Funny, I was thinking how similar they both are. Both the Thing and shin godzilla are able to rapidly change themselves and evolve to fit their current adversary and the unpredictability in both of them, and their cosmic horror vibes
Yeah me too, plus why would he need a head there and wouldn't that mean it would have a brain, i like the upgrades but a head? And the arms aren't done yet still under developed.
Well, I'm glad to know there's kind of a face in the tail, but it's good to hear a concise explanation about why there's no face in the tail. Toys don't have a face in the tail, but thankfully some toys have a face in the tail so we can have a discussion clarifying for 10 extra minutes why that's not really a face in the tail. I can't wait for the sequel "Shin Godzilla 2: Face in the Tail" so we can finally get to the bottom of the face in the tail issue, and tail in the face theories, because - let's face it - there's more to this tale than what's at face value (in the tail). we can talk about flat and round tails, phasing the tail, long tails, short tails, medium tails, tall tales, duck tales, tails with half faces, full faces, long faces, and sad faces that are sometimes in the tail and not in the tail, but out the tail. sonic's friend tails has a face, so that's technically a face in the tails. toss a coin, call face or tails: oh! nope! no face in the tail, you win. i lose. congratulations.
@@imza5535 yeah, humans tend to be realy bad in godzilla movies, but here is a tier list of movies in terms of humans 1- godzilla KOTM 2- gojira 3- shin gojira 4- godzilla vs kong 5- godzilla heisei era 6- godzilla milennium era 7- showa godzilla era 8- zilla 1998 9- godzilla earth
If I remember correctly the humanoids aren’t sequel setup, it’s meant to be thematic. I remember someone (I forgot if it was a crew member or someone else explaining their intention) explained it along the lines of “if Godzilla was killed by committee, then his next evolution was to become a committee.” The idea was humanity was the ultimate monster, so his ultimate evolution was to become a form of humanity
It was beautifully grotesque and thematic. Like no joke, they should've kept that prop of the humanoids breaking off from the tail as a monument to the Fukushima incident. It seriously even rivals H.R. Giger's work.
Yeah that was the Idea though they missed a great opportunity to actually make sequels for Shin Godzilla as Shin Godzilla itself brought back the interest for more Toho Godzilla films. I think they had something solid with Shin but both Toho and Hideaki Anno moved on to new projects
@@fcon2123agreed but it can’t rival something that absolutely was influenced by it. If anything it’s a total homage to Giger. In the Alien franchise, humans are even bigger monsters than the Xenomorphs!
They were gonna be sequel set up. It was gonna be a hive mind then slowly become a universe but it wouldn’t really look like Godzilla, wouldn’t really be Godzilla, and there’d be no way for humans to win. Or at least in the concept art
@@Dookieman1975 godzilla would take the form of a humanoid woman if the information about the tail being Goro Maki's DNA is true then Godzilla took the form of Goro Maki's wife that had died due to radiation sickness. I think it would've been cool if they would've made a sequel where godzilla remains as godzilla but the tail mutates to these things including the woman humanoid as she'd be like an antenna for Godzilla to control the new hivemind mutation
I always imagined his 5th evolution being less about DNA and more about adapting to a threat that could kill him. He adapted to every situation or weapon that held him back, the last of which being straight up human ingenuity. Therefore, the natural thing to do would be to evolve into something that could directly compete with humans: a superior humanoid, and many of them.
This is true and is exactly what happens. You're right, and a lot of folks are wrong. Its neutral chaos. Massive evolution, as it evolves it gains intelligence. It even beats the need for oxygen, and water becit was faced with that delima.
This dude must wake up in a cold sweat at 3am in the morning after having an extremely vivid dream about Godzilla’s tail clearly he popped 60mg of adderall
I mean, there’s no way for the humans to win if he thaws. The plans for the sequel was that it was gonna start evolving into a hive mind, then slowly become a universe. There’s no way to have the humans win without the plot armor being ridiculous. So for now, it ends with shin being frozen for who knows how long
That ending shot is just so chilling. The idea that all of this effort could have been for nothing and that there's so much more to this godzilla that we may never fully understand
To me it’s just a sign of the inevitable. One day Godzilla will wake up. His evolution will continue, he is a pure force of nature and reflects the whole commentary of the movie. Referring to the earthquake/tsunami back in 2011. No matter what nature will always win, we can only do so much. It’s one of my favorite movie endings of all time.
