Happened to me before. Around the same time that happened to me, my son was diagnosed with leukemia and very long story short, it turned out he did not!!! 😮 Also, my husband was told he most likely had lung cancer. N he did not!!! Yep! Thats exactly what the DR said "you most likely have lung cancer" but the specialist he sent us to and the second opinion Drs said no, he did not have lung cancer. My uncle repeatedly was told that he had the flu. My aunt brought him home from the Dr for the 3rd time n she found him on the bathroom floor passed away the next morning. He had a pulmonary embolism. My aunt received a settlement for that one!
It sure is. Even more alarming is virtually every video and every patient on this channel is the almost same story! They all got blown off before anyone would take them seriously!

I am a physician and my autoimmune diagnoses plural were missed for almost 20 years. Close call with death, financial destitution, depression and complete career devastation I am now being treated right and somehow have my career back. I don’t know how I’m alive. Interesting, very informational. I'm looking at APR resection end colostomy , and removal of part of vagina, total hysterectomy. It's after chemotherapy & radiation treatments did not get the tumor, still active 😔 I'm not sure how many infections are ahead, radical surgery. Although though it shrank significantly it's active on PET scan. Quality of life, ostomy, urinary issues, and infections are troubling. I'm on zero medication & healthy despite treatments, so I am still processing not being this healthy, and a life long customer of medicine, and infections. It's a beast, and sexual dysfunction is an understatement as to women considering the surgery, and radiation, chemotherapy after effects of trying to treat this. I'm 57, just turned 58. I was hoping chemo radiation would have been remission. Your treatment was successful, and I pray 🙏 that good health, remission, and no tumor in your future. I've had 4 children, and am celibate for 7 years, and that has helped me, otherwise I'd be devastated for my husband, so that is a positive for me now.

Very interesting. I am in awe of these people who are not bitter towards the doctors who fail to diagnose early. I have zero medical training yet if anyone mentioned blood in their stools I would instantly know they need to be checked!
As a former cancer clinical trial researcher who worked on trials exactly like yours, it's encouraging beyond all measures to hear your success story! Researchers fight so hard and feel utter discouragement when a patient is lost. Please, please, please stay on top of your follow ups for decades to come! I can't stress this enough to you. So many patients are lost years later because they became too relaxed with being "cancer free." You can do this! You are stronger than you know ❤
Cancer depletes red blood cells. Usually, it will show up in your blood work. It won't tell them what kind of cancer, or even if you for sure have it. They may not even mention cancer to the patient and just schedule them for a Scan or colonoscopy and endoscopy to find out what is depleting the red blood cells.
Interesting. Because now people who are healthy are getting negative blood work results. Satan is turning everything good to bad and bad to good. And these responses from doctors are not normal. They only react like that to the dead. Because trust me, as much as I am skeptical about doctors, at least by the 3rd time and her picture of blood in the toilet would have allerted doctors to do much further testing. I have bizzare and outrageous stories happen to me, but nothing like a MULTITUDE of doctors from different hospitals/location all telling her she had nothing and not even performing any tests. That's unheard of to the Land of the Living.
My mother died of colon cancer in 1993. She lived for five years after her diagnosis, largely because she was in the clinical trials for the chemo port. A few years after she died, I stared working for Genentech, who developed Avastin - the first biological approved colon cancer. Now there are the next generation of treatments, like the one you are on what a blessing!
@@lindalester9151 Thank you. AvastinI was approved in 2004 for colorectal cancer. Although not a cure, it was one of the first Biotech drugs to extend lives and improve the quality of life. I believe what this person rd River is s new class of Immunotherapy drugs that are achieving these kinds of remarkable results. As the Paul Simon song says “age of miracle and wonder”. Ironically, I suffer from Macular Degeneration, and receive a small dose of Avastin in my right eye every 6 weeks to keep my vision stsble.

Im sorry about your mom and sister 😢 I've had 5 relative/inlaws who've survived colon cancer. I have 8 relatives who are cancer survivors (5 colon, 1 skin, 1 one throat, and 1 breast) survivors.

Just found your channel.I was 63 when I was diagnosed . I had symptoms for about a year. I told 3 of my doctors but they said it was the medication I was on. And to be fair, it could have been. I had severe constipation and that was my only symptom. I asked my GP for a colonoscopy but she was reluctant and said it was my medication and hemorrhoids. I finally told her I will keep calling and keep coming in until I get tested. She agree to the mail in test. It was positive. So they still said probably nothing but did schedule me for a colonoscopy. As soon as the doctor came in after I woke up I could tell by her face. Yup, they found a very large growth. It was the most common kind of colon cancer. So I was scheduled for a colectomy. Stage 2A and they removed a big section of my small intestine. Checked 32 lymph nodes. All were clear. The tumor had almost completely blocked my colon. But they got everything. No bag, no chemo, no radiation. I just had my year later colonoscopy and everything is clear. If you feel something is wrong, KEEP PUSHING! Advocate for yourself.

My niece was 33 lost her life a few weeks ago of colorectal cancer… it was beyond heartbreaking. She had her own practice in psychiatric practice for treating young children with autism by combining natural and western medicine… she ignored the symptoms and was too late…. I'm glad you shared your story, sweetie. I'm in my 60s, and I'm getting a colonoscopy. I have had them before, but I feel something is wrong this time. I'm a huge advocate of taking your health into your own hands and persisting these tests. Your doctors failed you. You could have caught it early. I'm glad you're doing well.

