The English rendition of "Save The Earth" (the opening) is embedded in my memory since childhood. That movie had so many eerie scenes that I never forgot. I remember for instance feeling scared for the kid when Hedora came out of the water and he lifted his knife up, and his knife sliced through the monster. The effect on me was probably greater because I was that age so always had an association with the boys in the godzilla movies. Growing up in queens New York, I played in places like that - where the water wasn't the cleanest - or other urban settings. I was the latch-key introverted kid just like the boy in Godzilla's Revenge. Being of the same age and the same time it was so easy for me to connect with these movies. Anyone from my generation understands this yet it's impossible to share it with with others because they don't understand the appeal of those early movies for the kids of that day. .

Excellent top 10 list and these are absolutely great suggestions....I just would have put Godzilla 2000 somewhere on that list. It is simply a great introductory film for Godzilla that has a classic, straightforward, Godzilla centric plot-line. It is one of the entries that works well for younger and older audiences. It is sort of the prototypical Godzilla movie that checks all of the boxes that any non-fan would expect from one of these films. It also works as a great double feature with Godzilla 1998, not in the sense that it is a continuation of that movie or connected to it in any way(although it is fun to imagine that baby growing up and mutating into G2K)....but in the sense that it is almost a direct answer to everything that film missed about Godzilla. Puts Godzilla front and center right off the bat, spaces him out well throughout the film, has a classic sequence of the military throwing everything at Godzilla and failing, and finds a way to be a 'Solo Godzilla movie' while also making room for him to fight a giant monster at the end.
I strongly agree 🙂Godzilla 2000 was my first real Godzilla film that I ever watched and loved truly in regards to Godzilla and Godzilla movies in general
G2000 is severally underrated. Easily one of the better movies as a whole. Most G movies have a lot of skippable parts but that one is great from beginning to end. Orga was a great bad guy. Plus, the new G suit was bad fucking ass!
I like how many interpretations there are for Shindo's final scene. It really says a lot that it can be read in so many different ways. I take the position that Godzilla _does_ recognize Shindo on some level or another and that Shindo went in fully accepting or a least at peace with dieing by Godzilla's hand. Godzilla remembers and has some connection with Shindo, but he's been consumed by so much rage and pain since Shindo left that he can't look past that. Shindo, on the other hand, regrets leaving the godzillasuras. First for just leaving him he to die, then for knowing both the pain he inadvertently led Godzilla into and for all the death and destruction Godzilla's caused. He leaves his fate, the decision to pay for his "crimes" or not, in Godzilla's hands. And Godzilla knows him and sits in judgment of him. He may not feel Shindo _should_ die, but Godzilla's own circumstances won't let Godzilla let Shindo live. I find it touching and sad and really well done.
To be fair, Godzilla vs Biollante is underrated at least in the English speaking subset of the fandom largely because the movie wasn't accessible in the states until very recently unless you wanted to pirate it or try and get a Japanese copy.
how i get people into the movies is just most of the time the same answer: if you wanna try Godzilla and see if it's something for you watch any of the Heisei Era. Favorite ones: Godzilla vs Biollante/ Godzilla vs Destroyah.
Shin and GMK are the two I most often show to my friends when trying to show them why I love Godzilla so much. Shin has that original Gojira mood while confronting modern issues, and GMK has great monster fights and interesting themes.
@Up From The Depths - Captain Obvious here. I was one-year-old when Gojira came to the Japanese screens. I believe that you forgot, god knows why, the original.
Godzilla portrayed as a force of nature is really one of the best things. Godzilla has tipped against nature, such as in Shin, and for the balance of nature, such as in the 2014 movie. I like that he isn't portrayed as for or against people in that one, and wonder if some of the bad guys get "corrected" by Godzilla in King of the Monsters.
Thank you for making the point that it's ok for Godzilla movies to be fun and stupid or dark and serious. I wish more people had that kind of open mind and appreciation for a healthy and realistic balance in life.
I've been watching them on an archive website, I found them by googling the title with "archive" after it. Here's a link to one: archive.org/details/KINGKONGVS.GODZILLA1962JapaneseVersionHD
Godzilla vs. Biollante is a very underrated film and I am happy he picked it as his #1. The special effects are great, influenced me as a kid to get into sculpture, and it still holds up well today. Has a great message in it as well!