"Everything happens for a reason. They're not going to leave this open-ended." Except that's how Hideaki Anno writes and you kinda did what he wanted you to do by giving your interpretation of the ending. Edit: Everytime I get notified about an old comment on videos like these I always find a thread missing my point. This isn't about criticizing Anno's writing, I'm criticizing how OP made this comment here after doing so much research on Anno for this video. So again, yes the ending is open ended, they would leave it open ended, do you see who wrote it?
@@trascendentalsunset We are not shown or told directly what happens after the ending in ether anime or the movie. Manga is not by Hideaki Anno, so it doesn't count.
@@genyakozlov1316 Not knowing what happens after the ending doesn't mean that the we didn't get our closure, the end of the anime ties directly to the end of the movie and it can't get more definitive than that. Shinji accepting the necessity of having relationships with others and giving mankind another chance its not even cryptic, maybe we don't see it but it is clear that after the ending humanity will appear again.
I feel like all of those weird humanoid beings are supposed to be Godzilla's ground defense, as he can't exactly see through buildings, so he pops these out to go through the city and cause chaos on the streets
Because for all intents and purposes, he has. Exposure to intense amounts of radiation basically microwaves from the inside out. Gojira's flesh looking charred and bleeding comes from documented radiation damage images. Kamata-kun's bleeding gills also references the severe bleeding experienced by victims of high-level radiation poisoning.
this is an alternate version of godzilla...a more...disturbing version i might add, but relax the movie has tons of cringey moments to take your mind off shin godzilla
If you think about it there are reptiles that detach their tails as a form of self defence when their life is in danger so is it possible he severed or isolated his tail but without actually chopping it off from body as a means to stop the humans from completely filling him with those chemicals. The reason were seeing a mouth and other creatures forming slowly is because godzilla is regenerating from his unaffected tail which is actually still alive and only needs piece of his body to fully regenerate. Basically instead of regrowing a new tail the tail is regrowing a new body. I also wonder if those humanoid growing out of the tail also function in a similar manner as a way to survive. Basically spawn little humanoid forms of godzilla who would detach and go into hiding somewhere safe till they regrow into a full size godzilla and the more he creates the more likely at least 1 will escape the threat.
@@brianmccann666 That would be pretty interesting idea. After they split off the local environment and native species would influence their individual characteristic
my initial thoughts were that he was evolving so fast, like when he first stands up, it was reaction, and being defeated its as if his tail was the last part to die and it almost evolved to create humanoid monsters that could be even harder to track and destroy because its humans that have attacked him, he almost evolved again, and it would be a cool explanation of why he uses radiation energy, hes an irradiated mutant monster and evolves to whatever he learns or knows
They're not going to leave this open of an ending. Man I've watched End of Evangelion he will most certainly leave this open of an ending if he pleases.
@Phillip Maughmer well not really lazy or shitting Evangelion had some great writing at points prob more like the guy disappearing up his own butt trying to be too clever and esoteric
@Phillip Maughmer Kudos to you!! You may be the ONLY Commentator on this entire platform with the consideration to acknowledge you may have made a slight too-quick judgement regarding prior works. Stunned, Impressed and a Virtual pat on the back for being civil! Stay safe! Cheers!
The debate about the ending of the end of evangelion is a strange one: plot speaking is open, but speaking of message and growth of characters it's kinda definitive, said that evangelion it's about characters growth, not about giant monsters against robot. So the ending fits perfectly the show
My favorite Godzilla design ever.. Very animalistic and soulless.. The type of creature that looks truly terrifying and not goofy in any way. Face looks like a mutated salamander
Wait a minute... if the time skip thing is actually real, then the Yashiori strategy failed and Shin is still active. I originally thought that the tail-face opening was simply a loose fragment of Shin's falling out of place due to him being frozen from the inside out, but what you're proposing is that Shin is slowly but surely working himself up to full activity. And given that the strategy was effectively Japan's hail mary against him, they're Uber-fucked once he starts walking, especially now that he sees humanity as a threat to his person. The fact that he's gonna have infinitely-spawning mini-Shin's tramping around with him doesn't help matters in the slightest.
The only way to win against Shin is not to fight it. The best thing they could've done was to lull it to sleep/wear it out by the end of the film, contain it on some spacecraft and launch it into deep orbit as fast as possible, and even then there's so many variables that could go wrong there's *no way* they could've determined that at the time.
That's not how you make a clear valid claim supported with evidence Anthony R. That's reiteration. D Man1954 repeated himself to extend his video to 20 minutes.
13:26 that was also my favorite shot in the movie i think its a symbolism of "japanese people overcoming the nuclear bomb"youth lookin forward to the future instead of dwelling in the mistakes of the past""
I'm sure that the "face" was simply Godzilla's offspring, or what it was originally supposed to be. After Godzilla realized that he was defeated by a collective, he adapted to the threat by producing a collective of his own.
