Get a Grip! 😊Do you struggle with opening tight lids like I do? Try this easy sewing project to make a fabric jar opener.
Used to, but now I tap the edge with a butter knife to break the seal. :)
Thanks for making it short and sweet 🙂
My pleasure 😊
Such a cute idea. Would be fun to make a few pairs using holiday fabrics - Christmas, Easter, spring, summer, etc - and give as a gift that can be changed.
Yes I think great to add into a gift basket and so easy to change up the theme.
Very clever!! 👍😊 I've never seen this project before!! Your tutorial ideas are truly practical and useful ... I save some of them to go back and watch again several times. Thank you for another great video!! ❤
This is a wonderful idea! I use those rubber grippers almost daily so this would be so much prettier to have around, and great for gifts 🎁
thanks for watching!
What a great stocking stuffer or hostess gift ides!! Thank you so much.😊❤
Glad you like them!
Will be making every one a set of these for the holidays.❤
I think everyone can use some of these. Their hands will thank you!😊
Great ideas!! Can't wait to make up a bunch of these with my scraps!! ❤
Yay! Thank you!
Great idea! My MIL has arthritis and would really find these very helpful. And I have to say you have a very calming, caring voice. I enjoy your tutorial videos.
Thank you! I'm so glad you found it helpful. 😊
Way easier than how I've been making mine: using 2 pieces of fabric, fusible fleece, grippy liner, a tab & 2 magnets so it can be stored on the fridge. Thank you for showing me an easier, uncomplicated way ... ❤ Seriously, I drove myself crazy when things didn't turn out right! I wanted to make these as co-worker gifts, but dreaded the process... Now I can make these in bulk without fretting! Seriously, thank you! 🙏
Yes I’ve seen them made with loops and magnets but thought there is no need for an extra layer making it thicker and I don’t hang things on my fridge so wanted to make it as simple as possible. Thanks for watching😊
@@NotchesSewing So, so true ... Very bulky, turning them out & top stitching corners were difficult. Don't know how many times my tabs were crooked or on the wrong side. 😆 Made these to go with microwave potato bags for gifts & people loved the jar openers more because they were so useful. Thank you for everything... 🙏
I think adding a magnet or loop is a great idea! Little things like this often get lost in the chaos of kitchen drawers, and I have a hard enough time keeping track of things anyway. :P
Love this. I have so much of that shelf fabric. I actually want to do this for mug rugs.
That makes sense! Great idea for mug rugs.
Wow! Your note about how to position the grainline blew my mind. That is so smart , and I can't believe I've never thought or heard about doing this for the opening section. Thank you!
You're very welcome, I'm so glad it's helpful😊
Great idea. I like the print fabric you used. 😃❤❤
Thank you! 😊
This is so much cuter than the plain square of shelf liner that I use!! Great idea to use up some scraps-thanks for sharing!👍
I was always using my rubber gloves but this is nicer for gifts.😊
Great gadget for Christmas stockings! Thanks for a wonderful tutorial! 😊
Thanks so much 😊
Hi Angela:
Such a creative and functional idea. Makes a perfect gift. I’m already thinking of fun fabrics to use. Thank you for sharing and inspiring. 💜😎🇺🇸
You are so welcome Joanne! I have a ton of fabric with animal faces, so will be good to use it up making these and the bookmarks. Have fun!
Love this. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
I absolutely love this genius idea Angela. So easy to make and a very useful item. I have something similar and I use it a lot. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
Thank you! My daughter was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and these should help her a lot. My skills aren't good enough to even qualify as mediocre, but these seem easy enough for even me to accomplish. 🙂
You can do it! I hope your daughter finds them useful. Happy Holidays😊
OMG I use drawer liners to open jars but never thought to add fabric! Thank you for that great idea!
Thanks for watching😊
Simple yet effective! Thank you
You're welcome!
This is a great idea for gifting!
I think so too!
Such a great idea 😊 Thank you ! 😊
Glad you liked it!!
Love this idea, thank you so much.
What a smart and useful idea! I seem to constantly have trouble opening jars. I'm going to make some today!
Thanks for watching. My best friend brought these to my attention. 😊
Genius idea!
Not my idea but thanks for watching😊
Thanks, nice project.
Glad you like it!
I love this! I'm definately making some of these!
Great project.
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome idea
Cheers!😊
Love this!
Thanks for watching😬
Wonderful idea. Thank you. 💕

Great idea
Thank you! Cheers!
❤ I love this video.
