Didn't you know Costa Concordia Captain Francesco Schettino was released from jail and immediately hired by Carnival? He was on the Glory's bridge with his Moldovan dancer girlfriend when the collision occurred.
Wow, people that complain about a ship missing a port due to the seas need to see this !! Yes beautiful day, yes not too rough, BUT the current or undertow is very strong!! One cruise we were in Cozumel Captain tried to dock 4 times but because of the current couldn't, he ended up docking at the downtown pier.
Good thing ships are not built to crumble like modern cars do in a crash. The integrity of the ship seems to have withstood the bump of 100thousand ton ship collision. I think of this event this way- I would rather be on the Glory during this docking accident than on an airliner that fails to land.
It sure was windy .... these ships are big and you cannot stop them on a dime. It is scary since my family and I will be sailing on the Legend a week from Sunday with one of the stops being Cozumel...
Did they ever stop and assess the damage to see if they should even set sail back home? I was on the Glory in Sept...a great ship and I personally met the Captain...a great guy.

I hated Cozumel. I guess this is one more reason to never go back. Not enough docking room. We were followed down the street asked if we wanted to buy drugs, by numerous people. Dirty. Awful port.
@@b-trucker7717 I'm not scared of Mexicans, I was married to one. It was an awful place, nothing to do or see unless you wanted to shop, which I didn't want to do. I never wanted to go to Mexico, had to go there. Cruise ports were changed at the last minute.
These massive slab sided ships acts as sails when there is a strong wind. Hopefully the Platinum Restaurant on Glory was empty when the ships collided.
I used same analogy when it happend. The wind had the waves breaking hard on the seawall that morning. We were scheduled to snorkel with Tiger Adventures but port was closed to recreational boating Friday morning due to winds. Spot on.
I remember Cozumel before the cruise ships it was a divers paradise. You could actually bargain with the merchants. Last time I was there they didn't care as thousands of cruise tourists would be there the next day... Paradise lost...

Minor damage - shouldn't cost more than about $10 million to repair. Meanwhile, more and more passengers (after consulting with the herd of lawyers on the docks waving their arms), have reported that their necks and backs are hurting very badly.
Experienced cruise guests return for many reasons. Carnival is getting a lot of negative attention because they are the industry leaders in the Cruise travel business. The odds are, even if people move to other cruise lines not affiliated with Carnival- they have cruised on Carnival. It doesn't work the other way, because other cruise lines don't offer as many products, itinerary options, ship size, #of sale dates- and vacation pricing values as Carnival. It isn't always 100% perfect, but I have been disappointed and over charged for the product I thought I was buying, for land based vacations. I understand the cruise vacation product and appreciate that it is available. Each ship has a bit of it's own culture and unique cruise experiences. So it is difficult to review this cruise line as a whole. It is truly the sum of it's parts. And, all water navigation has hazards inherent to it's environment. People who boat, yacht, cruise- should understand that reality.
Legend was docked, and not moving. Glory was leaving port, and was blown into the bow of the Legend. Rear dining room on Glory was hit, and apparently passengers were injured.
Wow you can tell the Captain on the Carnival Glory was scared that he was going to hit the Oasis of the seas when it looks like he give the stern thrusters full power by the looks of the smoke coming out of the smoke stack.
Full disclaimer I’ve never driven a ship. Seems to me if I were driving a ship I would not get within a half mile of another ship. A half mile in ship years would be a Foot in car years.

Pilots do not dock or pull from the ports, people!!!!! They only navigate the sea lanes into the port. The Captain of the ship is 100% responsible for all close quarter maneuvering at the dock. Yes, sometimes the Chief Officer, 2nd in command will be in charge-- but it is still the Captain's responsibility. Trust me -- I made a living doing this.
Well - that's the end of at least one career. The winds! The winds! Yes but the master of a ship is required to be able to anticipate all the conditions and make the appropriate moves in anticipation. I hope the next captain is better at comprehending the dynamics of the physical laws of motion than this guy did. Clipped the bow of a sister vessel Legend then nearly ploughed sideways into The RCL Oasis. I wager the next job will involve selling used cars or Florida time shares on commission.

Holy moly! We were on the Glory just over 10 years ago. The damaged portion is exactly 3 decks below our cabin!!!!

I went to cozumel last year and I didn't see that or people followed me,you just scared of them Mexicans I think😅

Becky Hort weren’t leaving port. They were trying to dock but the current and the wind got them.. eventually they managed to dock