This guy should be a dictator ...'this is what's happening', 'I am gonna disprove this and no one will disagree', 'they are going to do this', 'they will do that'.
@@xxkillermcflyxx58 It's pretty weird that no one mentioned it, in the concepts it's even more obvious when there are shown female creatures with wings, it's an obvious reference to Rei Ayanami's ultimate form or those scenes where there can be seen her clones
There are two faces, it is developing as each change happens . The skull is wrapped in the skin and slowly being exposed 14:57 the humanoid is pushing through I believe this is why the outer face was distorted and disfigured . Here's what I think. The two different creatures are developing independent of each other and much like a tadpole It's using up the over sized tail as building block for each creature. This ties to the original concept art of two Godzillas. The smaller creatures are a representation of this. Once free of the humanoid Godzilla will go through his final metamorphosis to be more in line with the traditional Godzilla The other will be something all together different. Now you have a new enemy and lets say a bad case of sibling rivalry .Food for thought. Good to see a video that's not shot in front of you bedroom closet .Your production value is getting better good job..
I think the tail was designed to look like a face to resemble the after effects of a nuclear bomb/leakage, e .g hiroshima. If you look at photos of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and even Chernobyl survivors, and their children, their children often have mutations like extra teeth. I think this is what the tail is like.
Dude... One word would have saved you tons of time: Vestigial. An organ or part of the body degenerate, rudimentary, or atrophied, having become functionless in the course of evolution. It is a face, no argument. It's just that it seems to be vestigial.
This vídeo: There is a face! There is not a face! There is not a face yet! it is a face but only on the other side of the tail!!! Not hating but god damn this comment is accurate.
@@NeomDrac ... There is a Half Face on the Tail. Not a Full Face. The begins of the Face's mouth fired tge Atomic Breathe beam from the tail. It continued to grow after that moment.
...what? So... who are you debating, here? "There's not a face... there is a face... no there's a face but it's not really a face... there's a face but it wasn't always there..." You sound all over the place, you're not making any sense, and you're countering an argument no one has ever made. Why? The facts are that there is a face in the tail - which is 100% intentional - and that it does link visually with the further mutation of Godzilla at the end of the film. Is it the mouth of another Godzilla? Yeah idunno Shin Godzilla 2 kind of doesn't exist yet? "Stylistically" is a distinction without a difference. Who cares? Why do you care so much? What is this video a response to? I don't... understand... any of this... :/ 'There's not going to be THIS open of an ending." ...Anno's not doing Godzilla right now, he's back to Evangelion, even though his fans said they'd be happy to wait. The next one isn't related so far as we can tell. No announcement for either Evangelion 4.0 or Godzilla #31 is forth coming, so a prediction for a Shin Godzilla 2 is, at this time, really has no basis and is pure speculation. "It's Goro Maki's DNA." YES. ABSOLUTELY. 100% spot on. Godzilla is continually mutating throughout the movie and undergoes "fission" as a means to survive, but the "5th form" has non-Godzilla DNA in there and from the way they talk about Goro Maki, it's pretty clear he did SOMETHING that directly lead to Godzilla's appearance. And then these Godzilla-Human hybrids show up? In no way is that a coincidence.
It's clear to me from my first viewing that Maki initialised Godzilla's sudden current evolution in this film by somehow introducing himself to the creature's genetics. After remaining dormant in it's original evolutionary form for, how many decades, only NOW does all this happen. I disagree with the video that the tail-only shot is Godzilla's first form, to me this is him already evolving. The aqua-tunnel floods with his genetic material before we even see it, and Goro's research describes the discovered mutation as a tiny, ancient thing which would then go unnoticed for decades. From the opening of the movie until the creature first making landfall, the blood in the aqua line, the vomiting of genetic material from it's gills, it is constantly evolving. For all we know Godzilla's first form is plankton or fish-like. But then Maki does something this creature mutates, and makes a panicked dash for land. Almost like something in it's genes were telling it that land is where it belongs. It makes it to land, calms down, and attempts to stand. It fails, but it's genes are telling it it should be standing, so it's evolution kicks in again. And so on and so on. All because from the begining of the film it's genes are adapting to a land-based life-form, because Maki did something and all of a sudden this unknown creature is becoming more like him. So the final evolution in the film makes perfect sense. Is there a mouth in the tail? Who cares, honestly. It's not important. Hideaki Anno does this stuff, and I know you say folks will be dismissive because it's him, it's also true. If you look at ANY of his earlier works, you will see that things end, suddenly, and without answers. Because Anno understands that sometimes art has more of an impact if it leaves you thinking. That is HIS stylistic choice.
