I have had 3 ERCP procedures done in the last 6 years. The last 2 involved the insertion of a stint in my bile duct. There is NO pain and you do NOT remember any thing. You get general anesthesia for this procedure and it is done in a hospital. Why people are saying there is pain etc with this procedure are so wrong. I had 2 very severe cases of pancreatitis when the decided to do my first ERCP procedure. The next 2 times they put in stints to open up my bile duct more. So if you need this procedure done, there is nothing to be scared of.....

+Joanne ODonnell 3 ERCP? You do not have a gallbladder? I already had 1 ERCP. There is no problem if you get more than one ERCP?

@koamerican10 there is some risk as with any surgical procedure - no such thing as a safe operation. However the risk of developing severe complications is around 4/1000. The number of patients who have died from this operation is significantly less than that. Therefore the benefits vastly outweighs the risks - although I have never heard of ERCP being used for investigating an enlarged liver.

good video! I am very nervous about the sedatives though! They didn't help me when I had an endoscopy done and I gagged a lot! They ended up using an anesthetic instead. I am waiting for my appointment, they said about 2 weeks. I have abnormalities in the bile duct and in the pancreatic duct. My stomach feels swollen and I've had pain for 3 months now. Can't wait until this is all behind me!

For anyone who's worried about the ERCP, it's a really easy procedure. If you've had an endoscopy it feels like that. For mine I was put under so half of the things they're saying about asking you to swallow and stuff I never had to go through. I woke up with a cleaned out bile duct and a slightly sore throat, overall it wasn't bad at all. Now, the gallbladder surgery I had days later (two days ago), now that one hurt..

ALL INVASIVE TESTS have risks, as do all surgeries. They also have a high level of success. Why not help the people on here facing such procedures to be confident and strong. Yes, the same drug that supposedly killed Michael Jackson. Been stunted as well. Had sphincter of Oddi disease too. Survived UC (colectomy, pouch, now troublesome J-pouch) and progressed to PSC.