I was gaslighted for a year. I was 37 when I started having symptoms. It took 18 months and being admitted to the hospital and saying I won't go home until they find out what is wrong with me. I knew my body and knew something was wrong. They did laproscopic surgery and the second the scope was put in they found my entire abdominal cavity filled with a bright green mucinous substance. My appendix had filled with cancer, ruptured and been dumping this stuff into my abdomen for close to two years. Since I began complaining of intense stomach pain. My doctor gaslighted me. Said it was IBS. 3 surgeries, one of which was an experimental heated chemotherapy belly wash, and 2 rounds of chemo later I was cancer free. Always advocate for yourself!
@amybelcher6908 I did not have an ultrasound. They did a CT scan, couldn't see my appendix on CT, saw fluid, told me it was a ruptured cyst and I would get better on my own. Went in a couple months later, another CT scan, no appendix in scan and fluid. Again another ruptured cyst, told me I should go on birth control. I went back in a day later in terrible pain. They did another CT and there was even more fluid. They knew there was no cyst because I'd just had a scan the day before. The fluid was coming from an unknown area. That's when the doctors began arguing over what to do. I was in the hospital on and off NPO for 3 days while they argued. Finally I told the doctor that wanted to do the surgery that he was the one I wanted to care for me and just find out what is going on. That's when they found the cancer. My appendix had been ruptured and open leaking into my abdomen for at least months since my first CT, which is why it wasn't visible.
I'm 36 and currently experiencing these same symptoms, had my second child 18 months ago. I've taken two FIT tests both came back abnormal, I've lost so much weight and just don't feel well. Cancer runs in my family so I'm hoping I won't have to jump through any hoops to get my colonoscopy. Thank you for sharing your story.
I was gaslit for over six months by a doctor who said I was depressed, had hemorrhoids, and my five days of vomiting was “just the flu”. I made them refer me to a gastroenterologist. I called them directly and they got me in the next morning. I was admitted to the hospital and the next day had a colonoscopy to confirm stage 3 rectal cancer. Controversial, but I don’t think this happens to men as much as women.
You mean the cancer or the gaslighting happens more in women? For a serious illness, I would rather go see a woman Dr.. I feel men doctors don’t take me serious for some reason. Do they think all women are hypochondriacs? I sort of feel a woman is more in tune with her body. Since giving birth many years ago, I feel like I can connect my brain to internal parts of my body and “feel”.
I feel so bad for her because they didn't take her seriously. So sad that just because you're young, they assume nothing is wrong...I hope everything works out for her.
As a RN, I am shocked to hear that you were dismissed by many doctors especially with your later symptoms of losing weight, blood in the stool and abdominal cramps, they are the typical symptoms of colorectal / colon cancer. In Australia, we get a 50th birthday gift from the government , a free stool kit send to us not long after our 50th birthday and we receive them every 2 year (if negative) to check for blood in the stool and a few people that I've known found out their early cancer from this life saving kits. I'm about to start my colonoscopy journey next week. Every word from your story parallels my life. From symptoms, to being dismissed repeatedly. The pain, nausea, vomiting, sewage 💩 ⛽, mucusy, bloody, bile colored diarrhea or constipation that doesn't seem to end. Currently, the abominable pain is the worst, and I've had a gut feeling for months now. I sometimes have a pulling/pressure feeling in my rectum, but then won't poop. I went from working full time, with 4 kids/4 Dogs, and I'm married. I'm more tired now, than I was when I had 3 boys 4 and under and was pregnant with my 4th while working. My husband is carrying at least 85% of my 50% because I feel so sick all the time. I quit my job mostly in part of my symptoms. Praying I'll have answers soon, I'm 33 and want to be as proactive as possible, given I have autoimmune diseases on my plate as well. Thank you for your story. Ugh. I’m so sorry. I hate that we have to fight doctors for our health. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer with all those same symptoms during Covid. The worst was the constipation and I couldn’t sit down for more than about 30 minutes without being in pain. They kept saying it was probably hemorrhoids! I was too young and healthy to have cancer they said. When I finally said they had to do something about my pain, they agreed to give me an MRI and because of the inflammation in my buttocks, they couldn’t see anything. Sent me to the ER and I got admitted for an emergency colonoscopy. They couldn’t even get far into my colon because I had a large tumor blocking it. Thank god I pushed and pushed. I have been in remission for almost 3 years. Radiation was the worst for me. The burns were horrible. But it did shrink my tumor a lot. Still had to have a 17 hour surgery but I’m alive.

Yes I always worry that my cancer may return! Im trying not to over worry of course. I think you would make a great therapist or counselor for others who are going through cancer, whether they are newly diagnosed or, like me, 18 years out! The worry never goes away. Same thing happen to my 37 yr old daughter Northern NY. Baby was born and 10 days later the news was delivered. Colon cancer spread to liver. She passed 2019 leaving 2 beautiful children and husband
I am so sorry about your daughter. I lost my mom when she was 64. They all kept telling her she was bleeding due to menopause and she needed a hysterectomy. Her side hurt all the time and she would bleed heavily every two weeks. Her tumor was found off a cat scan by a regular doctor in the lining of her colon. It was the size of an orange. She was a very healthy person. She was loyal about getting those done and her previous colonoscopy was 4 months before. The doctor missed it. It was already too far gone in her liver and lymph nodes but she did the chemo. She passed away 3 months later. Now as I reflect on these stories my mom didn’t want to bother the doctors and stand firm now I blame myself for not letting me go with her because I loved her so very much and she never ever complained.
That statement you made about “not being able to see a doctor” because you don’t have health insurance is absolutely shocking!!! This is suppose to be an “advanced” country!! WTH?
@misswinnie4.8 I have a relative that is 63 years old, in very poor health, and on Medicaid. The only way you can see a specialist is with a referral. Getting his PCP to refer him has been next to impossible. When you are poor, no one cares about your health care has been his experience. It's so very sad.
That's just not true. I have no money, and have been in the error and hospital twice recently. Youu do have to advocate for ur own Healthcare tho, whether u have insurance or not. If it's a long term illness u go on indigent care, which is medicaid, it's free

We women are dismissed too often. "it's period pain, it's anxiety or depression". I was dismissed for 15 years until finally a wonderful doctor tested and diagnosed me with Lupus.
I get the part about it all hitting you later, after treatment. It was the same with my son who had leukemia at 19. He was so strong and positive during treatment, but suffered PTSD anxiety after. Honestly, I went thru the same thing as his caregiver. It's hard. When youre in the midst of the battle, you're just focused on surviving. It's not till after that you have time to reflect.

