Good stuff here. Ive been in the trades for a while working as a electrcian Ive ran a fair amount of work as formeman on small/mid size commercial TI and ground up. I have seen first hand the games played when you dont cover your ass.
FYI, change orders are subject to audit on government jobs. So, it has to be real material price and labor cost that you have paid + overhead and profit.
Too Good 💎 Sir i am a 29 yr old Hvac site & design engineer in Aec construction industry (air conditioning commercial projects) what type of business should i start which has scope & how could you recommend some tips & books that would be beneficial to read for extracting practical information ?
Hello. If you watch most of his videos he explains almost everything you asked. I myself I’m a union Ironworker. Started a steel company right before the pandemic and went to commercial jobs right away and went out of business. I now live in NJ and started a cleaning company to do government janitorial contracts and simultaneously I’m bidding construction jobs the way he teaches which I never thought of because I told myself I only knew Ironwork. Framing, drywall and paint bid packages. Wish I had found this guy in 2019 😂
Well, for information, don’t buy a book. Join my training program. I laid it out A-Z from start to finish. If I was you, I would build a small team of multiple trades and do interiors packages. I call this being a “Super Sub”. Every 10 bids you submit, you land one. And your contracts will be $100K-200K contracts. And you build your team per job.
Man all the construction videos are about private structure jobs. I do civil engineering projects so I have to deal with the city, state, sometimes even federal organizations. The fights on change orders or T&M are so different than what you're describing. We're basically the sub contractor of the city, but we're the GC. We have 6 sub contractors plus ourselves doing work. So we come with CGs as well as our subcontractors but they come to us. Very confusing and we have to be hypocrites sometimes
Problem is most GC's only care about lowest bids, regardless if you help them out on change orders and if they say "they'll give you the next job"
Damn right they’ll take advantage of you. That’s more money for them

Thanks Fabian! Multiple trades is the way to go! My newest client just landed two jobs back to back for a total of $730K.
