Holy, Belgrade looks awesome! I wasn't expecting that to be totally honest. --- In Polish "jeden" is one and "jedno" is... uh... "one". Damn, this'll be confusing. When you order one ticket ("bilet") you order "jeden bilet" because ticket is a "he" (duh). But when you order one apple ("jabłko") you order "jedno jabłko", because it's an "it". And when you want to buy one rose ("róża") you say "jedną różę", because it's a "she". It depends on the noun and since Serbian and Polish seem so similar I'd guess it's something along those lines as well.

For example ''jedno pivo'' (one beer) neutral gender, ''jedna rakija'' (one rakija) feminine gender, ''jedan sladoled'' (one icecream) masculine gender. There are also cases, which make things a lot more complicated. For example ''Koja je cena jednog piva?'' (What is the price of one beer?)
In Serbian when you heard people saying "једно" they meant it like one piece of pizza for example: "Једно парче пице". "Jедан" is just an ordinary number, but in Serbian you have 7 cases and 3 genders so you will find it being pronounced differently. Late clarification but its good to know lots of different stuff, have fun on your trips!
I was in Belgrade 2 year ago and what I remmember is that I was stunned how well almost everybody was speaking English, very often really good English, even some older people did, in contrary to Poland and Hungary (I am Polish living in Hungary). Jeden in Polish means one when we speak of masculine in nominativ (basic case), jedno is one when we mean neuter (neutral gramatic gender) in nominative (I guess same is in Serbian)
hubert1990s yes large majority of people here in serbia (and ex yu in general) speak english, unlike for example romania or hungary, where i have been several times and even younger generations had problem understanding me and couldnt even say basic stuff. That is mostly because you have english from the first grades of elementary (older generations are better with russian and german), and also on tv english is not dubbed to serbian, instead you have subtitles.
Im Serbian and i came to Germany, and this is embarassing, they are in fckin EU and large minority speaks English, they know few words but not to conversate, i mean cmoon
It's because Serbia have always been western oriented in its history. We have been more influenced by western languages and culture than eastern like the other countries you named.

'Jedno' and 'jeden/jedan' in Polish/Serbian refer to different genders (neutral and male respectively). All Slavic languages include declension to indicate number, case and/or gender. Actually, there are more less 25 ways of saying 'two people' in Polish, depending on who you refer to and what you wanna say :D

I love getting off the tourist path and exploring cities that most non citizens would ever visit. I spent a couple of days exploring Tuzla and Bijeljina in Bosnia. Fascinating to see these places without competing with hundreds of other tourists.
It's Bosnians who only call meat burek -burek. Here in Serbia we call all variants burek. It pisses them off and because of that we enjoy doing it even more.

ISTO to što Bosanci zovu Burek je u Turskoj "Kol böreği" i pravi se i sa sirom i sa spanaćem i sa krompirom i sa mesom. Tako da možda ni u Bosni nije Burek samo sa mesom a kamoli van iste.
I absolutely love these videos!! Im croatian so all of the different countries in that region of Europe speak very similar languages(including Serbia) so i find it hilarious watching other people try to learn the language. I have millions of places to recommend to you guys haha
In Serbia, if you don't meet or socialize with local people, it's like you have not been in Serbia. Greatest thing about Serbia are it's people. There are tons of other cool things but Serbians are one of a kind in the world.

I was in summer last year and my Serbian friends was showing me the city and i love it . Now soon i will visit for the next time with my girl friend then will cross to Bosnia as well spend some time in Sarajevo . Nice video man
We have Jedan, Jedna and Jedno (just speaking of nouns) It's like he she and it. Burek is he, so it's jedan burek. But "parce" (piece) is it, so it's jedno parce. Viljuska (fork) is she, so it's jedna viljuska.

