NGL, I was very disappointed when I first saw the release. Wanting a gx9 successor, I mentioned the things I disliked about it in the comments but obviously not attacking the reviewers. 2 days later, I find myself absolutely loving it and 100% plan on picking one up. I shoot a lot of band/ artist / studio bts sessions and the amount of times I need a quality image or video for the clients to post ASAP, is exactly why the S9 is going to make it's way into my arsenal. Also the recording limits are perfectly fine for music videos so this will be a great C cam to my S1 and S5iix. My channel is based on metal music production, and it's going to be the camera I suggest to everyone in my niche to get for performance videos, and to make photography and video fun and enjoyable. Great video
Plus Lumix's synchro scan is amazing for flickering lights. The brand thinks of everything. If this camera is too expensive in anyone's eyes, just wait till it goes on sale. Also Lumix is the best company for firmware updates and every Thursday Sean does a livestream where you can get direct answer about issues you're having from the brand. I'm personally unaware of any other company doing that

@@BrendonKPadjasek The S9 was not the camera that was planned [for this event]
This was not supposed to be the camera we should see in Japan
Look at the people who got invited, who are they?

Then look at what kind of camera this is? Who is is serving?
Look at the marketing Panasonic made on this camera? Does it match the people who got invited?

Perfect B Cam for my S5iix and iPhone 15 Pro replacement for better quality Reels/Shorts, using my existing L Mount lenses. This is a cheaper ZVE1, with newer features, better IBIS and very clear expectations set on recording limits. My wife will also use this, but finds S5iix too heavy and intimidating to use.

My only issue with the S9 is that the open gate is mentioned a lot, but it's not that useful for me as it can't be shot in 50 or 100 FPS. I shoot a lot of photo and video in the hospitality industry so slowmo around products is essential. Other than that I'm cool with the 'drawnacks' with my own workflow.
Where it wins is size, often I want to be less conspicuous when working, plus its stabilisation 🔥.
Its main problem is its price in the current market, but I expect that to adjust in the near future. I do need s second camera to my A7R5, and a S9 at maybe £1000 and £450 for a Sigma 45mm would be fine for me.

Those commenters are the people they convinced to buy Sony and are hurt because their influencers are switching or liking another brand. They forgot that the GH4 was everyone's camera before Sony started sending youtubers on trips. They switched because the AF was nice, low light was nice. But then Panasonic became great again.

The camera I've been hoping for is a modern compact Lumix with a small fixed zoom lens and weather sealing. Kind of like the Sony RX100 series. The ultimate content creator camera! With that said, this camera is still cool and if they slap on a discount on this, I'm sooo getting it.

I really enjoy to look of your content and you're a charming presenter. I wanna do my small part to help this channel grow so I can keep enjoying it. Lots of the Japan early look videos mentioned the 15 minute 4K30 clip limit cited cooling limitations in the compact body. That made sense and was plausible. Now that they have the camera at home for extended periods, they're finding and posting that it's not necessarily true. I've seen 2 now testing back to back 15 minute recordings and it seems to get around 1hr to 1h15m before overheating.
I think this highlights the problem for reviewers and consumers in the rush to release press events. What was cited as a makes sense limitation due to a compact build now looks to be unnecessarily limited by Panasonic. They probably could have gone with 45 minutes instead of 15. Hopefully Panasonic give the user more control of this in a firmware update (or do they think they are protecting S5 II sales?).

That’s been a frustration I’ve had with some companies who want to send me products, the stipulate that the video has to be out within 2 weeks of me receiving the product, which there’s no way to really know enough in that time, especially if the product will hold up overtime. So I just ghost those types of requests lol

  • @jtchalatsis

I really really don't get all the drama around a *camera*. I was really interested in picking a Lumix s9 up because I don't like carrying my s5ii or s5 rigs when travelling and I sold my Fujifilm because I wanted to stay in one ecosystem. So Lumix releases the perfect camera for me (and for a bunch of other s5ii users from what I see in the comments) and then all I can see online is how I'm probably an idiot for liking this camera, how the missing EVF should eliminate this camera as an option, the electronic shutter will ruin my shots etc etc.
It's just another camera out there. You like it? Cool. You hate it? Also cool. Just let me do my own thing now, and mind your own business. Why are people so obsessed with other people's choices?

