I believe red rubber makes the difference in stamp quality. Photopolymer is popular and "handy" because you can see where you're stamping (or stamped if you need to re-stamp the image). Red rubber however, shows the design details so much better than the photopolymer. I know people don't want (can't afford or like) to spend the money on a stamp platform. The upfront cost causes sticker shock but over time, I firmly believe a stamp platform pays for itself (more ways than one!!!). I've been a Penny Black fan for years! Quality and style always show, no matter how much time has passed. I've also been a Jill Foster fan for years! I love your style Jill. All your cards have an elegant look, even those with "little critters"!!! This was an excellent tutorial as always! TFS
I didn’t think it is boring or too long You explain so well about the different watercolor paper. I can never get the right kind and get the results i want so will try you kind of paper. I love the one with the table and sweet little birds thank you for taking the time to make these videos
Thank you so much Jill for taking the time to make this video for us. I love all these cards, but I have to admit that I prefer the ones with the birds.
Not a bit too long!! It’s all the little details that make such a huge difference! I actually took notes! Each time I watch your videos I learn something new. I love that you use so few products, that the PB stamps are such quality, and you show such a variety of ways to use, with such beautiful results! Less is more! So Thank you!! Simple and elegant!
This was a fantastic video. So much great instruction. Not too long at all. My favorite flowers are hollyhocks. That card and those colors are the best!
Almost forgot...my favourite is Songbird, and the best part is that I'm off to the border in the morning to pick up a big PB order including this lovely stamp! 😁🚘👍
Hi Jill - recently discovered you vids and am LOVING them. I'm learning so much and find so much inspiration! I've been a stamper for 30+ years - yes back in the days of Rubberstamp Madness magazine! And Penny Black has been a company that's been there all along... like Hero Arts. But the Penny Black website is nearly unusable. Very unfriendly to shop on for a number of reasons. Please pass along to the PB staff/owners to take some time and upgrade the site. I guarantee your sales will improve. I work in a ecommerce-related field (not web development) and gather analytics for ecomm businesses so I know what I'm talking about. I mean this in the most positive way possible. Keep up the amazing vids - and yes, Penny Black does have great designs!
wow!! Very impressive video. I'll be hanging on to this one. So informative. And it definitely was not too long. You packed a lot of information into 38 minutes! You are so easy to listen to and watch. I have struggled with water coloring for years. Just can't find th enjoyment and relaxation with it like you do. It is work for me, I try too hard. Maybe now, after watching you, I can approach this with a whole new feeling. Thank you, thank you.
I think that you are amazing. I never get tired of watching you paint even if it’s an hour or two hours. I’m really trying to follow your techniques, but I think it’s gonna take me some time to get as good as you are.
Chock full of helpful tips; beautiful cards created. My fav was the image with the succulents and the music sheet background stamping. Thank you for sharing/posting!🎉❤
Had to go back and watch this one for more detail - thank you for all the fabulous instruction. My fave is the succulent pots on the stool with the sweet little birds. What a gorgeous image! Thanks again Jill🙏😍
These are beautiful and I appreciate all the tips and 'tricks' to get lovely results. The florals are very pretty and I like some of them 'up-side-down' because it reminds me of hanging floral plants, especially the purple-pink with butterflies. TFS
I agree, not too long!!! You are so helpful and teach better than anyone else out there. Thank you for sharing all that info from paper to water to color!!! It's awesome!!! Thank you again, you are the best. I want all the videos you can put together!!!
This was great Jill, very useful to see how you work but also to see the comparison between the more detailed card and the simpler version. As I often paint in the simpler style, I’ve learnt that those images can still look really good and are appreciated by the recipient. As you say Penny Black stamps are so well designed and stamp so well that we are most of the way. Enjoyed too your finishing off techniques and I will be giving that a go. This video was not too long and we can always stop and come beck to it if we have other things to do. Thanks for this😊
Hi Jill, I've watched this video three times already - start to finish - love your teaching, love your card examples. Your videos are NEVER too long! This one is saved along with many others to reference again. So happy to see a notice of a new video pop into my inbox!
So many great techniques! I especially like the lifting off the color...what a difference it makes! They are all beautiful! My collection of Penny Black stamps is growing, so I will definitely be trying this. Thanks! ❤️
This video is your best ever! I absolutely love seeing more and hearing more about your process. And the info about your color selection is so helpful to painters like me, who are trying to learn better technique. Thank you so much. Please do more like this!
This is another great video! Very comprehensive. I’d love to see how you organize your crafting closet and what stamps you consider must haves too. I love the longer videos, thanks for sharing 😊
FANTASTIC video!! I'm very much a beginner, have never had a lesson, and a PB/JF wanna be. I learned so much and feel that I want to try your techniques. Thank you for sharing in such an organized and patient video your talents. They are greatly appreciated.
I always look forward to your videos and teachable moments. I do like the cards with the edger dies, this is a simple way to add so much interest to a card. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Thank you so much for this longer video! I loved it, it was not boring at all. I really like the longer videos where you show your techniques and card design ideas. It inspires me and I hope you do more longer videos like this one for the Christmas in July 2023 new releases. The second stamped image was my favorite. Have a great week Jill!
Thank you so much for this wonderful and informative video. I have learned a lot of techniques from your videos. It is appreciated. By the way your videos could never be too long.