Dude, we have a tourist tram with a tour guide in English that goes like regular number 2 tram. Start point is near a zoo in Kalemegdan park, and it's completely free of charge. It's 60 min ride, Friday at 20:00 and Saturday at 16:00. to bad you didn't know that, if you were in tourist information center in knez Mihailova street, they should've told you. Zdravo from Belgrade :)
I love how you have your Google set to Polish and when you were showing hungarian money, like two of the notes were Polish złoty (maybe that's why they wanted to give you less than you expected?) :D And "one" can be multiple words in Polish. The basic form is "jeden" (for masculine, like e.g. a ticket, or when you're just counting 1, 2, 3...), but "jedno" is for neuter (like beer), and "jedna" is for feminine (like coffee). It's probably very similar in Serbian :D And man, do I admire all of the shots, considering you took them all alone!

Damir Rekić its even the same dialect for most of the people (shtokavian). With this dialect most of Serbs and Croats speak and all of the bosnians and montenegrins, croats also have kajkavian and other dialects which are minority, Serbia has torlak and other minority dialects.

Tram no 2 is just a regular tram line like any other in Belgrade and it goes during day hahah :) The only thing is that it does a full circle in the central part of town. During winter it is full of homeless people and the whole tram smells just terrible, so people avoid it.. The video is nice, it is great presentation of our city! :D

First of all I want to tell you that you are right, you heard "jedno" because in Serbian lang. we can say for something "jedno". for example: question: can I get pizza slices? serbian: mogu li dobiti parce pice? answer: how many? serbian: koliko? answer2: one slice serbian: jedno parce so in our grammar we have many variations of one word, depends of the time and context. my dear friend, what you ate is not a burek. burek is shaped like a circle and cut in 4 pieces (triangles), similar to pizza. what you got there is what we call a pie. its almost the same in taste but still, theres a difference
10:25 you hear people saying because we have noun genders and we have three of them, like in Latin. So we have the masculine, feminine and neuter (we call it middle ) genders. Masculine : one boy - jedan dečak Feminine : one girl - jedna devojčica Neuter : one child - jedno dete Hope that helps :)

Dobrodošao u Beograd! :) So here's the thing with jedan, jedno... : jedan = one (masculine singular), e.g. jedan muškarac - one man jedna = one (feminine singular). e.g. jedna žena - one woman jedno = one (neuter singular), e.g. jedno dete - one child (or a more useful phrase perhaps :) - jedno pivo - one beer) Figuring out gender of a noun is one of the main difficulties of learning Slavic languages. But don't worry! Even if you mix up the gender, people should understand you. There is also some kind of rule of thumb that works for most of the nouns (of course there are exceptions but majority of nouns works like this): If a noun in its singular form ends with a consonant, it is usually masculine, if it ends in its singular form with -a, it is usually feminine, if it ends with -o or -e, it is usually neuter (exceptions to this in Serbian are 'auto' - car or 'video' which are masculine). Gender is important in Slavic languages because it determines shape of the related adjective, noun and verb. For example: Jedna lepa žena je šetala ulicom. One nice lady walked down the street. Jedan lep muškarac je šetao ulicom. One nice man walked down the street. Jedno malo dete je šetalo ulicom. One small child walked down the street. To make it even more interesting, adjectives and nouns change further based on a case (nominative, genitive, accusative, etc.) and number (singular, plural). Just for fun, this is the complete declension of jedan/a/o en.wiktionary.org/wiki/jedan ;) But as I said, don't worry too much about it and enjoy yourself! :)

I am from Belgrade. Nice vid man. I hope you had a good time. We appreciate a good word. That destroyed bulding was part of Ministry of Defense back in a days when it was bombed by Nato and Usa forces. At first it wasn't rebuilt because our economy was destroyed in that attack, and after awhile, goverment decided to leave it as a proof that civil area of Belgrade was bombed. Ofcourse, building was empty. Sorry for that camera lense.
At the beginning when you say it's Danube, with all the clubs and night life, no it's not, it's river Sava... It connects with Danube just a little further down the stream.
You should take short 2-3 days trip to Novi Sad(Serbia) and nice smaller city of Osijek (you have few direct bus lines every day from Belgrade, around 25Eur) , eastern part of Croatia, totally different from seaside part of Croatia where you've been. Cheers

Dude, we have a tourist tram with a tour guide in English that goes like regular number 2 tram. Start point is near a zoo in Kalemegdan park, and it's completely free of charge. It's 60 min ride, Friday at 20:00 and Saturday at 16:00. to bad you didn't know that, if you were in tourist information center in knez Mihailova street, they should've told you. Zdravo from Belgrade :)