Hi Kelly, I was a new mom too at 32 and they assume my systems were due to being a new mom. I had colon cancer. I knew something was wrong like you did. I believe my daughter saved my life. God blessed me with her and the pregnancy is what saved me.
Yes I did have bleeding but they kept telling a lot of pregnant women have bleeding due to hemorrhoids. So when my daughter was 4 months, I went to my family doctor and he did a rectal exam. He sent me in for testing and that was when they diagnosed me with colon cancer.
It seems like this is common for new mothers. I had a brain tumor that was found 2 months after I had one of my sons in 2007. My primary doctor thought I had postpartum depression and referred me to a psychologist even though my symptoms were passing out, not eating, confusion, forgetfulness etc. My family finally took me to the ER where I was given an MRI. I’m thankful that you finally found a doctor who was willing to listen and not just brush you off again. It seems like once a doctor hears you’re a new mom, any other symptoms can’t be from anything else. I had blood in my stool and my doctor at the time had me do a stool sample and colonoscopy right away. It turned out to be nothing. Thank you for sharing your story.
Doctors really need to get past their pre-conceived notions. I was ignored because I am overweight. So their advice to me was lose weight. Even when I told them I am losing weight and I’m not trying to. Too many people suffer needlessly because they don’t listen. We know our bodies.
I loose weight if I reduce diet. If I do exercise of walk weight goes down very fast. I lost 8 kg in two months. If i don’t monitor my diet, my weight goes down 250 gm daily. If I take eonough food my weight donot loose.
These stories are absolutely heartbreaking for us in Canada to see. We pay not a cent for our universal coverage and get whatever tests we want, when we want. I had a benign polyp removed 30 years ago and I get a colonoscopy every five years just to check. No symptoms required. It staggers the mind that the richest country in the world has a for profit health care system that gaslights young patients because they don’t want to do costly tests. Tragic!
I don’t know where you live in Canada but they is not our experience. My sister passed away from this because her dr refused to give her a colonoscopy even though she had symptoms for 10 years! By the time she got one it had spread to her ovary. She fought for three years. Now even with a family history and having had a polyp my dr said a colonoscopy is recommended only every 10 years! Even when you show symptoms it takes 3 months to even get a specialist appt or longer. We live in Vancouver.
@@slowrunner40 I am so sorry for your loss, that’s terrible she was refused a colonoscopy on time. I lived in Toronto for the thirty years this applied. I even had one in the first few months of the pandemic. I guess not all provinces are the same. I’ve returned to my home province of Nova Scotia and we are painfully underserved by family physicians and the colonoscopy waitlist is around 9 months now. I hope you are able to get the tests you need and not wait 10 years!

I’ve been dismissed for 7 years. I finally met a GI who told me I’m probably constipated. I’m so glad I stood up for myself and I told him “I don’t care what you think, schedule the scopes”. I have them on Sep 26 and I really Hope they find what I’ve been feeling.

I had same symptoms ( know the smell) but not much blood. I was angry when my family physician insisted i see GI & get colonoscopy. I do not have cancer but feel like a fool for my resistance. As bad as the situation is, you are beyond blessed to get to take the trial drug. I’ve heard other stories of people getting fortunate enough to selected fir these trials and fir the most part they usually seem to work out with these trial drugs.
I've been suffering after my miscarriage in Feb 2023 w/ severe abdominal pain and going in and out of hospitals and doctor appointments. These doctors now a day really do just brush their patients off until it's something extremely severe. 😢

When you mentioned a sewer smell that hit me like a ton of bricks. I have smelled that several times! I wasn't sure where it was coming from and then I realized it came from me. Pretty scary. Doctors have been discounting me for years. Not even sure who to go to next. I'm beginning to think most doctors do that, not only from my own experience but he number of other patients reporting the same thing happening to them. It's no wonder so many people are sick and so many die because of late diagnoses. The medical system needs to train people alot better!
I cannot imagine how emotionally challenging it is for anyone to go through giving birth and to deal with cancer and moving cross country within a year， very strong soul.
I sort of agree, yet internal hemorrhoids, which heavily pregnant women can be prone to, will likely cause bleeding.

I live in a third world country called Paraguay. I went to the proctologist and said: I just poop blood. After a quick check he said: colonoscopy. No cancer was found, only polyps.
In India , which is a third world country we can get CT scan , colonoscopy , endoscopy or any test done whenever we want . That’s such a blessing and it’s not expensive too .
So you never had surgery? My son at 46 years old went through this 2 years ago…chemo, radiation, and colostomy bag. In 2022. Please let me know….he is a constant worry to me.
What a pretty girl, you are. Thank you for sharing your story. I have recently been diagnosed with the same cancer, in the exact same place. I'm experiencing the same symptoms, etc.. Life has been a whirl-wind of procedures and appointments for several weeks...that in itself has been a little overwhelming at times. I have a consultation coming up on August 12th, and my treatments will begin some time after that. It will consist of a combination of radiation and chemo for 6 weeks, and once the radiation part is complete, the chemo will continue for an additional 3 weeks (if i remember correctly). Then, possible surgery after that. Your story has given me hope...thank you, and all the best to you!

I've had some weirdness I would say the last 6 months. Been working with my fiber and all that. What I'm concerned about now is if it is early stages, does anyone ever catch it? I don't have insurance. I have a couple of the symptoms including the funny smell suddenly coming on. But I've got polyps or hemorrhoids or something showing up also. My aunt died of colon cancer because she never told anyone until she was too late to save. I'm tempted to contact the cancer center first and work my way backwards but without insurance is there any hope? $7,000 to $9,000 deductible plus a monthly premium was more than I could do. I'm 62 years old so I just figured I would deal with it if something happened. I have a chance it's nothing and I have a chance of living if I catch it early enough but without insurance who's going to listen to me? I have launched my 4 kids and all are living their lives with their families. I thought this was my time to Blossom. I will get out on the website but I would welcome any First Steps advice from anyone. Raising four kids over 40 years you have a lot of contact with medical issues Plus friends and church family. This is different and it's that knowing that something's not right that is so scary. I would love to get your favorite resource for my situation. Thanks for reading

In my state, there is a health center that treats patients without insurance, that provides preventative tests and then, if someone does need further care; they help them apply for free insurance. Have you ever applied for insurance under your state's Medicaid program? I know able bodied, working adults who qualify based on income. One of my friends thought that she wouldn't qualify, but she did. Maybe there is a program in your area that you would qualify for. You are also near the age that your local council on aging might be able to assist you. Sending you gentle hugs.

