปีที่แล้ว

Take Time, w/Patrick Marlett regarding CW, I just didn't expect the lack of information and ability to perform some basic customer service, failure to correct order after no less than at least 5 times communicating with them, and show and irresponsiveness to emails. They shipped my stuff fast, but it's about the details of my order and not getting a satisfactory interactive experience with CW customer service which needs some improvement.
I will let u know once I get it in.. Maybe tomorrow if it gets out of customs with no further delays.
Thanks and I look forward to your next video as always.

Get those Toxic bars from US or Twente(o) in Australia. Take only a week to UK from Australia.
You can get 1.78 or 2mm. Will the 2mm fit?, probably yes in the Crafter Blue.
You can get ones with 2.8mm and 1.8mm length tips in 1.1 or 1.2mm you just have to check for the ones you think will be best.
The Seiko lug holes are 1.2mm diameter..and the 1.2mm fit perfect. I guess the 1.1mm will be a little looser.
The long 2.8mm tips work fine with drilled lugs and rubber straps. They're not so easy to use on the stainless bracelets though.
I need to order some more but they don't have the exact size I want so I may have to compromise a little on the sizes.

Does the downward curve of the strap lift the watch off the wrist like some Casios?

    • @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett
      @TakeTimewPatrickMarlett  7 ปีที่แล้ว

Slightly, yes... the curve where the strap meets the case is quite prominent. You’ll get a slight lift if your wrist is 7.25” or more (like mine). It’ll be more drastic should your wrist be larger.

  • @RK-zo9vs

I've got one for my Dark Manta, looks amazing in black, the Rolex oyster rubber look. They included 2 rubber keepers in addition to the metal one in my package, so it looks like they took note of your review, the rubber keepers fit perfectly. My only gripe is the size of the wide strap holes. I fitted my Seiko original buckle and it has a small pin, so it would be better if they made smaller holes so it fits the original buckle perfectly, it does however not dangle at all, as the Seiko buckle locks in place. The top 3 holes on the strap is unnecessary, doubt anyone has that small wrists and the end of the strap would stand out awkwardly if a kid was to use them, would be better to just offer a shorter strap version for kids. Having said that I prefer it to any of the Seiko strap options with that snug fit against the case and it looks fabulous with the original Seiko buckle fitted. I ordered over Amazon and a few days went by before it was shipped, which I thought was funny as expedited shipping was requested, but it was worth the wait for the look I wanted.

Great-HONEST review Patrick. I've just used a drill in the past on rubber strap spring bar holes (take your time, but it works). I had the same problem with Seiko spring bars.
Bonetto Cinturini, an Italian company, makes the best rubber straps... and inexpensive too! I bought mine for about $30. Bonetto Cinturini makes the Marathon watch company's straps. They are "vulcanized" and have that amazing vanilla scent - which still is present after 6months of wearing it. Best damn rubber strap. You can buy them on Amazon too, so easy to buy/ship/return/etc.

Bill Murphy hmm, mine were quite comfortable on day 1, I don’t really wear it enough for it to soften up more I guess. It’s hard to have a strap that works for everyone but if it’s uncomfortable to you then try a different one? Not an ideal answer I know but it’s like finding a pair of perfect jeans, it’s a tall order for sure.

Nice channel. Could you be the “American Adrian @ Bark & Jack? 😊).
I have several of the Crafter Blue rubber straps. Adding to your commentary, I might suggest that price-wise, these are actually cheap, being on the affordable side as compared to say Everest or Rubber B. I bought my Crafter Blues for Tudor and Rolex watches.I also find the metal keeper to be the most disappointing part of the product, BUT, not so much that I’m overall disappointed. On their non-specific, generic lug end rubber straps, Crafter Blue uses rubber keepers. They’re better. Now the good: the fit into the lug-space on my Tudor GMT is perfect; it honestly looks like a Tudor OEM strap. BTW, I have a dark blue Crafter Blue rubber strap (and a black one) for my Tudor GMT. The dark blue of the strap matches perfectly the dark blue color Tudor uses on their Black Bay GMT bezel. And also good, the strap length, combined with the numerous buckle holes, makes this dive-capable strap an ACTUAL dive-capable strap; in other words, it’s very easy to put your dive watch on over a wet suit using the Crafter Blue strap.

Thank you. I don't want to buy anything expensive from brand that have no good customer service. I will buy 4 Barton elite strap with that money. Thank you Patrick

These are very quality looking and built but in usage it’s pretty bad. The strap doesn’t curve around the wrist but rather puts pressure on the sides of the wrist. It’s also the hottest strap I own in warm weather

I bought from these guys three times. I like their straps, service not so much. The sent me the wrong one two times. No sorry or anything. The eventually got it right almost a month later.

Yikes, thank you for sharing this... So it wasn’t just me? Other folks have had issues too... *Thank you.* I got a sorry *and* an excuse... So, not much better.

Hold the keeper in place with a small piece of gorilla tape on the underside of the strap

Put a Bit of hot glue on the inside of the metal keeper .

It looks like you can buy a seiko rubber strap for about $40. Also, this is your second time using the "word" Ovaline, I think you invented a new word, LOL.

Spring bar isn't a big deal and the fatties are just a Seiko gimmick, you make a bigger hole in the strap and then it rips when trying to take it off! Every other brand uses a smaller thickness spring bar and I hear no complaints when using rubber B, Everest or ISOfrane, If the stainless keeper bugs you just pull off a keeper from another rubber strap.

Crafter blue’s spring bar is sooo useless with SRPD and CB10 strap. 80% unuseable.

Amazing how some have really missed the boat with their opinions on this strap.(especially this reviewer)
I have just added a $65 dollar strap to a watch that only cost a few hundred bucks. Reality check required here folks. Do I have your attention, reviewer?
    Absolutely beautifully custom fitted.
The pins supplied will probably last this side of forever.
    Soft and supple strap.
Exceptionally well made. Incredible value in relation to price.
About the only criticism that was somewhat accurate was the lacklustre service from this company. Went through a similar experience. This company could definitely use a tune up with follow up and delivery.

You have my attention: it’s still just fine, as I’ve owned/used multiple better/more affordable options, but I am glad you like it. These are only my opinions. You own the product already, but I’m happy to see you checking out commentary on these still. Thank you for your thoughts. Be well Edward.

Crafterblue watch bands are nice but customer service is some of the worst I've found anywhere. Really BAD I'm talking about... unfortunately they have a third world mentality when it comes to valuing a customer.