I love how you have your Google set to Polish and when you were showing hungarian money, like two of the notes were Polish złoty (maybe that's why they wanted to give you less than you expected?) :D
And "one" can be multiple words in Polish. The basic form is "jeden" (for masculine, like e.g. a ticket, or when you're just counting 1, 2, 3...), but "jedno" is for neuter (like beer), and "jedna" is for feminine (like coffee). It's probably very similar in Serbian :D

Damir Rekić its even the same dialect for most of the people (shtokavian). With this dialect most of Serbs and Croats speak and all of the bosnians and montenegrins, croats also have kajkavian and other dialects which are minority, Serbia has torlak and other minority dialects.

Tram no 2 is just a regular tram line like any other in Belgrade and it goes during day hahah :)
The only thing is that it does a full circle in the central part of town. During winter it is full of homeless people and the whole tram smells just terrible, so people avoid it..

First of all I want to tell you that you are right, you heard "jedno" because in Serbian lang. we can say for something "jedno". for example:
question: can I get pizza slices?
serbian: mogu li dobiti parce pice?
answer: how many?
serbian: koliko?
answer2: one slice
serbian: jedno parce
so in our grammar we have many variations of one word, depends of the time and context.
Second, please ask me some question and I will be more than happy to answer you, maybe you can tell me what you like or something like that and I can tell you were to go or what to do ;)

my dear friend, what you ate is not a burek. burek is shaped like a circle and cut in 4 pieces (triangles), similar to pizza. what you got there is what we call a pie. its almost the same in taste but still, theres a difference
10:25 you hear people saying because we have noun genders and we have three of them, like in Latin. So we have the masculine, feminine and neuter (we call it middle ) genders. Masculine : one boy - jedan dečak
Feminine : one girl - jedna devojčica
Neuter : one child - jedno dete

jedan = one (masculine singular), e.g. jedan muškarac - one man
jedna = one (feminine singular). e.g. jedna žena - one woman
jedno = one (neuter singular), e.g. jedno dete - one child (or a more useful phrase perhaps :) - jedno pivo - one beer)
Figuring out gender of a noun is one of the main difficulties of learning Slavic languages. But don't worry! Even if you mix up the gender, people should understand you. There is also some kind of rule of thumb that works for most of the nouns (of course there are exceptions but majority of nouns works like this): If a noun in its singular form ends with a consonant, it is usually masculine, if it ends in its singular form with -a, it is usually feminine, if it ends with -o or -e, it is usually neuter (exceptions to this in Serbian are 'auto' - car or 'video' which are masculine).
Gender is important in Slavic languages because it determines shape of the related adjective, noun and verb. For example:
Jedna lepa žena je šetala ulicom. One nice lady walked down the street.
Jedan lep muškarac je šetao ulicom. One nice man walked down the street.
Jedno malo dete je šetalo ulicom. One small child walked down the street.
To make it even more interesting, adjectives and nouns change further based on a case (nominative, genitive, accusative, etc.) and number (singular, plural). Just for fun, this is the complete declension of jedan/a/o en.wiktionary.org/wiki/jedan ;)

I am from Belgrade. Nice vid man. I hope you had a good time. We appreciate a good word. That destroyed bulding was part of Ministry of Defense back in a days when it was bombed by Nato and Usa forces. At first it wasn't rebuilt because our economy was destroyed in that attack, and after awhile, goverment decided to leave it as a proof that civil area of Belgrade was bombed. Ofcourse, building was empty. Sorry for that camera lense.

At the beginning when you say it's Danube, with all the clubs and night life, no it's not, it's river Sava... It connects with Danube just a little further down the stream.
You should take short 2-3 days trip to Novi Sad(Serbia) and nice smaller city of Osijek (you have few direct bus lines every day from Belgrade, around 25Eur) , eastern part of Croatia, totally different from seaside part of Croatia where you've been. Cheers

Cyrillic is version od Greek alphabet, adapted to latin letters. In US is also common used - Alpha, Beta, Gama , Delta....