I’m an ER Dr, and blood in your stool unless caused by hemorrhoids is definitely abnormal. Was it bright red or black in color.? A sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy should’ve been done to either rule in or out the diagnosis of internal hemorrhoids. I’m so sorry that they brushed you off. They were guessing at the diagnosis, and I feel that is malpractice for sure. I practice medicine completely differently. I always rule out the most serious diagnosis first,then move along to the less serious ones. For eg if a 50 yr old comes in with severe back pain, I have to rule out an aortic aneurysm first. Acute anxiety could be from tachycardia, thyroid storm, an adrenal tumor or other cardiovascular abnormality , all of which need to be ruled out (based on an algorithm) before settling on a dx of panic attack. That’s the way all doctors should approach a patient’s symptoms. A thorough history is invaluable. Always get more second and third opinions if you are having unusual symptoms. Internal hemorrhoids do MOT cause the symptoms you were having (except the bleeding). So happy there was no metastasis. Lab work will not help in your situation. Anemia postpartum is common, so that wouldn’t have raised an alarm. But the weight loss, constipation, and abdominal pain should have been enough to do the GI work-up. What’s the name of the drug? And was it squamous cell or adenocarcinoma?

@@Pkeats817 if you have no faith n your doctor, you should switch And for sexual dysfunction, ask about a testosterone cream preparation to apply around the vulva, but that can make the skin thin and dry which happens anyway after menopause. Whenever you are feeling like you’re not being heard or that caregivers are being dismissive, go somewhere else. Those people should not be in the health care profession.
Totally agree with your post. It baffles me that she got diagnosed with hemorrhoids without actually having anyone do a physical exam. Rectal bleeding calls for a visit to a GI specialist. Before Colonoscopy, they can do a rectoscopy for instance, which is what I had with similar symptoms. It took maybe 10 min, not more. It went about 20 cm and it did diagnose hemorrhoids and anal fissures which was actually why I was bleeding. This would’ve been a regular GI check. I’m truly shocked no one thought of sending this girl to a REAL doctor. I had to have a Colonoscopy in my early twenties due to Constipation , that required a bit more prep but It is something they do everyday. I am actually thinking of repeating it 10 years later because I’ve been having tummy cramps and a soft very often for the past year which is not the norm for me. My doctor says it’s probably IBS because I do have days when it’s normal, but I’d rather have it checked.
@@Kitten9011 Yes, but remember, IBS is also a guess, and that diagnosis falls into the basket of “the least serious answer”. I always practice medicine by ruling out the most serious cause for symptoms first. That doesn’t mean indiscriminate testing, though. It’s just that I consider aortic aneurysm rupture before I call severe back pain a lumbar strain, or heart palpitations are coming from a serious arrhythmia rather than a panic disorder etc.
@@kkdoc7864 thanks for your answer, it’s why I’ve asked to have a Colonoscopy first and then I’ll accept the IBS diagnosis if that comes clear. I’ve had a Rectoscopy done quite fast so can’t complain about that. I’m based in Poland and usually it is not difficult to get a referral for a specialist or a procedure like Colonoscopy. The waiting time could be long though. Privately it wouldn’t cost more than 200-300$ so it’s still doable.

I have a young friend about your age, Kelly, that had similar symptoms. Dismissing concerns seems to be the common denominator with young ppl getting these cancers. My young friend had her bowel, anus, vagina and all reproductive organs removed, and has a permanent ostomy. They were able to save her bladder. She had eggs frozen. I’m so thankful that this new treatment came at the perfect time. 🌻🌻🌻

I’m surprised they didn’t pass it off as colitis. I’m so glad they found it and you fought so hard through it. I’ve had internal hemorrhoids 🤦🏻♀️ my mom is an Ostomy nurse and absolutely loves what she does. A friend of mine was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and it’s starting to spread.
Rule #1 if you have any rectal bleeding: INSIST on a colonoscopy done by a gastroenterologist. I was diagnosed at age 16 with hemorrhoids. 16. I had severe rectal bleeding and was ridiculously anemic (oh, it’s her period 😑). Fast forward to age 30: I’m in the hospital because I’m rectally bleeding all the time and haven’t been able to eat or hardly drink water for 6 weeks and nearly collapsed. Over half of my large intestine had to be surgically removed because of severe ulcerations. I got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. A month after surgery, I started bleeding began. I was referred to a different gastro who put me on a type of chemo/immunosuppressive drug and the bleeding eventually stopped. He did a gene test and found out I actually have Crohn’s disease, which affects the entire digestive tract, and gastroparesis (delayed emptying of the stomach). That doctor literally saved my life. I’m 53 now and haven’t relapsed. The gastroenterologist eventually retired and his son took over. He’s an amazing doctor, just like his father. I’m thankful every day for both of them.
I know a very similar story as far as someone being dismissed by the ER doctor when they went in with a whole array of symptoms. The ER doctor was dismissive and condescending, seemed to think he was all knowing. I try to give the ER Dr leeway, even despite how my relative was treated. ER Drs aren't necessarily trained up enough to recognize cancer in a CT scan. Sadly. But it doesn't help when they bring too much hubris to the situation and can't say something simple like "we aren't equipped to diagnose this kind of issue in an ER"... My relative had a long road to travel before they finally got access to a specialist who could properly diagnose the situation.
It's sad that doctors don't take patients seriously! I have UC and was first diagnosed with IBS. After moving, I had trouble finding a new GI and worry about cancer.

I have only been seeing bright red blood in my stool. I googled what the causes could be, I saw colorectal cancer. I didn’t have stomach cramps before, but after I googled the symptoms of colorectal cancer and saw stomach aches, I immediately started having stomach aches. First I thought it was all in my head but I have had it for three days now. I am going to the ER tomorrow to insist on a colonoscopy.
She did not need to have blood work . Visible continuous blood in her stools is always a red flag that strongly suggests likely possibility of colon cancer and needs urgent attention!
There is so many of my family members before me that died of colon cancer or lived with a colostomy bag. My generation is having regular colonoscopys and having polyps removed before it can become cancer. My kids are now having a problem because if the colon cancer isn't in your immediate family they can't be tested until 45. The system isn't working for my kids or my nieces or nephews.
My youngest niece lost her battle at 40 yrs old with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, after being ignored at the ER when she went in repeatedly. They just said she was Constipated each time. While that could've been excused the 1st time or 2, when she went back Repeatedly they...they Should've done Extensive Testing, Xrays, CTs, MRIs, etc to determine WHY she was supposedly Constipated!! She too was just married, pg with her youngest of 4, & ended up going thru SYNTHETIC CHEMICALS "treatments", making her life & that of her family Miserable for years!! Now, her children are left without their Mom!!!

