    Excellent review. A good tube amp, especially for those who have never tried one. For anybody who spends a lot of time listening to headphones but has only a solid state amp, trying a tube amp is totally worth it. Many will like tubes better. I'm one of those people. Every once in a while I try one or another solid state amp but keep going back to tubes.

      What is your favourite tube amp?

    • @SnowyFinland
      @SnowyFinland 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@7in1 Sorry for the belated reply. My favorite tube amp: ASL MG Head OTL. I've got a Bottlehead Crack with speedball and Darkvoice 336SE, but I spend more time listening to the MG Head than either of the others. It sounds better. I've tried to figure out why; it's looking like the main cause of the better sound is probably its having a different topology -- it's not a cathode follower amp. Its output section is instead a simple voltage amp (signal taken off the plate rather than cathode). The treble is more realistic, and it's more detailed. The only potential downside is its high output impedance; this doesn't bother me at all, since I listen almost exclusively to classical orchestral and chamber music. So, tight bass doesn't matter (large halls notoriously bloat the contrabass). You can pick up a used MG Head OTL for cheap. To make sure it's the OTL version, just look for Mark II or Mark III.

      I'm using it as a preamp for my Klipsch RP400M and it does increase the bass and soundstage significantly, like you're hearing music in a shape of head band hanging above & slightly behind the top of your head, and it's ultimately pleasant. And i'm listening at a very close distance, from my seat just raise my arm and i can touch my speakers.
      Previously without the TA26, the music came directly to my face which makes it unpleasant to listen to for a long term

      Yes, placed it between my MiniDSP and Sony ES amp hooked to some Altec Lansing 846b Valencia speakers. Didn't really add the traditional tube signiture everyone expects. Just muddied the bass a bit and took a little life out of the mids and treble. Also seemed to distort or get worse at full volume. 🤔 I have a simulated tube profile for my miniDSP thats more convincing than this thing... If your looking for a tube head or pre amp look at a piece of Schiit.

    Hi there.
    The data sheet says it's suitable for 60-600 ohm cans, in spite of that, does it fare well with lower impedance dynamic headphones as 16-32 ohms? Because you tested planars on them , and any planar will suck with tubes.
    Does it handle old rock, hard rock, indie and metal well?
    Keep up your great and informative work✌✌

      Planars won't benefit from tube amps or higher impedance hybrid ones. Planars are expensive for a reason, they already sound good as they are and don't need a higher output impedance.

    Thanks to your review, I ended up buying the TA-26 for both headphone and preamp use. I am now using this with the Psvane CV181-T MKII Classic (6SN7 tube) and it sounds fantastic with the 58x Jubilee (150 ohm) even without any burn-in. Very crisp/detailed; but non-fatiguing. I only expect this to get better as the Psvane burns in 72 hours or longer.

      A fact that A30 pro works well with all possible impedances down to 8 Ohm was a deciding factor for me. But if I was in your shoes, it would be a very tough choice. • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The amount of volume control actually depends on the sensitivity of the headphones. The higher the sensitivity is (105+ dB) the less you need to keep your volume pot and it might be too sensitive with small adjustments. Headphones that are leas sensitive in terms of dB/mW will not have that problem.

      The TA-26 pairs very well with the 560s. I start at 25% volume for easy listening and go up to about 75% for some particular songs. 75% is very loud and would not recommend too much listening at that level. The 560s sounds great at 75% with no distortion on this amp.

    I just got my unit and I'm wondering, is it normal that the transformer is pretty loudly buzzing when it's running?
    It's really a great amp but this constant buzzing or humming noise from the unit itself js very annoying. I might have received a bad unit.. Did your unit have this humming sound too?

      Big transformer inside its power supply is the one doing it. But normally it should be just a slight buzz that's noticeable only when you're close to the unit and it's silent around you. On my unit I only noticed it if I really lean close to it, but couldn't hear it at arms length.

      They're definitely coming back, I just had a lot of personal stuff last few months taking away my time... So I fell behind on those. 😔

    Had one and it was the least tuby sounding tube gear I'd ever had. Specs are too good and clean kills the tuby flavor had to return it. I have vintage solid state receivers that are warmer than this thing. Searing bright blue LED on the front also is very annoying and kills the ascetic vibe. LED should be white to blend better with the tubes or red to match the knob.

    I wonder how AKG K701's would go with this at 62 ohms.

      should not be a problem I run my 712 on tubes in the past, now Focal Clear with lower impedance also w/o a problem

      No, it's just a big hot tube. They are inherently very very hot. I know few people with tube amps that stop using them over the summer because of the heat.
