Awesome funk guitar on a Gibson J45. That is a mark of a true musician. Also, you stated that this is not part of the lesson. Seems to me that everything I see on your videos is an important lesson. Thank you Tomo for starting my 2021 with some great inspiration.....

There at 6 minutes in.. playing with metronome banging on 2 and 4, is powerful powerful stuff.- it truly develops time feel, have been doing this for years when practicing, and try to tell people to check it out. It’s magic. Any pocket I have is largely from this (and getting to play with the right drummers) If you can swing a metronome you’re 95% of the way there.

I love that funk stuff . We’re you playing guitar in early 80s? I started 80 81 I turn 55 in oct. But my influences Black Sabbath, priest, scorpions. From watching your videos sounds like you could play for earth wind fire, funkadelic, parliament. Amazing funk playing you create from basic 1 4 5 chords your rhythm right hand is bad ass..You also play jazz stuff way over my head. Im not even trying and learning stuff from watching your vids already. I think it’s because you’ll play through not say anything show exactly what your doing on fretboard. You don’t talk lot, you just play. and that is best thing.. I really appreciate that because Im learning from you fast'!! No turtle

Instead of a metronome, I have a multi effects pedal (ZOOM G1X FOUR) which has dozens of preprogrammed rhythm tracks using real drums, in every style including Jazz, Blues, Country, Funk, and so forth. Of course it also can do just plain metronome. I find I don’t play as well with a metronome, that it’s distracting, but with these drum loops I play much better because it has the feel of the styles of music I’m playing or practicing.

Hi Tomo, your videos here are so helpful. This rhythm lesson is excellent. I have always struggled with rhythm, especially the timing aspect. So that, along with chord melody and smooth seemless transition between chords... both the chords themselves and the lead playing. Getting a better handle on those things is my goal for 2021. You're welcome! Let's say you are playing with a metronome at 120 per beat. Then 60 at 2&4... more room you get, you can play many different feel. Many reasons but you don't need to do anything if you are not into!

I was wondering one thing. I can play certain licks 150 bpm 16th notes, never went past that point. What is the fastest way to increase speed for learning new patterns or licks? I have experimented with 100 bpm metronome at first, so extremely slowly and perfectly. Within few days I could play 100 bpm 8th notes and the speed would come actually pretty fast. Is there a better way or more efficient way to increase speed?

you're the real one out here. I truly love your work from the core of my heart. Thanks for being there and thanks for making this world a better place. Since you're a teacher at berklee and a musician i'd like to ask you..what is it like? Is the struggle as bad?
I recently started playing guitar and i'll be 16 soon. I want to be a musician and live my life delving into the depths of music. I know it's a really hard and tough life but i'm ready for the struggle. It would be of great help if you could suggest as to how i can make it big in this field? also my goal right now is to get into berklee. I've subscribed to your guitar wisdom lessons. How much should i practice? What should i do to get in? and is it possible to get in after only practicing for 2 years? I know these are a lot of questions but if you can be so kind to answer them it can change my life. Thank you!
