Thanks for the good vlog. I also just booked with Albatros for their Antarctic Circle expedition. Hope it will be one of my life’s greatest experiences!
Awesome video, Thanks very much.Visiting Antarctica, same cruise ship but 11 nghts 12 days, from 28 Nov.to 9 Dec. Looking forward to this exiting adventure.Your video helped a lot on what to expect. Thanks once again.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video. I've watched quite a number of video's mainly to see which ship to go on, and I feel yours was the most fun.
Great video! Thanks so much for posting! In 2016 we did the Ushuaia, Argentina to Punta Arenas, Chile on an expedition ship owned by Australis. We explored the Drake Passage and we able to land on Cape Horn! Not many ships are able to dock there because of weather conditions. The glaciers we saw were phenomenal! Truly a trip of a lifetime! In May we going on an expedition of the Scottish Highlands on the Ocean Albatros. This is the sister ship to the Ocean Victory. Really looking forward to it!
@watchuswander yeeess, I have two question if you can answer, please! Could I bring a small tripod for my cell phone or will the wind blow it away? I won't bring a camera. Is it necessary to bring two waterproof pants? Thank you so much! it's official, I'll spend Christmas in Antarctica! 😂
Hello! When the ship is stationary or sailing through bays, I don't think you'll have a problem with a small tripod! We had very clear and calm weather and were able to sit and look at the scenery for hours. And you shouldn't need more than one pair of waterproof pants! We wore ours multiple times. Hope that helps! Have an incredible trip!!
Many thanks for sharing your wonderful experience. You are very lucky to have seen all you did and wish we were there too. Very good nature filming and explanation. We also love penguins. We were lucky to see some in Phillip Island Australia when we travelled there. Best wishes from England.
@@watchuswander thanks for the reply. The penguins are called Little Penguins and they can be found in Phillip Island which is a 90 minute drive east of Melbourne. You can book a seat at the daily evening parade where they all come in from the sea and walk past you on their way to their burrows. Best wishes
Great video. I may be going in Feb, but I'm concerned about the "Drake Shake!" I'm a Navy veteran and have been in 40 ft seas. Not anxious to do THAT again!!! Scott
We completely understand not wanting to deal with the Drake Shake! Luckily there were lots of good movies on the stateroom TV, haha. Thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful time in February if you go!
Do you all have a packing video or list for the Antarctic trip? We are going with Viking at the end of the month. I know they provide a parka, boots and rain pants, but I don't know how much of everything else I need. Great cinematography, btw, the best I've seen!
Hello! We do not have a list but our friend John over at In The Loop Travel has a great article and video all about packing for Antarctica. Check it out here: bit.ly/3HectLr We hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching our video :) Have a wonderful time with Viking!
which month was this , because there seems to be a lot of sun ? Besides, expedition ships seem more equipped to deal with drake passage, than normal cruises to Antarctica ?
Hello! We sailed to Antarctica in mid-February. Expedition ships are built for many kinds of waterways - rivers, calm ocean, rough ocean, etc. Generally, "expedition cruise" just means that guests will do a lot of exploring. Expedition ships are fitted with landing craft to go and explore remote places. Plus, expedition cruises are led by highly trained guides. What you'll find with vessels crossing the Drake Passage is more sturdy construction, high stability in rough weather, and the smoothest movements on high waves for guest comfort.
We had darkness since we were north of the Antarctic Circle and we traveled in mid-February. The middle of summer (around December 21st) marks the longest days of the year. We hope that helps!
Thanks for sharing the nice video! Which month did you go there and for how long was the cruise in total? I am thinking of doing the Antarctica cruise with other islands (Falkland and South Georgia), but need to decide first how many days exactly it's worth to spend just in Antarctica :)
Hello! We traveled to Antarctica in mid-February and the trip was 10 days total. Here's the itinerary: albatros-expeditions.com/expeditions/antarctica/south-shetland-islands-and-antarctic-peninsula We've been told South Georgia is absolutely amazing so we hope you're able to go there! Let us know if you have any more questions :)
@@Coolme3333 We've read that December and January are best for seals and birds (penguin chicks hatch in January) and February is good for whale sightings. You'll also have more hours of daylight in these months, which may mean more frequent and longer zodiac rides and more chances to see animals! Hope that helps :)
Hello! We did not book directly with Albatros. Most Albatros cruises are sold through travel agents, even though they do book Category C cabins directly through their site. However, many guests we chatted with on our cruise were able to find good discounts/deals with their travel agents. We hope that helps!
I’ve been watching so many videos like this because I’m ready to go. I would go right now, but perhaps the 25k is what I’m finding to be quite daunting. Is that the average price for something like this?
Hello! The price really depends on the company you book through. Many guests on our sailing paid around 8k/pp thanks to a great deal found through a travel agency. Other, more luxury lines, can easily charge upwards of 25k/pp. I would say the average will be around 12k but we suggest shopping around to find the exact accommodation/package/inclusions/length that you want. Thanks for watching :)
Hello! As there are no public facilities in Antarctica, it's best not to drink too many fluids before an excursion. You're usually only off the ship for 1-3 hours max. However, in the case of an emergency, expedition leaders do carry small mobile toilets in their gear just in case.
Hello! Kelly bought her waterproof pants off Amazon - they are called "Postropaky Womens Outdoor Snow Ski Pants Waterproof Hiking Insulated Softshell Pants Snowboard Zipper Bottom Leg" in the listing. We hope that helps! And have a fantastic Antarctica cruise next year! :) Thanks for watching!
Hello and thanks so much for watching! Cruise fares for this itinerary range anywhere from $8k to $14k+. Most cabins are sold through travel advisors, who may have access to good deals. It's worth checking out!

This will be our first post-retirement cruise - or whenever I have $25,000+ lying around to spend before that.
It's definitely a bucket list cruise, that's for sure! Thanks so much for watching :)
There are always last minutes sales for half or less than the retail price... look for local tour operators in Ushuaia