Great ending, but too much was skipped over. Did your tumor vanish? Did you need surgery to remove it? Did you need radiation? Maybe a lot was edited out. Anyway, I’m glad everything went well. And I was treated at MSK for breast cancer, twenty-four years ago. All fine so far.

Happened to me before. Around the same time that happened to me, my son was diagnosed with leukemia and very long story short, it turned out he did not!!! 😮 Also, my husband was told he most likely had lung cancer. N he did not!!! Yep! Thats exactly what the DR said "you most likely have lung cancer" but the specialist he sent us to and the second opinion Drs said no, he did not have lung cancer. My uncle repeatedly was told that he had the flu. My aunt brought him home from the Dr for the 3rd time n she found him on the bathroom floor passed away the next morning. He had a pulmonary embolism. My aunt received a settlement for that one!

Interesting, very informational. I'm looking at APR resection end colostomy , and removal of part of vagina, total hysterectomy. It's after chemotherapy & radiation treatments did not get the tumor, still active 😔 I'm not sure how many infections are ahead, radical surgery. Although though it shrank significantly it's active on PET scan. Quality of life, ostomy, urinary issues, and infections are troubling. I'm on zero medication & healthy despite treatments, so I am still processing not being this healthy, and a life long customer of medicine, and infections. It's a beast, and sexual dysfunction is an understatement as to women considering the surgery, and radiation, chemotherapy after effects of trying to treat this. I'm 57, just turned 58. I was hoping chemo radiation would have been remission. Your treatment was successful, and I pray 🙏 that good health, remission, and no tumor in your future. I've had 4 children, and am celibate for 7 years, and that has helped me, otherwise I'd be devastated for my husband, so that is a positive for me now.

As a former cancer clinical trial researcher who worked on trials exactly like yours, it's encouraging beyond all measures to hear your success story! Researchers fight so hard and feel utter discouragement when a patient is lost.
Please, please, please stay on top of your follow ups for decades to come! I can't stress this enough to you. So many patients are lost years later because they became too relaxed with being "cancer free." You can do this! You are stronger than you know ❤

The bloodwork with many cancers always comes back fine until very late stages. So it makes me so mad when they say, "Your bloodwork is fine."
Cancer depletes red blood cells. Usually, it will show up in your blood work. It won't tell them what kind of cancer, or even if you for sure have it. They may not even mention cancer to the patient and just schedule them for a Scan or colonoscopy and endoscopy to find out what is depleting the red blood cells.

The body easily adapts to minor blood loss so it might be true. Not always but you know
Interesting. Because now people who are healthy are getting negative blood work results. Satan is turning everything good to bad and bad to good. And these responses from doctors are not normal. They only react like that to the dead. Because trust me, as much as I am skeptical about doctors, at least by the 3rd time and her picture of blood in the toilet would have allerted doctors to do much further testing. I have bizzare and outrageous stories happen to me, but nothing like a MULTITUDE of doctors from different hospitals/location all telling her she had nothing and not even performing any tests. That's unheard of to the Land of the Living.
My mother died of colon cancer in 1993. She lived for five years after her diagnosis, largely because she was in the clinical trials for the chemo port. A few years after she died, I stared working for Genentech, who developed Avastin - the first biological approved colon cancer. Now there are the next generation of treatments, like the one you are on what a blessing!
@@lindalester9151 Thank you. AvastinI was approved in 2004 for colorectal cancer. Although not a cure, it was one of the first Biotech drugs to extend lives and improve the quality of life. I believe what this person rd River is s new class of Immunotherapy drugs that are achieving these kinds of remarkable results. As the Paul Simon song says “age of miracle and wonder”. Ironically, I suffer from Macular Degeneration, and receive a small dose of Avastin in my right eye every 6 weeks to keep my vision stsble.

Just found your channel.I was 63 when I was diagnosed . I had symptoms for about a year. I told 3 of my doctors but they said it was the medication I was on. And to be fair, it could have been. I had severe constipation and that was my only symptom. I asked my GP for a colonoscopy but she was reluctant and said it was my medication and hemorrhoids. I finally told her I will keep calling and keep coming in until I get tested. She agree to the mail in test. It was positive. So they still said probably nothing but did schedule me for a colonoscopy. As soon as the doctor came in after I woke up I could tell by her face. Yup, they found a very large growth. It was the most common kind of colon cancer. So I was scheduled for a colectomy. Stage 2A and they removed a big section of my small intestine. Checked 32 lymph nodes. All were clear. The tumor had almost completely blocked my colon. But they got everything. No bag, no chemo, no radiation. I just had my year later colonoscopy and everything is clear. If you feel something is wrong, KEEP PUSHING! Advocate for yourself.

She had her own practice in psychiatric practice for treating young children with autism by combining natural and western medicine… she ignored the symptoms and was too late…. I was gaslighted for a year. I was 37 when I started having symptoms. It took 18 months and being admitted to the hospital and saying I won't go home until they find out what is wrong with me. I knew my body and knew something was wrong. They did laproscopic surgery and the second the scope was put in they found my entire abdominal cavity filled with a bright green mucinous substance. My appendix had filled with cancer, ruptured and been dumping this stuff into my abdomen for close to two years. Since I began complaining of intense stomach pain. My doctor gaslighted me. Said it was IBS. 3 surgeries, one of which was an experimental heated chemotherapy belly wash, and 2 rounds of chemo later I was cancer free. Always advocate for yourself!

Did you have an ultrasound at any point?
@amybelcher6908 I did not have an ultrasound. They did a CT scan, couldn't see my appendix on CT, saw fluid, told me it was a ruptured cyst and I would get better on my own. Went in a couple months later, another CT scan, no appendix in scan and fluid. Again another ruptured cyst, told me I should go on birth control. I went back in a day later in terrible pain. They did another CT and there was even more fluid. They knew there was no cyst because I'd just had a scan the day before. The fluid was coming from an unknown area. That's when the doctors began arguing over what to do. I was in the hospital on and off NPO for 3 days while they argued. Finally I told the doctor that wanted to do the surgery that he was the one I wanted to care for me and just find out what is going on. That's when they found the cancer. My appendix had been ruptured and open leaking into my abdomen for at least months since my first CT, which is why it wasn't visible.