Thank you Jill! These cards are most beautiful, I mentioned before I love the whole collection, but as I'm waiting to receive the rest, and Hollyhock is one of them, I will practice with Songbird and Warble which are my other 2 favorites.
First, thank you so much for the detailed video on great tips for water coloring! It is also a preferred medium of mine to use but I don't always get the results I want. I love coloring too but my hands get cranky, haha. I love birds and sunflowers so if I HAD to pick, those would be the ones. They are all beautiful works of art!
Jill, thank you so much for this video. Really appreciate seeing 'how tos'. And watercoloring is difficult for me, so as much detail as I can get is so helpful. Love Penny Black images, all of your cards are absolutely beautiful.
Jill Thank you so much for your tutorial. I love watching your different ways you use watercolors and Tombow markers. I have learned so much from your videos. I have always loved your style. I think my favorite one is the Hollyhocks and Geraniums. They are all beautiful cards so it's hard to pick.
Thank you for this watercoloring tutorial, Jill. Your talents are on full display! Love your card designs, color choices; all simple but elegant And many just plain cute! Will keep an eye out for more. Thank you again.
I love these kind of videos. It's so helpful to actually see the process, esp. when it's really not my forte. I actually believe I can do it after watching your videos! 😂🙃 Probably the hollyhocks are my fav, though all of the cards were so pretty. I'm always happy when I see you pull out the 'background noise' stamps. "Oh..I have that one!" ;) Great reminders to use my stash!! Thanks for all of your inspiration Jill.
Wow! Thanks so much for the info and especially for showing the cup and paper towel use. It was a part of watching other videos that I totally didn’t get. Just a beginner here.
Great video Jill!! Thank you for sharing how you watercolour. I'm excited to give it a try. Definitely the hollyhock cards are my favourites ... now I need to go buy that stamp. :) Loll xx
I have watched this video two times so far. I loved the bluebird with the pink flowers and the sunflowers and I already have those stamps. But I love the Hollyhocks so I may need that stamp. I love your coloring. Thanks for all the videos. And I love Penny Black.
love this tutorial, and all the cards, can't choose just one. I always learn something from your videos, appreciate your tips and watching them being applied during the actual painting as well. That paint brush looks fabulous, hope to purchase one of those. Just a small bit of background color can make such a difference, a good reminder to try that! Thank you for this video!
Thanks for this video; never such a thing as a video that is too long when we are learning from you! I have learned so much over the years watching you watercolor these stamps. My biggest issue is how you do the background coloring right up against the stamp and then wash it out to white……I cannot do that at all! It’s either too dark, or it runs into my finished stamp and makes a mess. My favorite is all of them! ❤
Thanks, Kimberly, for your kind words! The background coloring definitely takes me practice and patience- sometimes I just use an ink blending tool and foam pad instead. :)
Thanks for this video! It was vey helpful, and I am encouraged to pull out my unused Penny Black stamps and try water coloring again. Inspired by previous videos, I was excited to try, but was not successful at the level I felt was the quality of my usual card making. This video revisited some of my challenges…how to set up your workspace materials for success, what colors to use, what range of color to use, how much water quality to paint quantity, how does one lift a blob of paint, how wet or dry is the brush for what you want to achieve? Absolutely brilliant video and tutorials. I've emassed quite a large collection of Penny Black stamps, and I love them. You pass along so much useful information without it seeming like a chore to do. I also love how you finish the cards and think I need to do some more shopping - LOL.
I love that you showed us real time coloring. I needed the help as my cards never turn out as nicely as yours. Thanks so much for doing this. I appreciate any real time videos you have to share. Your cards are beautiful and creative.
Thank you so much for this.... it was perfect! I've been looking for more instruction on how to use watercolor with stamps and you did a wonderful job explaining and demonstrating! Thanks again.
I learned so much and want to try doing more watercolor, especially with the reinkers. You have given me the incentive to do it. I'm a sucker for the sunflower vase card but the pink flowers with the bird is a second choice. Thanks always for your great videos and making it look easy.
Thanks for doing this video. It was so helpful. I love to watercolor and your tips and tricks has been so helpful. And I absolutely love Penny Black stamps. I do love the hollyhocks, but all of them are outstanding and inspiring!!!!
I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Love those 5x7 cards.
Thanks so very much!

Thank you!!
I’m going to check into those edger sentiments. That looks really fascinating.
oooh! I love the edger sentiments!! :) Have fun!
Thanks for this video; never such a thing as a video that is too long when we are learning from you! I have learned so much over the years watching you watercolor these stamps. Thanks, Kimberly, for your kind words! The background coloring definitely takes me practice and patience- sometimes I just use an ink blending tool and foam pad instead. :)
I loved this video, love the first card you were painting on, but love the tall ombré flowers so gorgeous
Thank you, Karen!
What becomes standard practice for one with lots of experience is very valuable to one with little experience. Thank you, again!
Thank you, Louise, for your feedback! :)
Love this video as I am watching again. Thank you so much!
Thank you, Brenda!!
Absolutely brilliant video and tutorials. I've emassed quite a large collection of Penny Black stamps, and I love them. However, my painting still leaves a lot to be desired (I use distress and distress oxide pads). If my cards were half as lovely as yours, I'd be happy. You're a true artist Jill. 🌸♥️🇨🇦
You are too kind, thank you, Alison!
Fabulous video, so clearly explained and easily understood. Best I have seen. Makes watercolour painting seems "doable". Thanks so much.
Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback, Patricia! :)