Rizwan Fariz because of the consumption of human DNA, this godzilla can mutate, and adapt so fast, because of its ability to use the DNA of organisms that he eats! They do explain that on the movie!
I'm sure DeadSpace was also inspired by Alien. Looks like enhanced crawling nercromorph: vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/deadspace/images/7/7c/Rsz_enhanced_leaper.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20131129215051 Then again, there's also that weird Alien hybrid xeno from Alien Resurrection.
What the Prof. Maki Goro left in his will in Japanese was "I DID what I wanted to do. So, YOU also do what you want to do." From view of the will, before his suicide (or not death but suspiciously DNA fusion) from a boat floating on Tokyo bay, he seemed to predict at least, a fish type sea creature (godzilla) would become a huge monster in a moment, the huge sea monster eventually would evolve to land on Japan where YOU live, the huge monster would not wander around randomly but would go straight to the center of Tokyo (The ex-fish in the sea knew about precise geography of Japan because it was almost a shortest straight line landing from Kamakura city via Musashi Kosugi (Tanks battle at Tama river) to Nagatacho, where the Diet of Japan locates which had killed the wife of Prof. Maki according to his will). Therefore, Godzilla somehow seemed to have a mind of Prof. Maki or Godzilla was controlled by Prof. Maki by fusion. (Since DNA cannot convey any knowledge or information that needs some experiences (geography, etc.) after birth in the world, it is not only DNA fusion but conveying information about anything Prof. Maki had.) Now, let's assume that Gozilla had a mind and knowledge of Prof. Maki who knew about geography, biology, DNA of godilla and its evolution. Before the coagulation of himself, he could create copies of himself and try to separate them from coagulating body. Hence, I would not be surprised if a mouth was differentiated from the tail or the skeletons (fusion of Prof. Maki and Godzilla?) were derived from the tail.
I said "Prof. Maki Goro's will" because some characters alleged so in the play. However, it might not be a will (it is not a Japanese traditional one at least) before suicide but his message just after the initiation process of fusion with a godzilla on the boat, to be exact intaking bacteria or microbe or its DNA (living in the cell membrane of the godzilla to control the conversion of atomic arraignment) with fish-type godzilla DNA in a glass tube or injection. "I DID what I wanted to do. So, YOU also do what you want to do." , which is past tense.
If the assumption that Prof. Maki Goro was a godzilla is right, the most suspicious is a research and development of the godzilla by U.S. Government. The mission of Ms. Kayoko delegated from U.S. Government was to just search for Prof. Maki Goro, especially "where he was". If he was found somewhere, then U.S. Gov. would comprehend that the huge creature was not a creature what they were investigating. But if he disappeared totally, then U.S. Gov. would comprehend that Prof. Maki had succeeded the fusion with Godzilla, the worst military biological weapon. Since he was afraid that the research and works would be utilized as a biological weapon by U.S. Gov., Prof. Maki fled to Japan with his data and tried to revenge to the Japanese Gov. for his lost wife at the same time.
So Pro. Maki use to work for the US gov. In research of the biological weapon which was Godzilla which they were studying in the sea with the nuclear waste and that he then fled to Japan only to the fuse with the creature to become the infamous Godzilla to have his revenge on Japan cause of his wife's death. They say that the past Godzilla is like a force of nature that destroys Japan like a typhoon, but here, Shin Godzilla is all about revenge of Pro. Maki's wife.
Good point. If Prof. Maki considered only about a revenge against Japanese Gov., then he would have not left the enigmatic molecular structural design of the Extremophile (microbes living in cell membranes of Godzilla) and Japanese Origami (Paper folding) which eventually hinted to solve the above design to lead to one and only resolution "Yashiori Strategy" and a poetory anthorogy "An Asura in Spring" written by Japanese Literature Mr. Kenji Miyazawa on the floating boat. As mentioned by Mr. Randou Yaguchi in the play, ”Prof. Maki probably had a grudge against Japan itself", Prof. Maki simultaneously seemed to imply a possibility of the function of transformation of elements in the cell membranes of Godzilla with the fact that he had left the design and Origami on the boat. Therefore, there are two motives; 1. Revenge against Japanese Gov., 2. Indicating indirectly the function of transformation of elements in the cell membrane of Godzilla. The psychological clue might be hinted in the "An Asura in Spring", but for me, those poems just soothed my mind and reminded of beauty of nature.