I was gaslit for over six months by a doctor who said I was depressed, had hemorrhoids, and my five days of vomiting was “just the flu”. I made them refer me to a gastroenterologist. I called them directly and they got me in the next morning. I was admitted to the hospital and the next day had a colonoscopy to confirm stage 3 rectal cancer. Controversial, but I don’t think this happens to men as much as women.
You mean the cancer or the gaslighting happens more in women? For a serious illness, I would rather go see a woman Dr.. I feel men doctors don’t take me serious for some reason. Do they think all women are hypochondriacs? I sort of feel a woman is more in tune with her body. Since giving birth many years ago, I feel like I can connect my brain to internal parts of my body and “feel”.
I feel so bad for her because they didn't take her seriously. So sad that just because you're young, they assume nothing is wrong...I hope everything works out for her.
As a RN, I am shocked to hear that you were dismissed by many doctors especially with your later symptoms of losing weight, blood in the stool and abdominal cramps, they are the typical symptoms of colorectal / colon cancer. In Australia, we get a 50th birthday gift from the government , a free stool kit send to us not long after our 50th birthday and we receive them every 2 year (if negative) to check for blood in the stool and a few people that I've known found out their early cancer from this life saving kits. I'm about to start my colonoscopy journey next week. Every word from your story parallels my life. From symptoms, to being dismissed repeatedly. The pain, nausea, vomiting, sewage 💩 ⛽, mucusy, bloody, bile colored diarrhea or constipation that doesn't seem to end. Currently, the abominable pain is the worst, and I've had a gut feeling for months now. I sometimes have a pulling/pressure feeling in my rectum, but then won't poop. I went from working full time, with 4 kids/4 Dogs, and I'm married. I'm more tired now, than I was when I had 3 boys 4 and under and was pregnant with my 4th while working. My husband is carrying at least 85% of my 50% because I feel so sick all the time. I quit my job mostly in part of my symptoms. Ugh. I’m so sorry. I hate that we have to fight doctors for our health. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer with all those same symptoms during Covid. The worst was the constipation and I couldn’t sit down for more than about 30 minutes without being in pain. They kept saying it was probably hemorrhoids! I was too young and healthy to have cancer they said. When I finally said they had to do something about my pain, they agreed to give me an MRI and because of the inflammation in my buttocks, they couldn’t see anything. Sent me to the ER and I got admitted for an emergency colonoscopy. They couldn’t even get far into my colon because I had a large tumor blocking it. Thank god I pushed and pushed. I have been in remission for almost 3 years. Radiation was the worst for me. The burns were horrible. But it did shrink my tumor a lot. Still had to have a 17 hour surgery but I’m alive.

Yes I always worry that my cancer may return! Im trying not to over worry of course. I think you would make a great therapist or counselor for others who are going through cancer, whether they are newly diagnosed or, like me, 18 years out! The worry never goes away. Same thing happen to my 37 yr old daughter Northern NY. Baby was born and 10 days later the news was delivered. Colon cancer spread to liver. She passed 2019 leaving 2 beautiful children and husband
I am so sorry about your daughter. I lost my mom when she was 64. They all kept telling her she was bleeding due to menopause and she needed a hysterectomy. Her side hurt all the time and she would bleed heavily every two weeks. Her tumor was found off a cat scan by a regular doctor in the lining of her colon. It was the size of an orange. She was a very healthy person. She was loyal about getting those done and her previous colonoscopy was 4 months before. The doctor missed it. It was already too far gone in her liver and lymph nodes but she did the chemo. She passed away 3 months later. Now as I reflect on these stories my mom didn’t want to bother the doctors and stand firm now I blame myself for not letting me go with her because I loved her so very much and she never ever complained.
That statement you made about “not being able to see a doctor” because you don’t have health insurance is absolutely shocking!!! This is suppose to be an “advanced” country!! WTH?

@misswinnie4.8 I have a relative that is 63 years old, in very poor health, and on Medicaid. The only way you can see a specialist is with a referral. Getting his PCP to refer him has been next to impossible. When you are poor, no one cares about your health care has been his experience. It's so very sad.
That's just not true. I have no money, and have been in the error and hospital twice recently. Youu do have to advocate for ur own Healthcare tho, whether u have insurance or not.
If it's a long term illness u go on indigent care, which is medicaid, it's free

We women are dismissed too often. "it's period pain, it's anxiety or depression". I was dismissed for 15 years until finally a wonderful doctor tested and diagnosed me with Lupus.

I get the part about it all hitting you later, after treatment. It was the same with my son who had leukemia at 19. He was so strong and positive during treatment, but suffered PTSD anxiety after. Honestly, I went thru the same thing as his caregiver. It's hard. When youre in the midst of the battle, you're just focused on surviving. It's not till after that you have time to reflect.
Cancer is hard on the patient and the caregiver. You’re a good mom. Hope you’re doing well now. For me the passing of time has helped. I’m glad your son survived. Wishing you both the best life, this life has to give.

Hi Kelly, I was a new mom too at 32 and they assume my systems were due to being a new mom. I had colon cancer. I knew something was wrong like you did. I believe my daughter saved my life. God blessed me with her and the pregnancy is what saved me.

Yes I did have bleeding but they kept telling a lot of pregnant women have bleeding due to hemorrhoids. So when my daughter was 4 months, I went to my family doctor and he did a rectal exam. He sent me in for testing and that was when they diagnosed me with colon cancer.
It seems like this is common for new mothers. I had a brain tumor that was found 2 months after I had one of my sons in 2007. My primary doctor thought I had postpartum depression and referred me to a psychologist even though my symptoms were passing out, not eating, confusion, forgetfulness etc. My family finally took me to the ER where I was given an MRI. I’m thankful that you finally found a doctor who was willing to listen and not just brush you off again. It seems like once a doctor hears you’re a new mom, any other symptoms can’t be from anything else. I had blood in my stool and my doctor at the time had me do a stool sample and colonoscopy right away. It turned out to be nothing. Thank you for sharing your story.
Doctors really need to get past their pre-conceived notions. I was ignored because I am overweight. So their advice to me was lose weight. Even when I told them I am losing weight and I’m not trying to. Too many people suffer needlessly because they don’t listen. We know our bodies.