S5ii owner here... I gotta be honest, this camera has my eye a little bit. One, I'm already on the L-mount system, already have 3 lenses....this could be a good backup to have in the kit. But what REALLY has my interest is, the LUT system of the S9. In my S5ii, I can only save 10 LUTS in there.. But it seems like the S9 via the new Lumix app, you can save up to 39 luts ?! I'm wondering / hoping if all the capabilities the S9 has / the app...the S5ii will get ? If so, then absolutely no need to get this I dont think. It does have my interest tho.

Honestly, I think the target audience for this camera are people who have never once watched a TH-cam camera review video. It looks fun to use but not something I would buy. Using "crippled" or "joke" for it is simply because it doesn't fulfill the needs of a higher end user. A casual user might find equal value in the simple design. In the end, if the camera sells than it will have been a good idea. Time will tell.

I'm not sure it's really crippled for a lot of users. I own a A7R5 and hardly ever use the EVF, I also only shoot small clips plus any interviews I've done have never reached 20 mins max. Yes it's not the camera for a long speech I get that, but I'm sure most people aren't doing that. The headphone jack can be got around to an extent with a headphone out on your mic, plus a bit of experience with your settings. Its just the price that's wrong, and I'm sure that will adjust.
As a gimbal camera it's fantastic, as a second camera on the road it's great, in areas where big cameras might get noticed again a really good camera

Currently you can get a new S5ii on offer for only £1,699 with 2 good lenses (20-60mm f3.5 and the 50mm 1.8) compaired to the S9 at £1,499 with the pancake 26mm manual fixed f8 lens.
I own a S5ii and a Sony A6000, and use my S5ii for detailed work and filming but still use the A6000 for Street and travel when i want to use something out of sight.
All cameras have place for someone and the S9 will most likley sell quite well, but I really still think i'd still stick with a much smaller camera for street and travel with an Apsc or micro 4/3 and use the bigger S5ii for everything else.
It would of helpped if lumix had waited untill they were able to show off the 'LUMIX S 18-40mm F4.5-6.3 Lens' at the same time as the S9 japan launch (as this lens has autofocus and a changeable aperture while the pancake 26mm does not and was reguarded as a bit of a joke).

I have not seen a single review of the camera that has just been a heap of praise without mentioning any quirks or drawbacks. It's all the spec sheet warriors that come expecting a strongly negative review that leave the horrible comments having left disappointed that people actually had fun using a fun oriented camera.
Kasey from Camera Conspiracies (who does extremely balanced reviews TBF) put a video about the S9 like he does for almost every new camera launch, bashing the on paper specs. He is the same guy that had a lot of fun with the Nikon Z30, which is a significantly worse camera than the S9.

This camera is for specific purposes not an update or the best compact full frame, Sigma FP is already proven on this, how much people love it and I own one. Since I had this now I see Panasonic S9 is an update due to robust stabilisation thus reducing the need for a tripod or gimbal during my overseas trip. Those who have been in the photography field values each camera for it certain niche activities, like I enjoyed having Ricoh GR, likewise I had Sony A7r, still got Canon 1D iii and iv and they are good in their own way, but being in the Panasonic environment for almost seven years I found photography is more enjoyable in terms of its quality and video it produces so advanced. I found it is amateurish some of the videos showing bashing the camera and targeting who were presenting their verdict. In fact most of the videos were balanced and they understood the market where S9 will be valued, no wonder Japanese consumers are becoming more in alignment with such concept.

Great take on this. Even after all you’ve said, some say they don’t like the hyper positive reviews.
If a Reviewer really likes a Camera should they go out of their way to find negative feedback to make some people happy. Here’s the Beauty to all this, there are plenty of Negative mostly Reviewers that look for everything wrong, if that review gives you piece of mind, follow that one and unsubscribe to the others you don’t like.
Staying subscribed only so you can go into the comments to trash a review for a product you clearly are not going to buy is petty 😂. Grow up, no one is making you upset you are making yourself upset simply because you want to be in conflict.
This video is such a great example of remembering you look at a review because we are nosy but the decision to buy is all on you, not a reviewer.

