- Shortly after gallbladder removal, Keith started getting stomach pain. His wife encouraged him to go to the ER where he got a CT scan that revealed a mass in his colon. After removing the mass and some lymph nodes, a biopsy showed Keith had stage 4 colon cancer.
As a husband and a father of two boys, Keith discusses the impact his diagnosis has had on his outlook and life and how he stopped working to prioritize time spent with his sons.
Now on his third line of treatment, Keith discusses cancer support groups, chemotherapy, treatment side effects, mental health, how he is considering a double lung transplant, the importance of being a patient advocate, and his advice for others on their own cancer journeys.

My mother had colorectal cancer stage 2 grade 2, she (52) had some "haemorhoidal" bleeding for 2-3 yrs which she described as being able to feel when they were filling up and eventually popped resulting in text book haemorhoid blood in stool, i dont think people are usually able to feel their haemorhoids filling up. We only started suspecting the worst when we did a blood lab and it said that red blood cells and haemoglobin were low, she had a colonoscopy and we found a big fragile mass at only 24cm from colonoscope entry. Two weeks later she had a laparoscopic colectomy which resected only 15cm of colon (and took out the local lymph nodes for good measure) and after a week in the hospital she was discharged for recuperation at home. We could do this because we reacted fast and the x-ray, CT, and MRI finds were clean of metastasis, also because of the great doctors, medical staff and equipment we had in our hospital.
The important part is that cancer is no longer a death sentence, it is a treatable disease which you can get rid of more and more easily with the advancements in medicine. Its vital to not lose your cool, to pick youself up and seek treatment as soon as possible.

Just curious when you started your 2nd line because your Signatera went back to positive what was your highest score? And did the 2nd line start taking it back down
Colon Cancer. Fatigue and breathlessness. Blood tests showed low iron anaemia. Colonoscopy showed a cancerous polyp. Early stage. Successful surgery.
@yioulizinga4137 I'm wondering about that, too. I think they did an ultrasound sound on my abdomen, 2019, when I had my gall bladder removed. But my cancerous polyp in my colon in early 2024 was only the size if a half a pea.
I just want people to think about this... what if you aren't married or in a relationship and you have no kids...just try to imagine going through this kind of thing all alone. Sometimes, I just get upset that people are so afraid to die and not see their kids get older or leave their partners, and no one realizes that their are many who have to do everything all alone.
As someone who is single and no kids in my 40’s I wouldn’t do any cancer treatment unless a surgery would be curative. I’d not do chemo or radiation because I couldn’t support myself financially and/or emotionally through that. If my quality of life was going to be gone - I’d not even try. Palliative and hospice only.

I have watched many Colon Cancer stories of women and I am shocked to see the difference in care between men and women in our health care industry. Women are so much more likely to have their pain and symptoms dismissed for long lengths of time with no answers until they finally get a diagnosis months or sometimes a full YEAR later after persisting and seeing multiple doctors! This man walked in and was offered a CT right away had some answers the VERY SAME visit!!! We need to stop gaslighting women that their pain is not valid or not to be believed! That being said, I wish this gentleman healing and peace.

I am one of those women. Going on 3 1/2 years now. Sick and tired of being dismissed and ignored or blamed.
I have five family members who either died or are dying from colon cancer relatively young. I expect to be next.

My mom had colon cancer , she was very uncomfortable Had a colonoscopy they found a mass and had short time ( maybe week or two kinda a blur). She had a tumor about the size of a tennis ball ,had about 12 inches of her colon removed . Luckily it was contained within her colon , I been told you get it trouble when it go beyond the colon and spreads. I think that’s true of all cancer . She lived 10 more years and died of something not related . I wish the best for you !

So, here’s a man who goes into emergency with abdominal pain and they take him seriously right away. Cat scan, diagnosis, boom. Have you watched the testimonies from women who can go YEARS and doctors don’t take them seriously? They’re told it’s your diet, and numerous other ridiculous things. I have been experiencing relentless abdominal pain for weeks. Guess what? I went to my doctor and she told me is was probably due to my diet 🤬 I am going to make an appt with a gastroenterologist and I’m not accepting them being cavalier with my life! I wish this man all good things and hope he goes totally into remission 🙏🏻

I think it they were quick to do a scan because he'd recently had his gall bladder removed, just my thoughts.
But on the whole it's very rare to get scanned with only stomach pains it's terrible
Almost the same with young people, im 23 years old and nobody takes me seriously, not even my family. Im almost one year with constant abdominal pain and bloated all the time, lost more than 20 pounds since that and every damn gastroenterologist told me that its was due to academic stress, diet, depression &/or anxiety, etc which is nuts, I had to leave college bcs it was impossible for me to study with this pain driving me mad all the time and I've never been through depression or any menthal illness, honestly I dont know how long I will be able to endure this.
We are on the same ship me friend. I am in 4th stage colon cancer. Diagnosed in 8/21. Never give up and belive!!