I loose weight if I reduce diet. If I do exercise of walk weight goes down very fast.
I lost 8 kg in two months.
If i don’t monitor my diet, my weight goes down 250 gm daily. If I take eonough food my weight donot loose.

These stories are absolutely heartbreaking for us in Canada to see. We pay not a cent for our universal coverage and get whatever tests we want, when we want. I had a benign polyp removed 30 years ago and I get a colonoscopy every five years just to check. No symptoms required. It staggers the mind that the richest country in the world has a for profit health care system that gaslights young patients because they don’t want to do costly tests. Tragic!
I don’t know where you live in Canada but they is not our experience. My sister passed away from this because her dr refused to give her a colonoscopy even though she had symptoms for 10 years! By the time she got one it had spread to her ovary. She fought for three years. Now even with a family history and having had a polyp my dr said a colonoscopy is recommended only every 10 years! Even when you show symptoms it takes 3 months to even get a specialist appt or longer. We live in Vancouver.
@@slowrunner40 I am so sorry for your loss, that’s terrible she was refused a colonoscopy on time. I lived in Toronto for the thirty years this applied. I even had one in the first few months of the pandemic. I guess not all provinces are the same. I’ve returned to my home province of Nova Scotia and we are painfully underserved by family physicians and the colonoscopy waitlist is around 9 months now. I hope you are able to get the tests you need and not wait 10 years!

As bad as the situation is, you are beyond blessed to get to take the trial drug. I’ve heard other stories of people getting fortunate enough to selected fir these trials and fir the most part they usually seem to work out with these trial drugs.
I've been suffering after my miscarriage in Feb 2023 w/ severe abdominal pain and going in and out of hospitals and doctor appointments. These doctors now a day really do just brush their patients off until it's something extremely severe. 😢

When you mentioned a sewer smell that hit me like a ton of bricks. I have smelled that several times! I wasn't sure where it was coming from and then I realized it came from me. Pretty scary. Doctors have been discounting me for years. Not even sure who to go to next. I'm beginning to think most doctors do that, not only from my own experience but he number of other patients reporting the same thing happening to them. It's no wonder so many people are sick and so many die because of late diagnoses. The medical system needs to train people alot better!
I cannot imagine how emotionally challenging it is for anyone to go through giving birth and to deal with cancer and moving cross country within a year， very strong soul.

I sort of agree, yet internal hemorrhoids, which heavily pregnant women can be prone to, will likely cause bleeding.
I live in a third world country called Paraguay. I went to the proctologist and said: I just poop blood.
After a quick check he said: colonoscopy. No cancer was found, only polyps.
In India , which is a third world country we can get CT scan , colonoscopy , endoscopy or any test done whenever we want . That’s such a blessing and it’s not expensive too .

What a pretty girl, you are. Thank you for sharing your story. I have recently been diagnosed with the same cancer, in the exact same place. I'm experiencing the same symptoms, etc.. Life has been a whirl-wind of procedures and appointments for several weeks...that in itself has been a little overwhelming at times. I have a consultation coming up on August 12th, and my treatments will begin some time after that. It will consist of a combination of radiation and chemo for 6 weeks, and once the radiation part is complete, the chemo will continue for an additional 3 weeks (if i remember correctly). Then, possible surgery after that. Your story has given me hope...thank you, and all the best to you!
Kelly shared her story in such an authentic way. It's sad that her doctors originally didn't hear her pleas and perform further testing. But, it's amazing that experimental treatment worked for her!! Imagine all the lives that will be saved and the years of better quality time patients who are able to benefit from the medicine will see! I've had some weirdness I would say the last 6 months. Been working with my fiber and all that. What I'm concerned about now is if it is early stages, does anyone ever catch it? I don't have insurance. I have a couple of the symptoms including the funny smell suddenly coming on. But I've got polyps or hemorrhoids or something showing up also. My aunt died of colon cancer because she never told anyone until she was too late to save. I'm tempted to contact the cancer center first and work my way backwards but without insurance is there any hope? $7,000 to $9,000 deductible plus a monthly premium was more than I could do. I'm 62 years old so I just figured I would deal with it if something happened. I have a chance it's nothing and I have a chance of living if I catch it early enough but without insurance who's going to listen to me? I have launched my 4 kids and all are living their lives with their families. I thought this was my time to Blossom. I will get out on the website but I would welcome any First Steps advice from anyone. Raising four kids over 40 years you have a lot of contact with medical issues Plus friends and church family. This is different and it's that knowing that something's not right that is so scary. I would love to get your favorite resource for my situation. Thanks for reading
@@HopeWins777 Please consider googling to see where there are free cancer screenings near you. In my state, there is a health center that treats patients without insurance, that provides preventative tests and then, if someone does need further care; they help them apply for free insurance. Have you ever applied for insurance under your state's Medicaid program? I know able bodied, working adults who qualify based on income. One of my friends thought that she wouldn't qualify, but she did. Maybe there is a program in your area that you would qualify for. You are also near the age that your local council on aging might be able to assist you. Sending you gentle hugs.

I’m an ER Dr, and blood in your stool unless caused by hemorrhoids is definitely abnormal. Was it bright red or black in color.? A sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy should’ve been done to either rule in or out the diagnosis of internal hemorrhoids. I’m so sorry that they brushed you off. They were guessing at the diagnosis, and I feel that is malpractice for sure. I practice medicine completely differently. I always rule out the most serious diagnosis first,then move along to the less serious ones. For eg if a 50 yr old comes in with severe back pain, I have to rule out an aortic aneurysm first. Acute anxiety could be from tachycardia, thyroid storm, an adrenal tumor or other cardiovascular abnormality , all of which need to be ruled out (based on an algorithm) before settling on a dx of panic attack. That’s the way all doctors should approach a patient’s symptoms. A thorough history is invaluable. Always get more second and third opinions if you are having unusual symptoms. Internal hemorrhoids do MOT cause the symptoms you were having (except the bleeding). So happy there was no metastasis. Lab work will not help in your situation. Anemia postpartum is common, so that wouldn’t have raised an alarm. But the weight loss, constipation, and abdominal pain should have been enough to do the GI work-up. What’s the name of the drug? And was it squamous cell or adenocarcinoma?

