Air Force BMT has changed drastically since covid and it honestly is as easy as it looks here, I graduated from the 326th TRS and this is our video, it is very easy compared to the other branches, but I know many people still had trouble making it through, it is still mentally challenging, even if it isn't as brutal as it used to be.

@@Lmaoez669 don't worry about it man, the first 2 days are what get you because it actually does suck those first two days, depending on when you get there, there will be no sleep. But after that just make sure your dorm isn't laughing and joking by day 3 or 4 in front of the instructors it's not a good look, you'll get screamed at. But after the first week it gets much easier, make friends and lean on them, joke and have fun, distract yourself. They really are the best friendships you'll ever have.

Interesting they keep their rifles in the slots on the wall lockers. My basic years ago we had to draw from arms room down below. Our buildings looked like these. They still have many of the old style basic training billets as we had where I went to basic training in Army. I live in San Antonio, TX and have been to Lackland Airforce base and Fort Sam Houston where they train new recruits. They all seem to keep a couple of those old bullets though they have built new style buildings in last couple of years. Fort Sam Houston trains all branches who choose a medical related type career for those that choose that career path. They have new facilities that have been built in recent years. But these old buildings bring back memories. Many have learned under those buildings going back into time

I joined in 1971. This was just as Vietnam began winding down. Our TI was notified he wasn't selected for reenlistment with 8 years in. He simply withdrew. He hardly showed up and left us alone for days at a time. There was a schedule on the wall, and we learned to follow it without him. I liked skipping breakfast to get an extra hour's sleep. Another TI went away for the weekend to get married. He never returned and was listed AWOL. They were training the Iranian AF at the time. One guy was murdered in his dorm. It was never solved. I definitely learned we weren't in a perfect organization.

I went through in 1980 and in these dorms. Much nicer beds and lockers now. And I must honestly say it seems milder now than then. That first night and especially the shakedown the next day were a real attention getter; all hell broke loose once we arrived at the dorms and intensified from there but gradually calmed some after the first two weeks. But I have to admit that it was a real milestone in my life and I don't regret it!

I arrived at Lackland 16 August 1983, 0230. 3707 BMTS, flight 147. Honorably discharged June, 1987. That was over 40 years ago. Completely different, which is not surprising. But every day of duty, we were properly shaved with a regulation haircut, ironed creases in our utility uniforms and shined boots. I was a Security Policeman in the Strategic Air command. 2 months ago, I went to the Air Force Base near my home and I eas, quite frankly, appalled at what I saw. The SSgt. who escorted me looked like had 3 or 4 days growth of whiskers. In fact, quite a few uniformed members I saw had even more than that. I saw a Captain in his dress blues with a full beard. and of course these days, AF members don't wear black boots that need to be shined. And some of the haircuts I saw looked ridiculous. At least I can say that the Security Forces troops I saw looked squared away. Proper haircuts and no facial hair. The lady cops had their hair nicely set. I shook their hands.

Maann...what I would have given to not have a bunkmate. Everytime they'd move, even scratch an itch, the entire bunk would shake as if they were beating that shit like it owed them money. (Sometimes, I swear that's what they were doing). Didn't matter if you were top bunk or bottom bunk, it sucked.
Also, must be nice to be able to take your time and eat like that. Sometimes we had until the 1st guy was done eating (always made sure to eat slow so everyone had time to get their food and eat something before time was up or else he risked getting pummeled that night), and sometimes they'd give us 3 - 5 minutes from the time the last person to get their meal sat down. And God Forbid you were the first or second person in the DFAC and you're still sitting there when the last person sits.