Thanks for watching😊
Super cute! But I just tap the edge with a butter knife a couple times. Breaks the seal and opens without any force. :)
Oooh, I had no idea such a thing could be made! I'll definitely have to add this to future projects. The designated jar opener in the household has lost the superpower over the years. 😅
I know exactly what you are talking about……😊
Thank you for this quick and easy to follow tutorial. I had a bit of an issue with my liner having slight tears, likely from the feed dogs. So, I sewed my second one with a lining fabric, which was much better, until I had to top stitch the opening. I like your idea of sewing the diagonal lines, though. It worked for my first one, but I didn't do it for the second one. Maybe my liner is too puffy 🤔
Thanks for watching. Try a longer stitch or a walking foot for puffier fabric
Thank you. I'll give that a try.
Thank you for making it "sew" easy! How would you recommend washing these? Obviously no dryer, but I assume they'd be washable?
Yes washable and no dryer😊
I started making some today I found this particular draw liner hard to sew even with Teflon foot so I am going to try a different draw liner without the bubbles
try putting some painters tape on your machine bed as well
Ok I will try that
If you have a walking foot, it's magic! You just can't let it sit too long on top of the plastic because then it does kinda stick. Not sure why
Can they be washed and dried?
washable but I wouldn’t put in dryer.
Can you tell what type of pressor foot your using? If my regular pressor foot not matching can I use an walking pressor foot?
I am just using the regular J foot that comes with machine. You can also use a walking foot.
Can they go in the washer and dryer?
I put in cold wash but no dryer
I had to use my walking foot so the material fed thru without puckering and for the thread stitch to be even , then it was easy easy. And yes I tried fabric not drawer liner against my feed dogs and it always puckered or stretched and stitching was irregular
You can try putting some painters tape on your machine bed and under your presser foot or use a teflon foot. Thanks for watching!😊
Love making these simple projects. How much would you charge for these at a craft fair?
Thanks for watching. I do not sell at craft fairs so I wouldn’t have a clue. I’m afraid I cannot give financial advice either.😊
You need to determine your price based on the cost of the materials and how much your time is worth, plus factor in what is reasonable in your area (different areas vary economically). Try selling at what you think is a fair price. If they fly off the shelf maybe raise it a bit. If they languish try lowering it. Also look around at other vendors for similar items to see what they sell for. Good luck!!!
Is it okay to use just one piece of cloth? You are the first one I've seen do it this way? Confused.
It is only one piece of cloth so I am not sure what you are asking?
Hi I noticed I. The list of items there is interfacing. Do you add that?
You don't need to. Only if your fabric is very thin and flimsy.
Where did you get the silicone slip grips from? Ty
Bought from local hardware store here in Australia
Does the shelf liner have a right side and wrong side ?
No you can use both sides
Do you have a link to the template with silicone feet? Ty
Yes links for both those items are down in the description of the video. Tap “more” under the title. 😊
❤
I've been trying to make these. My husband and I keep running into the fact that the grippy part keeps gripping onto the machine. 🥴 We have no idea why it's happening and no idea how to fix it. Welcoming advice and troubleshooting!
You must have a great super grippy liner. Try putting some painters tape under your presser foot and also on the bed of machines so does not stick to it. Use walking foot if you have too.
@NotchesSewing I'll try this! Thanks so much. 💕
Ok. Thought this was a really cute project. Got everything. Tried just regular material and terry cloth. I couldn’t get it to run smoothly through the machine! I kept having to force it. Lining was not that thick….Dollar Tree shelf liner. Made sure my stitch was 4” like you said. Material side up. Had such a hard time. I am so disappointed 😔. Yours ran through so smoothly. Any suggestions?
you can try putting wide strip of painters tape on the machine bed and under your presser foot so it doesn’t stick whether you sew with the liner on top or bottom. You can also try a walking foot. If you don’t have painters tape, you can also use a piece of tissue paper under the liner, sew together and then you will need to tear away after. Cheers!
@@NotchesSewing Wow, thank you! I will try both these suggestions. Thank you so much for sharing!
🤩
I have tried this but as I go to stitch around the square, the drawer liner gets stuck on the base plate...is there a way around this plz?
try putting some painters tape on the base plate
I'm a newbie and I want to know why the stitch needs to be at 4?
Because you are sewing thicker fabrics together you do not need such a small stitch. Also the outer topstitching will look much more professional.
They won’t work on my sewing machine and I’m not sure why. They won’t slide through.
I’m using a brother lx3817 machine
Are you using a teflon or walking foot? Try putting painters tape on the bed of machine as well.
My sewing machine doesn't like it. It just won't move under the needlep
Try putting painters tape under your presser foot
@@NotchesSewing I've sorted it
I love all your crafty sewing projects. I’m always looking to do something new for my family and friends. Thank you.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching😊🙏
Love this! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
