    Very helpful. I was just looking up how to add a frame to my photos, and here you are showing us how to do it. Adding a frame is one way I’m finding my style when it comes to editing my photos. I believe adding a frame gives it that photo look and not just a picture look. Thanks 🙏

    UPDATE: The Image Frame trick only works if the Layer is (image) not (pixel) ;) - To get a /image) layer, don't open the image directly. Instead create a new file and then place the image in there.

    Another great & helpful video, Olivio; thank you! I’m curious if you could show us another trick: working with (organizing) lots of photos. Let’s say you come out of a shoot & have 100 photos to sort through & decide which ones are good to use. I know LightRoom is very good at this. Does Affinity Photo have a similar feature? If not, how do you do it? Is there a better app? Thanks in advance!

    This is helpful! But I have a question. On the last trick, if you wanted to make an empty oval, not a solid ellipse, could you do it with the round marquis tool and get the same effect without the color distortion? I have been trying to make a fuzzy vignette oval around a picture and the color distorts no matter what I try to do., thank you, Rose

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a older video. You can now avoid that color distortion for the most part, by dragging the mask on in between the thumbnail and the layer name, so you get the short blue line indicator.

    Olivio - I'm about to a new camera - will I be able to edit the Raw files in Affinity Photo or will I need a Raw converter or a program like Capture One to do that. I currently use Adobe Bridge Adobe Raw Converter and Adobe Photoshop but don't want to use Adobe anymore.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark, RAW editing is definitely supported. Here is a list of the Cameras and Lenses that will work well with Affinity Photo: forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/73699-faq-list-of-supported-raw-cameras-17x-for-desktop-lens-correction-list/

    Thanks a lot for sharing these tips. Some of them will be greatly helpful. One issue though - I can't see the line buttons in my toolbar. How can I make them visible?

  • @moreorlesslikeso
    @moreorlesslikeso 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd rather not split the handles with alt/ctrl as you did in these places you chose as this actually creates a corner point and it is no longer guaranteed that the curve runs smoothly through that point. If you're not VERY careful you may very easily produce a (visible) kink in the curve which - mathematically speaking - is no longer continuous at that point. If a point is on a mathematically continuous curve its handles should ALWAYS be of that seesaw type which any "curve point" (as opposed to a corner point) initially has.

  • @v14211

    Question, how do I get my line tool? I'm in the Photo Persona, but instead of it saying I'mage, it says Pan. The only information I have is the photo and camrea information.

    How do I get the 8 blue circles on the outside of the image (in the frame creation part)?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stratos. Those are called handles and you should usually see them when you are using the selection Move Tool. I you don't see them, zoom out to see if maybe you image is a lot bigger than the canvas. Also make sure you actually have selected the right layer and that layer is not locked (little lock icon richt side of the layer)

    The idea of the frame creation was one I thought might be valuable. Unfortunately, no instruction was made as to how to find the Line Tool. The only thing I could see (and most icons etc are very blurry on my screen so a lot of guess work is involved) was the move/transform icon but when selecting that, the items on the row above are nothing related to what appears to be needed related to the Line Tool. Maybe there is an instruction step missing or my Beta Version does not have this option. Any assistance would be appreciated. TIA

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, if the Video looks blurry to you, you need to change the playback quality. Because this is recorded in 1080p 60fps - so you see exactly what I see. If you look in the Left Bar with all the tools, the only tool that is highlighted while I am working with the line tool is the line tool :) - If you don't see it, look for a little white arrow icon, click and hold that to reveal the Line Tool - some tools share the same spot.

    • @phlotographer
      @phlotographer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OlivioSarikas as mentioned above, the only icon I could see highlighted is the move/transform (V) and while many tools do have a small down arrow indicating additional hidden options this tool does not offer this on my PC and I don't see the down arrow (at an angle of course) for more options. I am looking at 8:19 on the video so somehow I either am not seeing the icon for the line tool or the move tool is not offering what is required. I also am set to 1080p 60fps HD on YT on a 27" monitor full screen viewing but other than the image being edited, nothing is in focus. I just read the update. Now another question. I have opened a .jpg from camera that opens as a pixel layer (Background) and not an image layer. What is the technique to change this to an image layer or have I messed up something in the program that is opening a .jpg as a pixel layer rather than an image layer. While I have had AP for awhile I just don't recall everything as I also learn about other programs an may have confused myself as to what I should be looking for. Any info most appreciated. TIA
      Oh, thought I would try other images and no matter which .jpg has been selected and I did at least 1/2 doz they all show up as pixel rather than image. Maybe I have something set in settings incorrectly but not sure as even a bit of a search has not revealed an answer.

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@phlotographer Oh, i see, i thought you where talking about another part of my video. If you open a file directly it is already a pixel layer and sadly there is no way to convert it into a image layer (that i know of). But you can create a new document and place a image in there and that will be a image layer :)

    • @phlotographer
      @phlotographer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OlivioSarikas Ok, so I guess I somewhere along the line missed that you created a black layer and then placed the .jpg into that document and then using the move tool to get the line tool to create the frame/border of chosen size. I was trying to create a wordpad document of each step to know how to repeat the process simply. I will have to adjust what I had made to text for this from what I had done. TY. Hope I have understood what to do now.You will find I am rather a stickler for directions that are simple to follow one step at a time in the correct order without missing any steps. I always remember that my clients would arrive and say "you give such good directions". Two weeks ago I could not spell "phlotograher" and now I are one.
