My wife and I plan on taking three grandsons to Anatartica. Looks like Viking Polaris is a good chocie. They will be 16,14, and 11 when we go. They live in the Nhoreast quadrant of Michigan's lower penensula and are well used to cold, snow and ice and have no problem with the cold. Thanks for you video.
Thank you for the update. We will try a different cruise line. Unfortunate. These are not city kids. They can move about the forrest with ease and winter is nothing but fun for them. Best regards: DRS / RVN Vet.@@PopularCruising
I was very impressed by the ship’s stability. That said, in the Drake Passage, any ship is still susceptible to significant movement from time to time.
How would you compare the Viking Polaris/Octantis to the Hurtigruten Roald Amundsen/Fridtjof Nansen, especially for a couple of science nerds? The prestigious science partnerships on Viking are tempting. Is it worth the extra $$ for the Viking experience in general?
That’s a good question. Viking has actually scaled back on its citizen science opportunities in the lab (although they still bring out the microscopes from time to time and interact elsewhere), while Hurtigruten’s science center is publicly available and a bit more active. Bon voyage!
November and February are considered shoulder seasons so prices will be lower than during peak season. The weather is comfortable either month. But you may not see as much wildlife activity in November (whales still migrating, chicks haven’t hatched). February is peak for whale-watching but the landscapes aren’t as pristine anymore and the penguins will be molting. Still, the price difference is probably worth the cons.
Why are videos like this sooooo afraid of talking about cost? The reason I believe is because as I've noticed price varies dramatically! I'll give an example: I pulled into hotel late at night like 1:00am cause I was to tired to drive anymore and was charged $450 by the front desk. Mind you I had to check out by 11:00am the next day. Upon my return trip I booked the SAME room online from a discount travel website I won't name and my price $128! They take advantage of people as in my case I was simple too tired to drive and need a safe place for me and my family to sleep and the gouged the @#$% out of me seeing I was desperate at 1:00am. Blood suckers the whole travel industry makes lawyers look like saints. Don't get played! Book ahead of time and negotiate always. Everything is negotiable.
Please remember to SUBSCRIBE to our channel! ~ Are you interested in taking an expedition cruise on Viking Polaris?
Yes. It does put the expedition cruise expreriance on Viking to Antartica a must do for the Antarctica cruise season.
We’ll be there in 2 weeks time.
@@alicemcdougall2541 Bon voyage!
Two weeks to go. Woohoo. So excited!
Bon voyage!
I've seen a lot of Antartica Cruises Videos and this ship has probably the best food i have ever seen for cruises to the 7th continent.
the activities are really appealing, especially the subs!
good show.
Thank you!! We are taking this trip Jan 2025! Very helpful!
My pleasure! I'm so glad! Bon voyage!
This is a goal of mine one day!
this is your best video yet
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
WOW!!!
A similar experience on Octantis in January but no top deck barbeque.

My pleasure! FYI, Viking only accommodates guests 18 and over, though. Bon voyage!

Going on this ship in February. Do they make a stop at the post office so you can mail your postcards? I keep forgetting to ask the representative.
They don’t make a stop, but they can mail a postcard from there back to you. Bon voyage!
Does the ship move around a lot on the open sea or does the ship's stabilizers smooth things out?

best time to go to Antartica? Nov Viking cruise much cheaper than the January cruise. Big difference in weather?
I’ve only ever been in January, so I can’t personally compare, but I believe either month would be great for different reasons. Thanks for watching!

No Emperor Penguins?
Not on this particular itinerary. Hoping to see them in the future for sure!
No gym?
There's a fitness center shown here: th-cam.com/video/vnXKaY01DZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QH7jzyMvo6yXBNop&t=595