Yeah, really gotta give Ikufube mad props for all his amazing work. And Shin Godzilla brings back many of my favorite tracks from across the whole series.
i think your wildly under estimating how popular classic godzilla is world wide, most people of adult age have seen a Toho godzilla movie at one point or another throughout their lives- the most common ones being Ghidora the three headed monster, the original 1954 Godzilla, and the Terror of Mechagodzilla. That doesnt even go into the other fan favorites like 1961's Mothra or my own personal favorite Rodan 1956. The point is, people all around the world know and love the Toho Godzilla, not the US versions. Most people dont count the 1998 US version to be Godzilla at all, the "Legendary Pictures" one was very good, but still not the original. However alot of fans were disappointed with the "Shin Godzilla" movie....it was just bad, Toho needs to go back to formula and not try and 'reinvent' a classic.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I disagree on Shin Godzilla being "top 3"...I hated it, but that's me. I did, however, like this list. Godzilla v. MechaGodzilla 1 was my first Godzilla film, and most favorite. It is my #1 Godzilla movie to introduce anyone to the franchise, other than original!
Godzilla 1985 will always be my favorite. Its the one i first saw as a kid and i can still remember renting it from the Library and video store anytime i could get my hands on it. Overall, great video and great top 10 list. Cant wait to see what you do with the new one coming out in a few days!
So I may be a little late to post on this, but I really enjoyed your top 10. Most of the ones here are also some of my favorites. My top 10 would have to be: Godzilla vs. Destroyah, Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Biolante, Godzilla vs. Gigan, Godzilla vs. Megalon, King Kong vs. Godzilla, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, Godzilla vs. Mecha Godzilla II, Godzilla (1985) and finally, my first Godzilla movie; Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah so I chose these for my top 10 since these were the only 10 movies I have seen growing up. I have seen more of the series, but never owned them unlike these ones
@@dfhellraiser4td I actually read on article on "lamest to coolest" Godzilla monsters that said Gigan is better than any of the movies he appears in... and that's kind of perfect. He was ranked #5, by the way.
Godzilla Vs Gigan Is Better Than Most of These I Love Godzilla KTM,Spiderman Homecoming, Godzilla Final Wars, Star Wars Return Of the Jedi,And Godzilla Vs Gigan Yeah I Love Godzilla Vs Gigan my Life Is Angurius And Gigan
I see the length of the video and think "oh man. Too long for me to sit through". Then when it ends I'm like "it's over already?!" I probably would've switched out Final Wars and Megalon for Monster Zero and Hedorah. As many times as I've watched Final Wars, for some reason it didn't resonate with me. Even though it's an all star kaiju cast, they were all disposed of too quickly, as you mentioned. And, those actors almost give me a headache. Not the characters, the cast choices. Plus, some of the suit designs looked way too much like a human wearing a costume. Gigan, specifically. I always loved the Hedorah character. Especially its origin story. Even though that movie is flawed big time, Godzilla the hero vs the smog monster-alien really zeroed in on Godzilla as savior. Great video. Well worth the time spent watching. Looking forward to more.
Funny how as a kid the return of Godzilla was like a horrormovie to me... but Biollante is still the most serious and badass looking Godzilla movies beside Shin and the Legendary Godzilla movies. Biollante gives me serious nightmares that days!
My list: 10. Godzilla's Revenge 9. Godzilla vs. Megalon 8. Son of Godzilla 7. Invasion of Astro Monster 6. Godzilla vs. Hedorah 5. Godzilla vs. Megaguirus 4. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah 3. Godzilla 2000 2. Godzilla vs. Biollante 1. Godzilla vs. Gigan
I personally liked Godzilla vs Mothra: Battle for Earth. The story was somewhat similar to the original but added Battra, and gave her more backstory. That and the suits in the 90s just looked so much better in my opinion.
I consider Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster a significant film in the overall Godzilla series. Introducing fans and viewers to Godzilla's arch nemesis as well as the more heroic aspect to the character we'd come to know as the 60's progressed. As far as favourites go, Mothra vs Godzilla, Son of Godzilla, Godzilla 2000, and the og, Gojira.
Rather than being released in American theatres, Godzilla vs Megalon premiered in the US by NBC on television. I watched this event when I was seven years old in 1976. John Belushi dressed in a Godzilla costume provided commentary at the commercial breaks. It had to be seen to be believed. It is too bad none of the Belushi footage survived.

I agree
I strongly agree 🙂Godzilla 2000 was my first real Godzilla film that I ever watched and loved truly in regards to Godzilla and Godzilla movies in general
G2000 is severally underrated. Easily one of the better movies as a whole. Most G movies have a lot of skippable parts but that one is great from beginning to end. Orga was a great bad guy. Plus, the new G suit was bad fucking ass!
Kind of wished 98 had two Godzillas or another monster to fight. Like one Godzilla is killed on the bridge but then a bigger, stronger one shows up.
It was also in some US theaters too I think.
The best was Dave Chappell v. Godzilla
Run!!! It's Blackzilla!!!
