To my ears, I found the Audio Technical got the best value when compared to the Schoeps, it can be even better when recording musical materials because of more the lower end.
I think the AT is really good value for money overall. Sounds really good and so far after testing, it is so far the entry to “high end” sound. It does have its own signature but generally pleasing. The more appropriate mic to compare should be the schoeps 641 which I have another video.
You’re right, they sound rather close to each other. The biggest difference in my opinion is at 2 feet the CMIT sounds really a little nicer. But for 4x the price? No way.
In my latest review of the cmc 641, I learned that mainly the difference will be outdoor and with longer distance. Shotgun mics mainly show they capability when there’s a lot of environment noise all around or when they neeed pick sound at longer distance
I'm a happy owner of the at4953b. My question is, can this mic do a good job for outdoors mounted on a shockmount on top of my camera?
yeah still not worth stepping up to the schoeps...the 4053b still sounds as good as needed for my work. thanks for the video :)
Great video!

I have both. I’ll probably sell my audio technica. I have a senheiser mkh 50 that blows the Audio technica out of the water.
Well the AT is what I feel as a entry professional sound. Can’t compare to the mkh50 which is a staple. The cmc641 is probably more comparable to that