@@Pkeats817 if you have no faith n your doctor, you should switch And for sexual dysfunction, ask about a testosterone cream preparation to apply around the vulva, but that can make the skin thin and dry which happens anyway after menopause. Whenever you are feeling like you’re not being heard or that caregivers are being dismissive, go somewhere else. Those people should not be in the health care profession.
Totally agree with your post. It baffles me that she got diagnosed with hemorrhoids without actually having anyone do a physical exam. Rectal bleeding calls for a visit to a GI specialist. Before Colonoscopy, they can do a rectoscopy for instance, which is what I had with similar symptoms. It took maybe 10 min, not more. It went about 20 cm and it did diagnose hemorrhoids and anal fissures which was actually why I was bleeding. This would’ve been a regular GI check. I’m truly shocked no one thought of sending this girl to a REAL doctor. I had to have a Colonoscopy in my early twenties due to Constipation , that required a bit more prep but It is something they do everyday. I am actually thinking of repeating it 10 years later because I’ve been having tummy cramps and a soft very often for the past year which is not the norm for me. My doctor says it’s probably IBS because I do have days when it’s normal, but I’d rather have it checked.
@@Kitten9011 Yes, but remember, IBS is also a guess, and that diagnosis falls into the basket of “the least serious answer”. I always practice medicine by ruling out the most serious cause for symptoms first. That doesn’t mean indiscriminate testing, though. It’s just that I consider aortic aneurysm rupture before I call severe back pain a lumbar strain, or heart palpitations are coming from a serious arrhythmia rather than a panic disorder etc.
@@kkdoc7864 thanks for your answer, it’s why I’ve asked to have a Colonoscopy first and then I’ll accept the IBS diagnosis if that comes clear. I’ve had a Rectoscopy done quite fast so can’t complain about that. I’m based in Poland and usually it is not difficult to get a referral for a specialist or a procedure like Colonoscopy. The waiting time could be long though. Privately it wouldn’t cost more than 200-300$ so it’s still doable.

Please go see a GI Doctor. 🙏🏽 I was misdiagnosed for years. Has a hysterectomy in April 2023. Diagnosed with Stage 3 Colon C in Feb 2024. How did you not see anything a year earlier??? There is NO WAY!! Currently taking Chemotherapy. Keeping you lifted in my prayers 🙏🏽

I have a young friend about your age, Kelly, that had similar symptoms. Dismissing concerns seems to be the common denominator with young ppl getting these cancers. My young friend had her bowel, anus, vagina and all reproductive organs removed, and has a permanent ostomy. They were able to save her bladder. She had eggs frozen. I’m so thankful that this new treatment came at the perfect time. 🌻🌻🌻

I’m surprised they didn’t pass it off as colitis. I’m so glad they found it and you fought so hard through it. I’ve had internal hemorrhoids 🤦🏻♀️ my mom is an Ostomy nurse and absolutely loves what she does. A friend of mine was just diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and it’s starting to spread.
I've got an ostomy myself. I wouldn't have made it if it wasn't for my wound care nurse!!!

Rule #1 if you have any rectal bleeding: INSIST on a colonoscopy done by a gastroenterologist.
I was diagnosed at age 16 with hemorrhoids. 16. I had severe rectal bleeding and was ridiculously anemic (oh, it’s her period 😑).
Fast forward to age 30: I’m in the hospital because I’m rectally bleeding all the time and haven’t been able to eat or hardly drink water for 6 weeks and nearly collapsed.
Over half of my large intestine had to be surgically removed because of severe ulcerations. I got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
A month after surgery, I started bleeding began. I was referred to a different gastro who put me on a type of chemo/immunosuppressive drug and the bleeding eventually stopped. He did a gene test and found out I actually have Crohn’s disease, which affects the entire digestive tract, and gastroparesis (delayed emptying of the stomach). That doctor literally saved my life.
I’m 53 now and haven’t relapsed. The gastroenterologist eventually retired and his son took over. He’s an amazing doctor, just like his father. I’m thankful every day for both of them.

I know a very similar story as far as someone being dismissed by the ER doctor when they went in with a whole array of symptoms. The ER doctor was dismissive and condescending, seemed to think he was all knowing. I try to give the ER Dr leeway, even despite how my relative was treated. ER Drs aren't necessarily trained up enough to recognize cancer in a CT scan. Sadly. But it doesn't help when they bring too much hubris to the situation and can't say something simple like "we aren't equipped to diagnose this kind of issue in an ER"... My relative had a long road to travel before they finally got access to a specialist who could properly diagnose the situation.
It's sad that doctors don't take patients seriously! I have UC and was first diagnosed with IBS. After moving, I had trouble finding a new GI and worry about cancer.

I have only been seeing bright red blood in my stool. I googled what the causes could be, I saw colorectal cancer. I didn’t have stomach cramps before, but after I googled the symptoms of colorectal cancer and saw stomach aches, I immediately started having stomach aches. First I thought it was all in my head but I have had it for three days now. I am going to the ER tomorrow to insist on a colonoscopy.

She did not need to have blood work . Visible continuous blood in her stools is always a red flag that strongly suggests likely possibility of colon cancer and needs urgent attention!

There is so many of my family members before me that died of colon cancer or lived with a colostomy bag. My generation is having regular colonoscopys and having polyps removed before it can become cancer. My kids are now having a problem because if the colon cancer isn't in your immediate family they can't be tested until 45. The system isn't working for my kids or my nieces or nephews.
Please get tested for HNPCC aka Lynch Syndrome
My youngest niece lost her battle at 40 yrs old with Stage 4 Colon Cancer, after being ignored at the ER when she went in repeatedly. They just said she was Constipated each time. While that could've been excused the 1st time or 2, when she went back Repeatedly they...they Should've done Extensive Testing, Xrays, CTs, MRIs, etc to determine WHY she was supposedly Constipated!! She too was just married, pg with her youngest of 4, & ended up going thru SYNTHETIC CHEMICALS "treatments", making her life & that of her family Miserable for years!!
Now, her children are left without their Mom!!!

Great ending, but too much was skipped over. Did your tumor vanish? Did you need surgery to remove it? Did you need radiation? Maybe a lot was edited out. Anyway, I’m glad everything went well. And I was treated at MSK for breast cancer, twenty-four years ago. All fine so far.
