very entertaining analysis! One thing I especially liked when exploring the single-player levels of Serious Sam Forever was the reimagining aspect of adding new visuals and branching paths. There was almost this "dreamlike" quality to them, going even further with the abstract art style of the first game (I think the Dunes level was a huge standout for that). 14:04 I asked him like three months ago and he told me he just put enemies with the Serious Editor, no templates or triggers, just filled the map so the vid wasn't boring.
Before the dual wield patch you could actually switch from uzis to colts when firing and with some luck you'll end up with an uzi in one hand and a colt in the other. I used to find this a funny trick to do in coop games when I was a kid. I guess this can be considered a proof to scrapped dual wield mechanic? After the swap was done, you would fire the right weapon with rmb and the left weapon with left button. I was never successful in doing this with other weapons however.

Currently i play official 2021 update with both max enemy multiplier and serious difficulty it the true serious Sam 2 experience, often i get lag because tons of enemy and shooting while hiding or out of reach by the enemy
Oh wow, Serious Sam 2. Now that's some sweet memory right there. I got the game with a graphics card and I remember I spent one Saturday playing the campaign in co-op all the way through. Also, Insamnity 2 was the first mod that I tried out for this game.
5:20 I know that you can get previous versions of Serious Sam 2 (2.070 and 2.080) by going to the Betas tab of the game's properties on Steam, so I think it's not necessary to install an old version from a disc and then patch it to play mods (unless these mods are reeeeally old).
These mod throwbacks are always interesting to watch for me. Great work, mate! Was wondering what you thought of the 2.090/1 update as well, so this was a double whammy.
I'll just say Sam 2 with dual wielding is fine, especially if you play on the hardest difficulty. You still have to effectively manage ammo and weapon combos to be most effective. So I say, go for it if you own the steam version of Sam 2!
Honestly, I think adding sprinting to Serious Sam 2 might save the game for me. I didn't even know it was an option and I played thru the game in full awhile ago, hating how it gimped player speed so massively. Gonna have to give Serious Sam 2 another shot.
I hate the default slow speed classic sam games have by default, so ss2's sprint is a welcome addition Imho 4/sm got it right, having a sprint with the ability to also shoot while running

Maybe compared to other old school shooters, but it's more than serviceable as the enemies' speed and attacks are telegraphed/designed around that speed. Serious Sam 2 just gimps player movement for no reason despite enemies moving at largely the same pace as the classics, to the point where it's a frustrating slog without an update that only came around 15 years after it was released. That's a pretty glaring issue that the classics don't suffer from.

When you talked about InSamnity and discussed how it was boring and an endless slaughterfest...I realized just how little I really 'get' the appeal of Serious Sam as a series. I do love a lot of FPS games, but the Serious Sam games always looked like mindless, boring killing as a whole...and so, InSamnity just looks like more of the same. I wish I understood the difference a little bit better.

I disagree with the update, it definitely breaks the difficulty of the game, running is great but it trivializes enemies running towards you, the new uzi run out much faster than planned and you end up running out of ammo in areas that are meant for that you use it and dude having double rocket launchers is very OP.

ah dual wielding is implemented in the base game, you just need to activate it when starting a new campaing in the options