YEAH! Blackzilla FTW!
Bambi, was a fight, to remember, too.
Godzilla v king kong will always hold a special place in my heart. I got that VHS when I was like 8 and watched it non stop
Im sorry it doesnt get much worse than godzilla vs megalon?....*godzillas revenge would like to know your location*
That laugh...... (You know what monster I mean)
To be fair, Godzilla vs Biollante is underrated at least in the English speaking subset of the fandom largely because the movie wasn't accessible in the states until very recently unless you wanted to pirate it or try and get a Japanese copy.
Whenever I want to introduce someone to the Godzilla series I always start with Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II. It's never failed me.
Imo that's the weakest mecha godzilla movie by far, very boring
how i get people into the movies is just most of the time the same answer: if you wanna try Godzilla and see if it's something for you watch any of the Heisei Era.
Favorite ones: Godzilla vs Biollante/ Godzilla vs Destroyah.
Godzilla Heisei era is my personal favorite too! Godzilla vs Destoroyah is the greatest Godzilla Film IMO

Godzilla Vs Gigan Cries As He Is Better THAN Godzilla Returns
Of Course My Opinion Though
Long live the King.....!!!
Shin and GMK are the two I most often show to my friends when trying to show them why I love Godzilla so much. Shin has that original Gojira mood while confronting modern issues, and GMK has great monster fights and interesting themes.
respect. althpough i like Legendary Gojira more, Shin Gojira is really decent. I want to see it fight destoroyah or another monster besides him
Like if this channel creator/narrator has one of the best voices for docu-style videos.
@Up From The Depths - Captain Obvious here. I was one-year-old when Gojira came to the Japanese screens. I believe that you forgot, god knows why, the original.
Why does nobody seem to like king ceasar as much as I do, he is amazing
Godzilla portrayed as a force of nature is really one of the best things. Godzilla has tipped against nature, such as in Shin, and for the balance of nature, such as in the 2014 movie. I like that he isn't portrayed as for or against people in that one, and wonder if some of the bad guys get "corrected" by Godzilla in King of the Monsters.
Godzilla lets Anguirus, Rodan and King Caesar live in Final Wars.
NIP wait they lost the suits for those 3?
@NIP hahahaha!!! ae you serious!?!?! omg too funny
@NIP so the robbers showed up with the customs at a fest? We're they locked up by police or what happened? Lol
@NIP how you know the effects of the mind control wore off after anguirus and his friends got knocked out??
Thank you for making the point that it's ok for Godzilla movies to be fun and stupid or dark and serious. I wish more people had that kind of open mind and appreciation for a healthy and realistic balance in life.
Jet Jaguar is the Jar Jar Binks of the Monsterverse.
King Kong VS Godzilla is #8 ??? Not even NOT EVEN ! Top 3 WITHOUT A DOUBT ! :)
My favorite Godzilla movie is Godzilla vs Hedora, it’s just been the one I had the easiest access to and I thoroughly enjoyed the action and whatnot
I just discovered your channel. Our tastes are resonating. This list cemented it. Biollante at #1? Yes. Hell yes. Keep up the good work!
The two that I watched most as a kid were "Godzilla 1985" and "Godzilla vs. Mothra." So good!
G vs Kong was an abomination, you need to take another look at how awful those production values were.
Where can 1 watch these Godzilla films or find them
I've been watching them on an archive website, I found them by googling the title with "archive" after it. Here's a link to one: archive.org/details/KINGKONGVS.GODZILLA1962JapaneseVersionHD
Godzilla vs. Biollante is a very underrated film and I am happy he picked it as his #1. The special effects are great, influenced me as a kid to get into sculpture, and it still holds up well today. Has a great message in it as well!
If nothing else, the soundtrack from Godzilla vs. Biollante is great. One of my favorites to not really heavily on the main Godzilla themes.
8:03 That book was my childhood as well. I always checked out books from that series at the school library.
space godzilla?
My favorite is 2019 2014 final wars
Yeah, really gotta give Ikufube mad props for all his amazing work. And Shin Godzilla brings back many of my favorite tracks from across the whole series.
Surprised Godzilla 2000 wasn't included, but I get it. Might be too "vanilla" for this list.
...or, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla; Godzilla Tokyo SOS; Godzilla Vs SpaceGodzilla; Godzilla Vs Megaguirus; Godzilla 1998.
@@oldrocker74 1998 is good as a monster movie not as a goji movie
Godzilla vs Biollante is my actual favorite, and my first film I ever watched in the franchise. The poster art is also awesome.
i think your wildly under estimating how popular classic godzilla is world wide, most people of adult age have seen a Toho godzilla movie at one point or another throughout their lives- the most common ones being Ghidora the three headed monster, the original 1954 Godzilla, and the Terror of Mechagodzilla.
