This actually looks like a hook, whereas the kata version is a sweep, which makes me wonder why it's not called Yoko Harai.
Yeah, this is why for a long time I didn't make the connection between the tow variations. My understanding is the "gake" means to cover the action is a "hook", as with Kouchi Gake and Kosoto Gake.