All of this is just speculation or hypothesis of how Godzilla came to be and that Pro. Maki knew that this creature will turn into Godzilla. The guy wants revenge and that somehow he knew that if he fused with the creature he turn into Godzilla and have the means to get his revenge by destroying Tokyo, Japan and that it becomes nothing but a radiated contamination zone. The irony is that his wife was killed by a radiation poisoning from the nuclear waste or from the atomic bomb(I cant remember exactly) and that he’s using the a monster that is all nuclear radiation. This almost sounds like Evangelion plot here. I know the director Hideaki Anno is the director, however the plot is that a man loses his wife and in both show and movie. Gendo Ikari and Goro Maki lost their wife, thats the only similarity that the two shows have. Im not into the show but didn’t Gendo Ikari playing with god just get his wife back? Here, in Shin Godzilla, Goro Maki has become somewhat of a god just to burn Tokyo and leave it to ruins. Hideaki Anno really has one fixation of… i can’t name it but it relates to god and viewing of the world. From what I can understand from this video is that theres going to another Shin Godzilla movie and that it will show more of the results of the tail of a new hybrid life of man and Godzilla. Im getting into this theory a little too much but it kept me thinking of whats going on with this Godzilla. I have to say that this Godzilla is very complex compare to the old ones since in the original they say that Godzilla was once a dinosaur that somehow lived on an island and survived all these years just to get hit by radiation from a bomb to turn into Godzilla while Shin is the result of a nuclear waste eating creature that somehow fuse with Goro Maki to turn into Godzilla. Hideaki Anno really turned Godzilla into a new road with new possible plot in the story.
Shin Godzilla is what I call an ACTUAL monster movie, monsters are SUPPOSE to be scary, horrific, nightmare fuel, and things that makes little kids cry in fear, that’s EXACTLY what shin Godzilla is, just like the original 1954 gojira was.
The face in the tail and the creatures by the end represent the ever mutating G-Cells. The blood coagulate only stopped the body, while his G-Cells in the tail are active. I just love Shin.
Also add to disprove the "mouth" during the final fight. The mouth beam has a loud high pitch sound, but the tail beam has the same sound effects as the back beams, a deeper crackling sound. If there was a "mouth" at the end of the tail then it would have had the same sound as the mouth beam
Not really. The structure of the two faces (assuming it is a face in the tail) are different. They aren't exact clones of each other. It's not surprising that they would make two different noises. The pitch would change. It's like how if you blow into a straw with different diameters, they make different sounds...maybe...it's 5am and I never even seen this movie what am I doing...
not everyone enjoys debating the best ingredients of tea to use in a molecular compound of police records of unsolved mysteries concerning different variations in species of wombats.
"There's not a face in the tail. As you can see, NO FACE. No face in the tail. Here you can see, NO face in the tail. Still no face in the tail! Showcasing in THIS scene... NO face in the tail. Here we MAY have a face in the tail, but not THIS scene...." Jesus fucking Christ, why did I watch this whole thing?
There's no face in the tail, except when there is. Because you can clearly see in this scene there is a face, but there's no evidence of a face. Now look at this beam, it turns into a flame just like his mouth, but there's no mouth in the tail. Clearly they meant for there to be a face BUT ONLY ON ONE SIDE OF THE TAIL, but there's no MOUTH. In this scene you can see the tail is flat, no face. But in the face, there's a scene where you can see the tail face tail beam face face...does anyone smell burning hair?
Damn,. Not gonna be mean or anything but you did so many repetitions on your notions to the point you kinda lost me on some parts.. Thinking about it. This could just be a 10min or so... I know you want to *emphasize* it but overdoing is is... well nevermind... at least your thought got across, I guess. Here have a like.
"So you can clearly see theres a face on the tail, I know what you're thinking, I just said there was no face on the tail, but the face on the tail evolves through the movie, theres no face on the tale at the start, but through the face on the tail, the face on the tail face on the tail face on the tail face on the tail face on the tail" FOR 20 FUCKIN MINUTES
13:00 If the tail were a mouth, which it is, the beam would not be "half of a beam", as the beam is actually generated from his throat, not the mouth itself, the shape of the mouth would not affect the beam. The tail is clearly a mouth due the beam behaving uniquely like the one from his main mouth and not the photons from his spines.
Exactly what I was thinking. Even if it had half a mouth formed, it would still be considereed an "atomic breath" because it is generated from the throat. and the shape of the mouth does not change the nature of the beam. It also has the same effect of the beam turning into flame before going out, instead of photons-to-nothing--the tail's beam behaves eaxctly like an Atomic Breath.
his tail is a fetus!!! I mean why else would the face not show any kind of definition until further maturity? And I know your argument for it only being half of a face makes it not a face but that is not an argument. If you took away half of my face would I still have a face? Yes! And the only reason we don't see any type of facial features in the first two stages is because they are underdeveloped and hidden beneath what is visible, like a fetus.
