    I have been dancing ballroom for 5 years. Your videos on posture and hold excercises are excellent; there is very little on the internet explaining these things which are so important. I shall learn much from you.

    I am hooked on Egils! :)
    Please Keep these exercise videos coming! Looking forward to Jive and Cha Cha (especially hip rotation exercises) - can't wait!
    Any basic rules you can teach on arm styling (new video also), that we can use to develop our arm styling for Latin dances?

    I also lay on a physio roller along my spine. It stretched the muscles in my upper chest and made it easier to keep my shoulders back and down.

      +Peter Beyer I believe exercises with physiotherapy rollers are good ones. Thanks for sharing.

    I saw another video for LA excercises where a guy was sitting on a chair and stretching his torso while his hips were immobile. I did the same excercises and was sore for a week!

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter Beyer thanks for comment. Any stretcing exercise should be done carefully at first better to do less amount then overdue. Hope your torso now recovered well.

    Thank you dear Egils for the detailed information. As a new 2 year old ballroom student I learned a lot from your videos , wish I live closer to take lessons from you. I still struggle with my shoulder frame and tango head movement, do you have any advice for me. thanks

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks nada for appreciating my dance videos. It is difficult to tell on what exactly you shoud focus to develop better shoulder position and head movement withot seeing your dance movement. But generally do shoulder blade exercises with arms down, then do then with arms up, and then control shoulders when you transfer weight from foot to foot / or when dancing basic steps. For head movement in Tango do particular movement with count without steps slowly, then with steps and slowly, then with steps and in normal speed, then to music. Hope it helps!

    I am a female that is a little taller than my partner and I have a short body and long legs. How can I adjust my frame and leg movement to accommodate the difference between us? Thank you so much! Your videos are very informative.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ballroom Beauty, thanks for question. I would suggest two guidelines. First you try to match your shoulder height (you can measure it standing side by side). This you do by bending knees in different degree. Second you check if it's possible to move together in contact with this knee bending degrees in starting position. If it's not you adjust knees and sacrifice shoulder height. Hope it helps!

    This is an excellent material. Let me ask a question. When a man starts moving of natural turn or closed change, he some time use left leg forward as a preparatory action; on the other hand, you do not use that at all. How do I understand this difference? I think the preparatory action is not recommended because man's leading is not well established. Only spine and arm are source of leading; leg action is secondary or dependent factor. Am I right?

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Shigeru Ashida for interesting question. Preparatory step with left foot forward for Man is good way to start Natural Figure. I usually do more simple way of preparing body without extra step. In preparation (with or without step) we use rotation to left and then start rotation to right into Natural Figure.
      When we think about leading of course Lady feels Man's leading mostly from Man's spine, body center (right front ribs) and arms and hands. But I would argue that action starts from our feet. There for sure are more complicated theories - like: movements starts ir upper part of body then goes down into feet and to the floor and then energy returns from fee again upwards. Hope it helps.

    Great excersises :) Do you have an advice on how to relax upper body in Waltz and maintain correct posture and frame? My dance partner can feel the tension in my upper body, and so can I.

    • @EgilsSmagris
      @EgilsSmagris  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alexis, thanks for your question. Idea is to use correct muscles which means inner body muscles. Then outer muscles is possible to relax. Try to do exercises slowly and with minimal outer tension. As you change core muscles to maintain vertical posture, you will achieve possibility to relax other (outside) muscles. Hope it helps