Certainly not for full-rate work, but to rapid prototype looks, or for BTS, or pro bono work where 1080 and minimal color work in post is the goal, etc. Loads of reasons to have the S9 around as a light carry option, especially with open gate flexibility and an excellent IBI, rapid fire social media is easy.

The thing that stood out to me was that most of the reviews were exactly the same. It seemed like most had a premade script, made a few tweaks and uploaded. I think many people noticed that, and it did not feel genuine. As for the camera, don’t know yet, needs real world use before we know what it’s like.

I agree with some of what you said, but I'm tired of the fake and ultra favorable reviews of second-rate products. Most Tubers care more about maintaining a good relationship with brands instead of offering unbiased/honest opinions or reviews on products. I realized, after watching a video from a creator who does not take sponsorships, just how many shills and phonies there are on this platform. I refuse to give watch time to "creators" who are morally bereft and refuse to make meaningful/useful content. I am also no lomger interested in watching glorified commercials for brands via youtubers. I fully support channels that make meaningful and helpful content, but a lot of the camera bros on this platform are absolutely NOT providing good quality content, no matter how high the production value is. A commercial is still a commercial even if the person shilling the product is a youtuber.

One thing I find interesting is the amount of people calling it a bad product, if a 6K, open gate, full frame, quick upload system, built in lut/edits, ibis, 10 bit, all in a tiny body camera for $1500 existed just a couple of years ago people would be losing their minds. I think we are getting spoilt for choice lol. Not that it’s a perfect camera, it clearly has its limitations with record times etc. but still impressive IMO. And personally I think it’s best to withhold strong opinions about people on TH-cam for people that I personally know. It’s easy to judge and assume someone is a “shill” or “bias” from an outside perspective. But not having used the camera, and not knowing the persons character. Best not to make assumptions in my book

Are reviews these days more favorable to products? Maybe, if it is I would say that is in part to how level the playing field is becoming in the camera space. You can take a good photo with just about anything these days, what is a photo camera going to do? Add more megapixels? Add more frames per second? What about video? An extra half of a stop of dynamic range? A huge Hollywood film was made using an FX3, like where can we possibly go after that? I've been in photography long enough to live through genuinely bad lenses being released to the public. But now there's almost nothing that can be said about a new lens that hasn't been said a thousand times. Manufacturing and tech have gotten so good that lenses are near perfect at this point. Even "cheap" lens brands are releasing incredible lenses and you might be able to say oh look the corners are slightly less sharp but oh wait this lens is $150 and it's nearest competition is $500. I wouldn't automatically assume someone is a shill or a sellout, maybe just maybe, the product is actually good unless you get reallllly nitpicky about certain details.

Define “second rate”. Seems like the S9 packs a pretty good punch for a compact interchangeable lens camera. In many ways, nothing compares to it.

When you review on TH-cam you can’t say what is profitable for you or what company pleases you , when I want to buy a thing and watch TH-cam reviewers and all of them say it’s marvelous and greatest thing ever made and I buying it and using it there is big flaw and great disappointment because those reputable TH-camr didn’t mention that big flaw. This is great 750$ camera not 1500$,put any l mount lens and it will be a joke and that f8 is a joke too,I like lumix and appreciate what they do, but they don’t need to pay or to please TH-camr to pimping their products.

I’d recommend going and trying to produce a video testing a product as well as he does. His channel clearly isn’t about creative uses for cameras, but about testing the limitations of the camera, which he does better than anyone in my opinion. As someone who has tried to make videos like that and realized just how much more work that is to do… i have nothing but respect for it. Takes a ton of work.

And no worries, have a great day. The point of this video was to tell people to try being nice, not to rage on them unnecessarily without knowing them as a person. If that upsets you, then please don’t feel the need to watch the videos.