I don't think enough men share their stories enough, so thank you. My husband avoids the doctors too. He'll be 41 the end of this month too. But he has had bloody stools for some time now. I told him I will book his doctor appointment for him and attend with him if he needs my support to actually walk through the door. We met in the Army. Been married 12+ years with 7 beautiful, amazing children (1 in heaven). We just had our first boy this August and I named our son after him. I want my husband to be here to raise him. I love my husband and don't think I could live without him. Praying he is in the clear but it doesn't hurt to check either.
Get him checked out, I had blood in my stool for two months but it was just a hemmroid according to the colonoscopy
Shirley here, we sound like we are married to the same man. My husband won't go for his check ups he say I don't want to catch covid that's his excuse. He's fine and older then your husband but I don't think I could live without him either I love him so.
My cousin was diagnosed with colon cancer at 32. It then went to stage 4. He lived life to the fullest. Keep fighting its worth the fight.

Happy you are doing well. You are lucky to be alive, because some of us had to fight like hell to even get to see a doctor during covid. My emergency surgery was delayed by five , count them five months because thanksgiving and Christmas and covid. three years later , I am still angry, and I will probably carry that anger to the end. You did a great job of explaining the system, and how to navigate, and advocate.

My son had his colon cancer cut out in may of this year, last Thursday we found out it is now in his liver. We are just learning about this process. But I understand the frustration. Thanksgiving is this week and we have to wait for December 7th for the biopsy (again) and the port for his chemotherapy. We did not have to wait as long as you had to. But waiting’s just feeding our fears. I leave you with a prayer for good health in the future’
@@LissaOntheGoReplying on this a month later, but when colon cancer is in the liver, it's often possible to remove a part (where the disease is located) of the liver, the liver grows back out again. Of course it depends on the location, where the major veins are going and such. Your son should be offered that if it's possible, in case you did not now or are told so by the doctors.

I was Stage 1 CRC and went Stage 4 with an isolated liver met. After it was cut out pathology reveled it was fully encapsulated with fibrotic stroma. Oncologist said chemo in my situation is actually more detrimental. said he's unsure how my biology stopped a full blown metastasis. and although it can still happen i'm one of the very few percentage that does not need chemo as a first line defense rather local therapy like surgery was able to get rid of it. I've been clean 1 year so far. People have asked "how?" and all I can tell them is it's just dumb luck.

Same thing happened to my Mom. Colon cancer at 63. Had surgery and thankfully it was contained. No chemo was needed and she lived 22 years more with no evidence of disease. Her initial symptom was fatigue and anemia.
Thank you so much for posting this. I thought one had to have many or all the symptoms to be sure. I too had a cholecystectomy in Dec last year and have recently been getting more and more intense gallbladder-like pain, even though I had it removed in December. Here in England I had a FIT test recently which gave a reading of 168 for possible colorectal cancer. I was told a normal reading is under 10 and an internet search shows a score of 100 and above puts me in the ‘high risk’ of cancer. I was getting small amounts of bleeding, which is why a FIT test was done. Currently waiting for my Doctor to get back to me with a colonoscopy appointment. I’m not afraid of death as I have total faith and trust in God, who is with me all the time. Prayers to you. 🙏🏻

