- BACH SILOTI Andante from Violin Sonata no 2 by concert pianist Stéphanie ELBAZ
This beautiful Andante originates from the 2nd Sonata BWV 1003 for solo violin, which was composed by Johan Sebastian Bach around 1720. At that time, he was an employee at Prince Leopold’ Court in Cöthen and essentially focused on composing instrumental music. This Andante was later transcribed for solo piano by Alexander Siloti, who was Rachmaninov’s first cousin and has revealed to be one of the most skilled and productive in the art of transcription. As a matter of fact, he wrote more than 200 arrangements of this kind, as well as orchestral editions of pieces from Bach, Beethoven, Liszt, Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi.

I just listened to the posting of your new performance of Bach. Your performance is transcendent. I was immediately captivated. I have yet to find the words to how I feel. I have never been in this place before. I have experienced rapture by your performances but this is outside my experience of musicality.
The notes you played...I feel inside of me like we were reciting an unknown language, your feeling of musical expression as each note fell in a delicate, precise manner that followed the syntax of love and beauty in my heart. I felt we were perfectly communicating in the tonal expressions of each note. Each note was a love sonnet in my heart. I am enraptured in tears and trembling, exposed. You know the secret relationship of my heart in the sounds of your piano keys. You know my secrets and you beautified me entirely radiating from my heart. I really believe in you, your talent, your finesse. I have so much more to say, I don’t have the words, I am just flooded with feelings. I am your perfect effect.

The sunlight shining through the windows of the church and crossing each other is just amazing and heavenly. A very special choice on the tempo which sounds almost like a largo rather than andante. But it’s a very contemplative rendition with deep focus throughout the whole performance Bravo! Where is this beautiful venue by the way?

Je suis tombé dessus en cherchant des versions au piano de la sonate pour violon n°2. Ca n'est pas la même gamme que la version violon mais cela sonne particulièrement bien. Pour avoir testé le début en transposant la version de Siloti dans la gamme d'origine, je trouve la version de Siloti plus belle au piano.
Très joliment joué en tout cas, je vais apprendre à la jouer, en espérant pouvoir la jouer aussi bien que vous.

Merci pour votre message qui est très intéressant. Il est vrai que l'ornementation était la partie totalement libre et improvisée de l'époque baroque et de ce fait ça peut varier d'un interprète à un autre mais surtout selon les envies du moment. Il m' est d'ailleurs arrivé d'avoir envie d'un rendu épurer et d'ornementer très peu, d'autres fois plus ...