Phred Bishop no. the mouth shows up after godzilla being frozen by the coagullant (or something like that, i don't know how to spell it), not before, that's why the tail is cracked a little bit at the end, he even shows it on the video. the coagullant might kill godzilla, that's why his body is developing something to counter that. that something is the face on his tail. maybe it's a new body that will emerge from his tail that immune to the coagullant, or maybe that face can make godzilla live again by doing something like shooting breath that counter the coagullant symptons. even if you say that it's because he's matured, the godzilla before being frozen is already matured enough, so why doesn't the face developed when he's still healthy? he is frozen before the face shows up. how can something gives birth while it's own body is frozen to death? for the humanoid like godzilla, it's from the japanese guy's DNA. at least that what he's saying on the video.
My theory was that the face was inside the whole time. But, it was an inner layer and that the skin is just deteriorating so that it could potenetially start as a new gojira
I disagree with your point of the scene far away showing a balled up tail and a closer shot showing humanoids indicating that a time jump has occurred. I would say that the distance of the first shot would prevent anyone from seeing such specific details.
yeah i was going to say the same thing, also a massive portion of this video could have been cut down by just saying the tail has a vestigial face, way too much going over and over how has a face but is not alive.
14:01 No. The "obvious difference" is that the one shot is very far away, and the other shot is literally right up on Godzilla where more detail is evident.
14:44 LOL what? They sell subtle variations in figures all the time. They didn't have to put that in there. Toy companies often get more behind the scenes stuff than the general public for reference.
To me, I dont think of it as an obsession. He just wants clear the the whole "tail" argument and repeats himself to make sure people understand. Hence the vids time rate of 20mins.
13:46 No shit there's no evidence of the creatures! The camera's so far away that can't see shit! Hell, there could've been a guy dancing on Godzilla's head for all we know.
The tail, the face in the tail at 1:28:31 in the US release (online streamed version on Amazon), is literally Goro Maki, the rebel japanese PHd biologist that disappeared from the boat at the very beginning of the movie. When the 3rd form creature looks at its tail after the helicopters break off due to civilians present, Godzilla is somehow remembering Maki's human observations, or Maki is somehow a separate part of its consciousness, telling the creature it is not yet strong enough and needs to run away from the helicopters. So it runs away. It seemed like it might have looked at its tail, where later there is direct allusion to the presence of Doctor Maki (the dialogue about the doctor cutting to a view of the tail and the 'jaw' moving on it at 1:28:30 into the movie). The end shot to me makes the doctor somehow merging with the creature even more likely as a source of the human body form seen on the tail. "But just what did Maki do in the end?" indeed!
AlohaMilton your theory is good, but on the 3rd form, when you refered to it looking at its tail, it was looking back and probably wondering why it was glowing the way it was on the back. It ran because it was overheating because of the ammount of nuclear energy it had, so it ran back to the ocean because otherwise it would have overheated and melted down (sorta like godzilla in godzilla vs destroyer or destroyah). Otherwise its a good theory
and it needed a temporary coolant before it evolved its own, the water provided enough cooling to restablilize him and then he re-appeared with his own coolant in place and was completely evolved for both land and water unlike his previous forms
I like it, but it would still fit better with another monster. It just was so out of character for Godzilla, I mean merging with everything, absorbing memories, rapidly mutating and changing... feels more like John Carpenter's The Thing...
Two Godzilla's? That's crazy. For some reason it makes me think of the two brains in Godzilla but I know this is an entirely new design. Japan does monsters very well.
This is why I believe Shin Godzilla is the most dangerous version of Godzilla. Sure it isn't as powerful as other forms or as durable. At least not right now. Given enough time, Shin would be nigh unkillable, constantly evolving. Another big bad nearly beats it with physical power? Shin would evolve to be able to overpower the other physically, or be durable enough to the point where it doesn't take much damage. Someone to durable for his atomic breath? An upgrade point into it, or a new attack that can beat it. It just keeps going.
i mean biollante is literally unkillable and survived in space. destroyah is also very hard to kill since he can split when near death and reform after he heals
My favorite part of Shin Godzilla is his skin. Godzilla In 1954 was originally designed to have skin that looked like keloid scars/burns. I think they nailed it. The fact that they created an unsettling, different, yet still classic Godzilla speaks to the genius of his design.