I have said this before- but I truly feel that colon cancer is NOT silent at all! Our bodies are warning us up to that point in stages when people eat plant based foods, processed or whole (raw or cooked) - doesn’t matter which type you digest- does the same to your colon! These are stages that our colon warns us that we are damaging it before we hit colon cancer:
Stage 1: IBS symptoms- (Cramping, gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, extended bellies!)
Stage 2 if you ignore stage one: Diverticulitis, diverticulosis, crones, celiac, ulcers, polyps, leaky gut, lactose, and so on.
Stage 3: colon cancer!
We need to be listening to our bodies! Doctors say it’s normal to have IBS- but NO it is not! It’s not normal at all- it is a warning that if we ignore, our guts will get damaged over time! There is no silence with colon cancer- your body has done so much to warn you but you just didn’t listen! Remove plants from your diet and go the human ancestral way of eating- the carnivore lifestyle! It is not a fad- it’s is the human way of eating!
My uncle was carnivore for over 2 decades .. guess what he still got this and now is gone so there's that. Noone is God except God himself and ONLY he knows why and how. Have a great day 😊
I wish more people would do the research and try carnivore, I’m in my last week of detoxing off sugar, already have gotten rid of grains. I am eating carnivore now and it’s been a month. I’m 66 years old, both my parents died with colon cancer and got it at the same time. Beef bone broth has healed my gut, I now eat a lot of red meat because I know it’s helping me. Our bodies tell us what’s going on if we listen.
Keith, thanks for sharing. I appreciate your insights and advice. I am having surgery in 3 weeks to remove cancer. I had lower abdominal pain 3 months ago that eventually went away. But I did not want to just forget about it. Finally, got an appointment with a GI doctor for further evaluation, and he ordered a CT scan. And they found the tumor.
What made it to away?
@marcusgoldsby2671 We don't know. But after about 3 weeks, the pain was gone. It was weird. But I already had an appointment set with the GI doctor, and so I decided not to cancel. When he examined me, he did not see or feel anything, but I could tell that he did not want to ignore the fact that I had pain in that area for 3 weeks. So he ordered the CT scan.
@@SuperAngelic5 that is awesome they were proactive..you could be shitting blood and losing weight and doctors will say it's just hemorrhoids. How old are you? I had random lower Pains in abdomen as well as left and right side for almost a month that would come and go but it's pretty much went away also

So young and fighting uphill battle. This should make everyone upset. Doctors and entire medical field just throws the towel. “We don’t know why”. Why do we get sick? Why we feel fatigue? Why our own bodies decide to go haywire? Answer is not that complicated. We are made pf amino acids, fatty acids and 80+ minerals. All our internal systems are built on cholesterol. Immune system is built on proteins and fats. To be exact animal proteins and animals fat. We need to eat not because they are calories, but because they are building blocks of every individual cell in our bodies. There is more to it. Red meat contains minerals in the form that we cannot get from plants. Eggs is nature’s superfood. It contains everything to develop life. We leave on the planet where soil is depleted in minerals and is also contaminated with chemicals. Plants do not have nutrients unless they get them from the ground. Crops are heavily sprayed with glyphosate that plants retain. And yes, we eat them in the oatmeal and bread. Despite what everyone hears fish like sardines are healthier than any vegetable or fruit. Finally, our genetic code determines what we supposed to eat. It contains instructions for amino acids, fatty acids and minerals. It knows how to break down foods and what to do with each element. Except fiber. It’s a foreign substance and it fights back using our own immune system. Auto immune disease should ring the bell. Certain foods don’t belong in our digestive tract. Otherwise we develop inflammation and due to insufficient quantities of stored and eaten minerals, human body tries to compensate. It also fights back. Cells do not want to die. They adapt to changing conditions. This is what cancer is. It’s a survival mechanism. Cells mutate because they want to survive. Proper nutrition prevents cancer.
That and good genetics. Mostly genetics.
@@Matt2023 genetics have nothing to do with cancer. It would if everyone with genetic mutation developed cancer. But in reality some people do and others don't. In addition, there are number of people without genetic mutation who develop cancer too. Hence, genetic mutations (markers) are irrelevant.
Exactly! The only person in my family to get cancer was a vegetarian, and those vegetables were not organic...
@@talktomenowxbmcI think you are right in many ways of what you wrote in your first comment. However, genetics has a lot to do with cancer. Thats why they run genetic testing on those having for example a specific gene for developing breast cancer or other reproduction organs.
Been trying to get the drs/ nps to do something ,as what I've been going through started in 2019 .
You have similar to me mate. I had a blocked sigmoid colon with some affected lymph nodes. I have a metastasis on each part of my liver so 8 in total. I had a stoma done on 07th Dec 24. Ive had 21 lots of chemo. My cea level in Jan was 799 its now 4. Touch wood my ct results have all been excellent. My latest ct results I get on the 5th Jan.
Whatever you do try not to listen to the statistics on-line for the survial rates. 5 years says 14%. Are large amount of those numbers are older people 65 plus who already have health issues. I was 42 when diagnosed.
Im on panitumumab,Irinotecan and Flouracil 5fu. If you wanna chat to someone who is also going through it.
Look into fasting and going low-carb and zero sugar for you diet, could be a big help.

