    Just made the wallet and It's such a great pattern! It fits 4 cards each side easily. The snap-button's position is very functional. Because the snap button's position on top makes the wallet close flush, as the buttons width is almost the same as the thickness of the wallet with 8 cards and some cash.
    It was a delight to make. two pieces of leather, 4 short stitch lines and a snap button!
    Thanks for sharing the pattern. Much appreciated.

      Awesome! Use it! Some customers sent me photos of this wallet, which showed that they managed to load up to 6 cards on one side. And that's 12! It works :)

      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, there is one simple rule that you should follow. It consists of two parts: first - the leather loves volume. Secondly - the leather does not like sharp corners.
      Considering even these two points, I think you can achieve a different approach in the design of your things.

    Love the design. What leather are you using here? I'm looking at making this with American Bison, would you recommend that leather?

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sure. Bison is a great option. The main thing is to watch the thickness, it is best if it is around 2mm (0.08 inches). And the internal part can be even thinner. The main thing is that the skin is tight and does not stretch too much.
      Here I used regular combined-tanned cow leather.

    I have a question, when dyeing the flesh side how do you prevent the dye from going through and cause dark spots on the skin side? For me I feel like the only thing that's been working is dying in thin layers but I noticed you really soaked the leather. When I soak the leather like that it ends up going through

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's strange that this is happening to you. I've never had problems with painting. I can assume that the problem is in the paint itself. I use edge paint for the "double face". It could be Fiebing's, Girba, or Kenda. Penetrating paints that can penetrate the skin through are usually alcohol-based. Maybe this is exactly what you have.

    • @Matthiasschweizer
      @Matthiasschweizer ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the fiebings pro dye and ive heard someone else having the same issue and he told me to do multiple thin coats, thats what i do now and its been working. I was just surprised to see you being able to use so much dye on the flesh side. Maybe its also the type of leather, i use a natural color veg tan leather @@badweatherworkshop

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Look... Leather type, in this case, does not really matter. The type of paint matters more. Fiebing's PRO Dye is an alcohol-based paint. Any paint of this type has high penetrating ability. This description can be found on the company’s official website.
      I use Fiebing's Edge Kote. This is an acrylic-based paint for edges. It does not penetrate deeply and creates a stable layer on the inner surface of leather.@@Matthiasschweizer

    • @Matthiasschweizer
      @Matthiasschweizer ปีที่แล้ว

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the type of paint makes a big difference. For the front, I don't use this paint for the edges. For face paint, the alcohol-based paint you use is just right.@@Matthiasschweizer

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bad weather is more about the state of mind and not about what’s outside the window. But this is not bad, on the contrary, it's calm. When there is bad weather around, it's warm inside the “shelter”. In this state you want to create.
      I will try to make more videos and more often, but for now, ordinary and stupid work takes up all my free time. I try to free myself from what I don’t like, but it doesn’t work out very well. It's just the way it is :)
      And I am very glad that people like you like what I do. Thank's.

    • @RoeRoe123
      @RoeRoe123 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What a kind reply sir. Thank you 🙏 I've been watching this on loop 😅 I can imagine having a life and trying to squeeze this in, especially if you're doing the editing yourself because the three videos I've watched are excellent.
      May I ask about your leather? You stated 1.5-2 thickness and then I think the word you used was to make sure the outer piece was "sturdy"? Does that mean kind of stiff because I have some upholstery leather and it's more flexible, I was even wondering if I could slick it and press the back similar to what you did but perhaps use something along the line of Elmer's All-Purpose and let it dry. Maybe something similar but made for leather.
      Is that a totally crazy thought to try and stabilize the leather? This is a little stretchy.
      Sorry for the dumb question, I just have a lot of it.

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you are right, filming and editing takes 6-8 full days. And besides, I’m still learning this process).
      You understood everything correctly about the outer piece. It is better to use hard leather. Any leather becomes softer over time, even the roughest, and if you make a wallet from soft, it will not hold its shape well. And it’s more difficult to work with such leather because soft leather almost always stretches. It can be stabilized and made tougher, but only temporarily.
      There is one life hack: dissolve a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in a container of water, heat the liquid to 70-80 degrees and drop a piece of soft leather into it. After five minutes, take out this piece and place it on a flat surface (a piece of glass). Remove excess moisture with a sponge or towel. After drying, the leather will become tougher, but I repeat - this is not a panacea. Just an experiment.
      I advise you to leave this leather for some other projects and for this, choose something more rigid, saddlery type.

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Edge paint it is one way to make a double-face. Different masters do it differently. Some use tokonole, some use acrylic paint, and I like edge paint. It dries quickly. Although to be honest, you can do without it. The short cut underside of leather - is what some people like.

    I make patterns as well, and shape builder in illustrator is my favorite tool inside the software. Your wallet is very unique, just wondering what those slots are for, more cards? Thanks for the pattern.

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you. Glad you like it. Slots on the pockets for cards can act as a divider. One card can be inserted into the pocket as usual, and the second into the slot. So it may be useful to divide the cards that you use most often. But it's not fundamentally important.

      Спасибо, рад что нравится. Про кожу к сожалению не скажу, я просто не знаю, как этот артикул называется. Несколько лет назад друг прислал кусок и с тех пор она лежала. Так сказать режим ожидания был). По свойствам она достаточно плотная, не тянется. Привычный шорно-седельный вариант в общем.

    Очень красивая работа, и материал хорошо подобран. Простите за вопрос, вот прям немогу, можно узнать Вы же Русский, ну не иностранец во всяком случае. Если так, то можно узнать, почему все на иностранном языке? Имя или псевдоним, титры. Просто непонятно мне, новерно многие так делают, зачем непонимаю, стыдятся языка своего чтоли, или как? Если незатруднит, разьясните пожалуйста. В Ваших трудах огромных успехов желаю.

    • @badweatherworkshop
      @badweatherworkshop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Приветствую, спасибо. Все гораздо проще, чем вы думаете и возможно ответить на это вопрос одним словом - аудитория. Большинство авторов, и я в том числе, рассчитывают на то, что их видео будут смотреть везде. Чили, Индия, Мексика, Корея, Нидерланды и еще огромное количество других стран. И в каждой точке всем всё понятно. С другой стороны, в конкретном случае, не так уж много текста который к тому же не имеет особого значения. Если в будущем "пояснений" в роликах станет больше, то я обязательно буду добавлять субтитры. Как-то так, не переживайте, всё нормально).
