From a Mid-American tourist’s perspective, taking the Expo & this subway & back from Santa Monica & Hollywood certainly beats the all-day congestion one is just about GUARANTEED to experience on almost every freeway between North Hollywood, Downtown & LAX. The 101… 10… much less the dreaded 405. Best to park my car in a secure lot, walk & invest in an all-day pass (the latter if you intend to literally ride more than a couple times) as opposed to even thinking of driving around all day (and likely paying for every other parking spot everywhere I go). However, I quickly learned if nobody is in one of the train cars, there’s probably a good reason (it might reek of something awful). And like St. Louis or other major cities with a negative reputation, it’s best to keep a low profile for the most part. It’s 50/50 when you ride the Metro. Sometimes there’s people yelling, slouchers, awful stenches, and trash. And sometimes it’s empty of waste, quiet, and fast.
In my opinion, LA Metro stands as the preferred and more user-friendly option; however, the absence of policemen or security personnel stationed at the stations to verify passengers' tickets is a significant failure. This deficiency results in the presence of individuals with erratic behavior, accompanied by bulldogs, on the trains, which is regrettable. As for Metrolink, I do not hold a preference due to its operation of heavy trains and the frequent loud human-voice announcements. However, it should be noted that these trains offer ample space, and the passengers generally conduct themselves in an orderly manner. While LA Metro provides easier and more convenient access through its automated systems, the lack of law enforcement presence to checking passenger's tickets creates a loophole through which criminals can gain access to LA Metro trains.
Hear hear on this! My ride was fairly safe & no thrills. Thank goodness. I’m wondering with the number of metro employees & police if this is the new norm… I should make a metro link video 😊
@babetravelling Yes, it's the new norm. They've increased the security officers and transit ambassadors on Metro. It's improved tremendously in the last 6 months as you can tell from this video. It only got really bad from 2020-2022, the three worst years of Covid. During that time LA Metro decided not to enforce fares due to Covid so many more homeless started using it. That changed at the start of 2023. And a few months into 2023 they started the transi ambassadors program and a few months after that they started hiring more security officers. In June 2023 they opened the Regional Connector and they introduced a new capped fare pricing program that caps fares at $5 per day or $18 per week. Once you reach those limits, the rest of the rides are free. That's on buses, subways, and light rail lines. For students it's free, and for disabled people and seniors, it's half price. And even less on the weekends.

Curious to know how does normal sound? 🥰
Its so funy to hear how people are afraid of taking metro in LA, in Europe takes everyone this type of transport and not have such thoughts.
Oh yes, it’s so normal in Europe to take trains but US is not used to it. Truly different culture 🥰
But trains in china smells so bad all the time mostly subway, and light rail in Beijing.
It’s been awhile since I took the train in Beijing. When it’s packed, BO was awful 🤣 but when it’s not, I thought it’s pretty cool…
The metro is horrible
I’d rather take an Uber or Lyft.
it could be.... i agree.... but this ride was not bad at all. I'm surprised!
@@kevinnguyen8299But much more expensive.
It's great! Way better than other major international cities, because nobody uses it.
