We’re headed Jamaica for today’s International Sandwich Sunday for the Bully Beef Sandwich. According to Dani at SweetandSorrel.com whose recipe I followed today, every kid growing up in Jamaica knows this sandwich. It features canned corned beef (thus the name bully beef which is it’s British nickname) but, thankfully, that’s not the only ingredient.

Caribbean folks do indeed love their canned corned beef! I had many dishes with it in the Bahamas
If you use canned lamb is it a Wooly Bully sandwich?
yes…yes it is
And if it's entirely lamb it's a fully-wooly bully sandwich
Good One.
OK, now I’ve got that song stuck in my head. Thanks, I guess.
If you make it from canned goat, then it's a billy bully sandwich. Would I kid about this?
I've never seen this made without diced green pepper added. And sweet corn.
This recipe really is a bit timeless, you could have convinced me that this was one of those 30s cookbooks and I wouldn’t have batted an eye.
Hermes: My Manwich!
Canned corned beef isn't just a Caribbean thing. It's very popular across the Pacific in places that had European military bases during WW2. The two big brands are Palm(New Zealand) and Ox & Palm(Australia) and they're a cut above the Brazilian stuff we get in the US.
I’d had to add diced onions during the cooking process and some shredded cheese along with jerk seasoning. Also adding the dill pickle.
Thank you
That’s where my family is from
Have you prepared a Monte Cristo sandwich? When my young daughter and I relished that plate at the restaurant inside Disneyland’s Pirate of the Caribbean she told me “ If I lived in the South I would be fat! “.
I just discovered your channel and subscribed. The way you say “ Let’s give it a go…..” is delightful. I laughed out loud when one of your guests said it with the same intonation! I make a lot of sandwiches and this will help me expand my menu!
I don't remember if he himself made one but he definitely had a guest make one. She was a child actor turned professional chef and it was great
Three way wins! Just saw something on the BBC about a prawn cocktail sandwich - curious as to that one.
Bully for you.
I’ve seen so many of your videos, when I eat a meal now I think I can I plus this up? Thanks
I hope that's a good thing and that your plus up are all magnificent!
@@SandwichesofHistory yes it is!
i expect so much more from an international sandwich! but still it looks great
Saw the Jerk (seasoning) coming. But think the pickle was inspired.
I originally thought "pickle" but figured the yellow mustard would provide adequate tang.Oh well.

I want to Plus Up with all of your Oxfords. You're always looking so stylish
Thank you so much!
Pickly pop is a regular part of my internal vocabulary now 😅.
Right on!
Reminds me of a sloppy joe!
So many options! A bit of a sodium bomb, but ok as a "sometimes" sandwich. Real WWI vibe.
You might want to follow this Indiana judge ruling to expand your tastings
“Indiana judge rules tacos are ‘Mexican-style sandwiches’“
"The Court agrees with Quintana that tacos and burritos are Mexican style sandwiches, and the original Written Commitment does not restrict potential restaurants to only American cuisine-style sandwiches.”
"Bobay said the original agreement would also apply to made-to-order restaurants offering Greek gyros, Indian naan wraps or Vietnamese Banh mi." --UPI
Eh, the ruling was to alleviate a specific case. To me, tacos and burritos are not sandwiches.
If it's an eight I bet you make it again.
bring on the PICKLESSS
I’m English and I’ve never heard corned beef called “bully beef”, maybe that’s an older or a regional thing?
I think it is a WWII thing, my father in law was a desert rat and his favorite food was bully beef hash. Rather him than me.
@@boomshanka8743 corned beef hash can be pretty good though! 😄
Yeah, the term apparetnaly originated in WW I
Day 28 of asking Barry to make the sandwich I submitted!~~
I’m so glad you do separate plus ups and then one with all of the plus ups together. It’s like you’re reading my mind. Well done, cheers Barry!
Don't bully the beef! It doesn't deserve it...
That is a bad plus up
No it isn't
Did a actual jamaican teach you ythis because it's disrespectful what you just msde
I invite you to get in touch with the woman who runs this side then.

This is NOT how we make our bullybeef sandwiches in Jamaica. First of all, mustard, Swiss cheese, pickles are rarely eaten in Jamaican cuisine. Also, the harddough bread is almost NEVER toasted for bullybeef sandwiches. We don't usually add jerk seasonings either. This recipe is really inauthentic.
That's why it was a plus up...
None of the items that offended you were included in the original recipe nor were they claimed to have been a part of the original recipe. The base recipe I got from a website run by a woman who is from Jamaica.
You didnt watch the video
@@gmdoneWatched it several times actually!
You must be new here.
you should check out the kimchi sandwich from eric kim's new cookbook!
I will do that, thanks!