Shatter Star I’m in the same boat. Godzilla 1985 will always be the pinnacle. I still have it on VHS. 😂
Here here
Kong vs Godzilla will always be my favorite, the fight scene is hilarious. Terror of Mega Godzilla is a close one though.
what? Shin and 14 sucks. king of the monsters, vs desatroia anf gnk r the best and 98, destry all monsters and vs hedora r realy fun
Thank you for loving G vs Megalon for its sheer dumbness.
It might be the first time I've ever heard a Godzilla fan wholeheartedly endorse that movie.
I endorse any movie with Gigan! Probably my favorite bad guy!
@@dfhellraiser4td I actually read on article on "lamest to coolest" Godzilla monsters that said Gigan is better than any of the movies he appears in... and that's kind of perfect. He was ranked #5, by the way.
@@FlyingFocs sounds about right!
Godzilla Vs Gigan Is Better Than Most of These I Love Godzilla KTM,Spiderman Homecoming, Godzilla Final Wars, Star Wars Return Of the Jedi,And Godzilla Vs Gigan
Yeah I Love Godzilla Vs Gigan my Life Is Angurius And Gigan
'Destroy All Monsters' to this day is still my favorite Godzilla film.
Yyyyaaaaasss !!! I’m glad u added in Godzilla vs megalon ... thanks 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
No Godzilla raids again? That one was my favorite
"dinosaur" ?
I always had a thing for biolante... great movie. Also loved Godzilla returns.
I see the length of the video and think "oh man. Too long for me to sit through". Then when it ends I'm like "it's over already?!"
I probably would've switched out Final Wars and Megalon for Monster Zero and Hedorah.
Some people are not gonna agree with me but i think Godzilla Tokyo S.O.S. is a must watch
Funny how as a kid the return of Godzilla was like a horrormovie to me...
but Biollante is still the most serious and badass looking Godzilla movies beside Shin and the Legendary Godzilla movies. Biollante gives me serious nightmares that days!
Big 3 heavyweights king Gadora head 1 2 and 3
jesus, i cant stop cringing at that dropkick...
If you think that's bad you should see the scene where he flies...
@@warhawk2121 Cinema's finest moment.
Can't believe what number 1 is. She's my favorite Kaiju.
Yup.
My list:
10. Godzilla's Revenge
9. Godzilla vs. Megalon
8. Son of Godzilla
7. Invasion of Astro Monster
6. Godzilla vs. Hedorah
5. Godzilla vs. Megaguirus
4. Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
3. Godzilla 2000
2. Godzilla vs. Biollante
1. Godzilla vs. Gigan
Hedorah doesn't get nearly enough love!
I watched Godzilla V Megalon so many times as a kid.
Godzilla vs Megalon
Wow, I need to go watch Godzilla vs Biollante now.
I personally liked Godzilla vs Mothra: Battle for Earth. The story was somewhat similar to the original but added Battra, and gave her more backstory. That and the suits in the 90s just looked so much better in my opinion.
I would put Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II instead of the original 1974 version but good list.
The Godzilla Jr arcs are always the best movies.
lizard not dinosaur
Thank you. Now I am binge watching Godzilla videos.
I love Godzilla vs Biollante. It does everything that I want from a Godzilla film, and its special effects are some of the best in any movie.
I consider Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster a significant film in the overall Godzilla series. Introducing fans and viewers to Godzilla's arch nemesis as well as the more heroic aspect to the character we'd come to know as the 60's progressed.
As far as favourites go, Mothra vs Godzilla, Son of Godzilla, Godzilla 2000, and the og, Gojira.
ive always had an interest in godzilla, but somehow actually ended up watching mostly mothra films, so this really helps!!
U seriuosly have to update this list now with Godzilla Minus one 😂😂😂
I thought I was the only one who loved Biollante (did I spell that right?)! This is a great list!
alot of people didnt see it sadly
@@zeroiceice008 That's too bad. It was such a creative monster. Pretty darn scary, in fact!!
This just tells you how bad the 1998 Godzilla with Jean Reno was.
Yeah that was my introduction to Godzilla as a teen. :P
I loved 98.
1998 Godzilla gets too much hate and I where being honest with my self..... I enjoyed 1998 way more than KoTM.
@@MrAte-uo7yo yeah me too
@@MrAte-uo7yo It's a decent movie on its own, but it's not GODZILLA, just some random iguana
When I was a kid we would watch old Godzilla and Gamera movies. I liked the 2014 and look forward to seeing king of the monsters.
So it's more like the 13 Must Watch Godzilla Movies, then.
