I never knew that this was Sia! During Covid they used to play this song with a commercial talking about the pandemic saying that we had to be strong and make it through this difficult time. Some made it and some didn't. It will forever be a reminder of that time. I just watched the movie Music and it brought tears to my eyes. It was a good movie, it just was not about an Autistic girl it was about loving and accepting a person as they are.

The prone restraint scenes are dangerously ill-informed. I'm a support worker and fellow Autistic and scenes like Music being thrown on the ground with force mid-meltdown physically hurt to watch. Also the plot hinges on Music being institutionalised or not. This isn't even a question for anyone working in the industry where those institutions are living hell for disabled folk
It’s not the music that is the problem. It’s the movie! Watch the movie and see how wrong it was. They casted a neurotypical girl to play an Autistic girl, and they directed her to act really stereotypical and offensive.

This is my favorite song right now. I love the lyrics, especially when it say's "Can't love me unless you love you too". I love that. It means that You have to love yourself, first, before you can really love me. After my divorce and reflecting on my marriage, I can vouch for how true that statement is. Looks like almost every video of Sia has a lot of kids/teens dancing. What is really impressive is how they are all synchronized. Every move they make or smile. Guess it takes a lot to learn all moves and do them at the very excact time.
Actually it's always the same girl. They have sleepovers where they share a bed. Also the song happens to be from a movie where they basically mock autism.
I've heard that a filmmaking trick for that is to have the dancers make the moves slow as you film, then speed up the video when playing it back.

@@johan3959 but this movie is supposed to be meant to show representation for people with autism. Most of them have sensory processing issues, and a majority of them would be extremely overwhelmed watching something like this. It defeats the purpose of representation if the people it's meant for can't even watch it or be a part of it. On top of the fact that they have a neurotypical person representing a community that is not theirs.
@@emilyjenkinson6688 Not all autistic people have sensory sensitivity, some of us are actually sensory seeking and like lots of visual input.
As a person with autism myself, as well as epilepsy, the bright colors and loud music were too much. Many on the autistic spectrum have something called Sensory Processing Disorder. This makes everyday stimuli overwhelming.
Also the fact that Sia handled things horribly online didn’t help either... it just made her seem closed minded and immature. All people were doing was pointing out the flaws and issues the film had. And all she did was get pissed at everyone who dared to criticize it.
To be honest, I’m not even angry over the fact that Maddie got casted. That’s quite common. But it would’ve been nice to have an actual autistic person act there part. That way, they’d have some experience on what having autism is really like. However, I am angry that I have to keep repeating myself to others. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried explaining this to someone and their response was either “I don’t care” or “If you don’t like it then don’t watch”.
The fact that Sia replaced that autistic girl instead of giving her accommodations to make the set and experience more comfortable for her, is just wrong. Instead, Sia just casted her star Maddie. And that to me just Durant sit right... Maddie was FUCKING crying to Sia! Begging not to be in the film, due to the fear of being made fun of and getting backlash from this. But Sia pushed her forward anyway, saying it was fine. Shows how much she cares...
I know not every autistic person is the same as me, but please try to understand where we’re coming from. We aren’t hating on this film for no reason. We’re trying to explain why it makes us so uncomfortable. If Sia truly plans on releasing a film representing our community, it should be comfortable for EVERYONE within that community. Not just the handful that like bright colors and loud music. I know not everyone can be pleased, but surely you understand what I’m trying to say. Right?

@@deejay08 i think the OC just wanted to point out the similarities in the choreography and the dancers (bc some of them i think were in The Greatest as well). When u actually analyze the two MV's, they're actually like polar opposites since The Greatest is more about mourning for the lost with a little encouragement reminding us to not give up and Together is a pure celebration of joy found in friendship and solidarity.