He evolves to combat what has previously hurt him/been an inconvenience. I read an article that theorized the humanoid creatures in the tail and it essentially said, “If a committee is able to overcome Godzilla, then Godzilla will become the committee.” So, essentially, if a group of humans could take down Godzilla temporarily, then Godzilla needs to become a group of humans, himself, in order to fight back. There’s also some credence to the fact that he acquired the human/humanoid DNA/humanoid evolving ability from Goro, the scientist that was studying Godzilla and who eventually killed himself by jumping into the ocean. If Godzilla encountered Goro while he was in the ocean, then he likely retained some of that human DNA/evolving ability, hence why we very briefly see the jaws in the tail right after the scene where the scientists are discussing what ended up happening to Goro Maki. I assume that it was meant to insinuate that Goro was essentially absorbed by Godzilla.
Man Hideaki Ano and Shinji Higuchi really leaned heavily on their experience with NGE and End of Eva for this film. Everything from the music, to the drama, to Godzilla himself is profoundly influenced by the their work at Gainax. In particular the design of Shin Godzilla (in his looks and abilities) is clearly pulling from the design of the Angels, with it's otherworldly and body horror aesthetics. The unstoppable nature of Shin Godzilla is also reminiscent of the power of the angels from NGE, who (just like Shin Godzilla) were impervious to modern weapons (missiles bullets, etc.) It's like Shin Godzilla is the Angel that Hideaki Ano never got to make-- I love it!! Edit: I would really love a sequel directed by these two, there is so much potential with this iteration of Godzilla.
Jack, you’re not wrong. I started counting how many times he said “face in the tail” and he was at 14 by the 5 minute mark. Just finished the video and he said it 38 times by the end. Can’t wait to start the drinking games for this xD
I have a theory, if you look at 3:49, you see there's a jaw inside the face of the tail. If you look at 15:09, you see that jaw inside the tail. They are the same mouths. It's just it's detached due to the humanoid creatures. Also, The mouth in 15:09, for me resembles a lower jaw of Godzilla 1998. So what if, as the humanoid creatures come out, Shin Godzilla becomes something similar to Godzilla 1998? Just a theory. Don't take this seriously.
I bet this guy is fun at parties. Twenty minutes expounding a theory, of which eighteen minutes have passed since the girl left the conversation. At night, laying in bed, staring at the ceiling, wondering, "where did I lose her?"

The humanoid forms clearly makes sense with regards to how he evolves. He changes his form to achieve one to survive / defeat his biggest existential threat at the time. Being a giant monster is clearly not working, humans have managed to hurt him and treated his existence repeatedly. So best way to combat them? Become like them.
This is my first time hearing anything about this shin godzilla movie... Is there going to be a continuation? Cause a bunch of humanoid godzillas..that sounds so good.
This isn't an explanation as the title implies. It's simply a theory. TLDW A fan theory that has yet to be proven and really isn't worth wasting 20 minutes of your life for.
Joseph the only thing that annoys me is this guy's voice with his repetitive abysmal "that's not a mouth." "No indication there is a mouth." Around 100 times. It's redundantly annoying.
Godzilla was originally made to be the dead from the atomic bombs we dropped on Japan in WW2. I think the humanoids coming off of Godzilla are the dead people from the bombings. For the face in the tail maybe it's a play on radiation causing tumors that have developed teeth, sense we know that can happen in real life.
Dude in the beginning of this video I created my own theory for the face on the tail and it was the exact same thing you said about goromakis DNA in the tail. Great video bro keep up the good work.
Inside the tail is a skull, that skull is one of those humanoids but giant, that giant humanoid will evolve to another Godzilla and it can also fire the atomic breath. That giant humanoid will go on as another Godzilla. Tell me if I’m wrong doesn’t it make sense? The tail opens up to see a mouth, but this means the tail DOESNT have a mouth the thing inside the tail has a mouth.

Shin doesn’t take DNA from another, he just evolves and reacts and adapts depending on the environment. Cuz it’s evolution, that’s how it works

that moment when you havent seen Shin Gojira and are so confused as to why Godzilla looks like he was microwaved
Because for all intents and purposes, he has. Exposure to intense amounts of radiation basically microwaves from the inside out. Kamata-kun's bleeding gills also references the severe bleeding experienced by victims of high-level radiation poisoning.

The fact that he's gonna have infinitely-spawning mini-Shin's tramping around with him doesn't help matters in the slightest.
if a committe defeated Godzilla, Godzilla will become a committe.