bloodwork was fine,, but I have lost weight and have had a change in bowel movement for a couple of months.. the last 3 weeks I have had permanent bloating, gas, rumble, and a soft stool,, that starts pretty normal and then 5 minutes later is more watery.. I am shit scared.. Worked with radioactivity 14 years ago and my gut was exposed at the lab bench.
I wish these videos included what was the patient's diet prior to being diagnosed exemple how much fried food, sodas, modified food was part of their diet and how often they would consume any of that.
What type of water did they mostly consume? Tap? Bottled? Filtered?
How much stress did have in their life and for how long?
How often did they exercise? What type of exercise?
There are many reasons why there's more and more cancer in younger people and I feel we are totally missing out not taking advantage by not going into important details like that. We are treating this like it cannot be simply reversed naturally by getting rid of the potential culprit and adopting the right habits.
It's great that we share stories that might help others go through it but how about we try to help avoiding it entirely.. ✅️

He should've had a colonoscopy b4 being approved for gallbladder surgery. That's standard procedure

I need everyone's advice.. my 26 years old wife was diagnosed with colon cancer metastasis to the lymph nodes neck and an area im not sure what its called but doctor said the cancer in found attached in the main vein of the heart. She had 14 rounds of chemo, weight didn't decrease. May be only 1 kg decrease. Two surgery done, Part of colon removed cleared. Neck lymp nodes removed cleared. Now the doctor said it totally very risky to operate the last remaining cancer cells which is attached to the main veins of the heart bcoz while operating even a single small cut to the vein wil lead her to unstoppable bleading.(sory i m not sure what the main vein connected to the heart is called) Chemo is not property working too. What should i do?? Im hopeless. Her treatment duration has reach one year plus. I need advice plz🙏 been praying seeking hope...

Age is a big factor. CRC is often a old person's disease and anyone under the age of 60 is usually dismissed
clinical trial AOH1996 is extremely successful in 14 patients at Sloan Kettering Hospital I read, and also available at at least one other ; City of Hope Hospital in California.

I had no system
There’s a test trial underway for a group of people with colon rectal cancer that has been surprisingly effective for the small group in it. Not sure if it does anything once tumors metastasize but might be something to look into.
I always wonder how Americans without medical insurance cope when this happens. Here in Australia our "free" public health system, although slow for general medical surgeries, is real good for life saving service. I have heard that more Americans go bankrupt as a result of medical bills than anything else?
A lot of hospital have community help programs and they know they will never get the $$$$$ so it basically cleared out. Bc they will never get it. Only 1 income if that. And they can't take your car or house away your investments ira your all protected there. So it's cleared out

Unfortunately ,true it seems .plus its very frustrating trying to get the Drs to even do any thing at all.
Yes very true. I went to the er for heavy bleeding and was charged 6500 for a ct scan. Turns out I needed hysterectomy along with a few other surgeries. My surgery was 125000 dollars. My insurance paid all but 8000. So I paid that and I still owe the 6500 from the CT scan. Ugh so much money. Not to mention the price of the monthly premiums.
I had my gall bladder removed 2019 of March. Then 3 years later, I started experiencing gerd. I thought it was because I had a missing gallbladder. Then 2 years ago, I started to experience flatulence. A year and a half ago, 1 time there was bright red blood on my stool. I thought it was hemorrhoids. It never happened again. Then a year or so ago, my bowel habits changed, needing to use the toilet after eating. And my stool was emanating a foul odor. Kaiser sent me a colonoscopy kit and the doctor removed a half size of a pea cancerous polyp. Right after the cancetous polyp was removed, there is no more urge to use the toilet nor foul stool.
So how you feeling now
@esguy502 my abdomen and CTscan shows no cancer. I researched how I could stop another cancer growing inside me. I started to eliminate sugar and carbs in my diet. I am eating only nutrient packed foods, and as much as possible raw. Drinking graviola leaf tea, matcha/green tea... adding turmeric and curry powder to tofu... fish, chicken, fresg vegetables especially the colorful ones. No red meat. I'm not sure about red meat claim of ketosis as colon cancer is caused by eating red meat and processed foods. Also I started doing brisk walking. If I get too stressed out from work, I stop and take a break or nap.
I just had vulval cancer operation 3 week now

Interesting how doctors moved quickly on this man's situation when most of these stories l hear on here are women who have been fobbed off from health professionals for years before anyone took them seriously....by then its almost too late
My mom, grandma, mom’s cousin, mom’s brother all had colorectal cancer! Mom’s cousin was 39 years old! Now, I have to go for colonoscopy every 5 years!
