I'd love to see a documentary of this project with close ups of the engineering, overdramatic music with suspenseful shots of difficult logistics, cost overruns and interviews with the team. Like the Crossrail documentary.
Hopefully just a typo but at 3:51 the graphic says the gauge is 5 ft. This will be a problem as the rest of the suburban system uses a track gauge of 5ft 3 inches!
Cool excited to be able to catch a train to Melb Uni or Domain interchange which currently doesnt have a train station. Hope they will allow 5G reception in the tunnels. I know city loop didnt have mobile reception for many years. Now theres mobile reception.
The South Yarra portal states that it is counting out at South Yarra, not the South Yarra station. I agree that there should have been a link to a station there, but that would have added another $1bn to the project.
Every major infrastructure project requires a compromise of some kind. Considering you can easily change at caulfield or in the CBD, the lack of a connection to the existing south yarra station is a minor inconvenience, not a deal-breaker.
@@jaslueasi554 I think @Gabetrains is referring to the Bairnsdale line shutdown in January due to the Dandenong lines being shutdown around Caulfield for the rationalisation of the Caulfield Junction. Additionally, Bairnsdale line occasionally shuts down from time to time as part of the regional rail revival program.
This project is not the size of Sydney’s metro they are building. It will take until 2056 to complete it. It started with the one near us and now it’s continuing on to Bankstown. There is also one going to to Sydney’s second airport. You can see the map under Sydney Metro.

Interesting that the equipment is hired from Kennards Hire - I might go in and rent the track handling machine to lay my home track network next week
so excited to see it completed
I’d love the rail lines operaters begins
Big fan!

i noticed the same typo , surely
Maybe it's just that they were too lazy to do 2 sig figs of precision.
Yeah I reckon it's just a rough number for the graphics.

large parts of Melbourne's suburbs don't have usable 5G reception, I wouldn't hold my breath for the tunnels to have that.
what is the space in the centre of the precast ballast/sleepers designed for -- safety area for anyone who falls between the tracks ?
Very important we say eastern portal, and not South Yarra, as that would just remind us that the plan was compromised from the start!

@@melissavredline1264 like that 1b dollars that was thrown in the bin by cancelling East-West Link?

@@MrAljosav UMMM ACUTRALLY theres no "dandenong" lines the lines that run through dandenong is the cranbourne and pakenham lines
The track gauge is 5’3” NOT 5’!
Imagine texing the only people who use this infrastructure.
Why is the absence of the click clack sound a con?
there are still welds every 165m or so.
a throwback to the good old days of rail travel. click clack, steam whistles, etc