Someone said no one can kill shin because it keep evolving even when it cool down so the strategy are going to failed anyway because of that
The only way to win against Shin is not to fight it. The best thing they could've done was to lull it to sleep/wear it out by the end of the film, contain it on some spacecraft and launch it into deep orbit as fast as possible, and even then there's so many variables that could go wrong there's *no way* they could've determined that at the time.

Anno being Anno is exactly why the tip of that tail is something to worry about.

You sound all over the place, you're not making any sense, and you're countering an argument no one has ever made.
'There's not going to be THIS open of an ending."
...Anno's not doing Godzilla right now, he's back to Evangelion, even though his fans said they'd be happy to wait. The next one isn't related so far as we can tell. No announcement for either Evangelion 4.0 or Godzilla #31 is forth coming, so a prediction for a Shin Godzilla 2 is, at this time, really has no basis and is pure speculation.
"It's Goro Maki's DNA."
YES.
Malyssa Trouble I like godzilla better why are there human hybrids now
It's clear to me from my first viewing that Maki initialised Godzilla's sudden current evolution in this film by somehow introducing himself to the creature's genetics.
That is HIS stylistic choice.
ya but a half face still counts as a face.
Rizwan Fariz because of the consumption of human DNA, this godzilla can mutate, and adapt so fast, because of its ability to use the DNA of organisms that he eats! They do explain that on the movie!

Also add to disprove the "mouth" during the final fight. The mouth beam has a loud high pitch sound, but the tail beam has the same sound effects as the back beams, a deeper crackling sound. If there was a "mouth" at the end of the tail then it would have had the same sound as the mouth beam
godzilla 154 true

Isn't 'half a beam' just a smaller beam anyway?
+Aaron Davidson cool TH-cam photo :)
I don't see a face on the tail.
Action figure: oh their it is.
his tail is a fetus!!!
Phred Bishop that sounds legit
Phred Bishop
Phred Bishop
It was implied something was going on with the tail earlier before being frozen in the ending when it split and fired that beam.
what if Godzilla shot himself in the back of the head with the tail XD

I disagree with your point of the scene far away showing a balled up tail and a closer shot showing humanoids indicating that a time jump has occurred. I would say that the distance of the first shot would prevent anyone from seeing such specific details.

@AlohaMilton I have a question though. How did goro get into Godzilla? Did Godzilla eat him or something like that?
Matt blacker yeah, there is a theory about that. It's that the first form eats him for whatever reason, and I think that's the whole theory.

Japan does monsters very well.
half a beam would still look like a beam. its not like having one busted headlight.

It just keeps going.
theb1ackdawn the desutractive godzilla is godzilla earth
i mean biollante is literally unkillable and survived in space. destroyah is also very hard to kill since he can split when near death and reform after he heals

If Godzilla 2014 fights Shin Godzilla.
Shin Godzilla vs Batman and both have prep time. Does one win or is it just an eternal stalemate?
My favorite part of Shin Godzilla is his skin. Godzilla In 1954 was originally designed to have skin that looked like keloid scars/burns. I think they nailed it. The fact that they created an unsettling, different, yet still classic Godzilla speaks to the genius of his design.
Wait, wait, wait. Let me get this straight, are you trying to say that there is no face in the tail?
Yes and no and quite maybe possibly or not.
Here's my theory:
After Shin Gojira turn to stone everything shutdown except his evolving state so he can produce humanoid even when his body shutdown
Why would a non-human create humans? They should be lizard-like surely.
I swear if I had a nickel for every time he says "tail" or "face"
Man Hideaki Ano and Shinji Higuchi really leaned heavily on their experience with NGE and End of Eva for this film. Everything from the music, to the drama, to Godzilla himself is profoundly influenced by the their work at Gainax. In particular the design of Shin Godzilla (in his looks and abilities) is clearly pulling from the design of the Angels, with it's otherworldly and body horror aesthetics. The unstoppable nature of Shin Godzilla is also reminiscent of the power of the angels from NGE, who (just like Shin Godzilla) were impervious to modern weapons (missiles bullets, etc.)
It's like Shin Godzilla is the Angel that Hideaki Ano never got to make-- I love it!!
Edit: I would really love a sequel directed by these two, there is so much potential with this iteration of Godzilla.

I have a theory,
if you look at 3:49, you see there's a jaw inside the face of the tail. If you look at 15:09, you see that jaw inside the tail. They are the same mouths. It's just it's detached due to the humanoid creatures.
Also,
The mouth in 15:09, for me resembles a lower jaw of Godzilla 1998. So what if, as the humanoid creatures come out, Shin Godzilla becomes something similar to Godzilla 1998?
