This brought back unpleasant childhood memories of me and a group of friends gathered around a huge M-80-type firecracker the day after Independence Day. For some reason, it hadn't detonated and the fuse was gone when we found it. One of us thought it would be a good idea to try to smash it with a hammer. It wasn't a good idea. Our ears were ringing for days. We're lucky that no one was seriously injured or killed.
Once when I was at my grandparents' house, I was unwrapping a bunch of these things into a little dixie cup in their garage. I think it was about half full when the whole thing suddenly exploded, loud enough to cause a short-lasting ringing in my ears and my grandfather to rush out and see if everything was alright. To this day, I don't know exactly why they detonated. My only guess was that the weight of the grains was somehow enough to start the reaction.
***** Eyy, I was like 10. And it wasn't destructive so much as it was loud. I seem to recall that the paper cup was still mostly intact. Fortunately, the experience was frightening enough that I wouldn't ever consider trying it again.
it would seem that the paper is warpped to reduce the affect of going off on its own. now if you unwrap them, they isnt anything to stop/prevent the reaction from happening.
Same thing happened to me as a kid. I was emptying several of them onto a napkin in an attempt to make a jumbo popper. Eventually, the impact of the gravel simply falling onto the existing pile was enough to set the whole thing off which, as others have mentioned, will keep one from entertaining that idea ever again.

The camera won't be affected by the laser unless it's shined directly into it. All cameras have something called a UV/IR cut filter - this protects the camera's sensor.
+Cody'sLab You could also measure the volume of the bead so you know how much silver in it checking the mass, volume and density, how many mL it adds to a waterbody :)
in 6th grade I got a case of 100 boxes and tried to unwrap them all into one bag. i got about 20 boxes in before I accidentally dropped on in the bag of gravel and set the whole thing off. I was deaf for a few hours
Hahaha yea you can set them off in your fingers. I do it quite often. The power of the explosion is absorbed by the gravel and makes it so harmless you can set it off in your hands.

that was the value for the explosive.
+Cody'sLab Can I have the dollar in the background (5:00)
80 micrograms of silver fulminate (AgCNO).
Relative atomic mass of Ag: 107.8682, relative atomic mass of C: 12.011, relative atomic mass of N: 14.007, relative atomic mass of O:15.999.
Molecular mass of AgCNO: 149.8852gmol^-1.
Percentage mass of Ag in AgCNO: 107.8682/149.8852 = 72%
72% of 80 micrograms is 57 micrograms.
You can expect some loss from the explosion too, so about 50 micrograms is a fair estimate.

Silver fulminate has been used for primer, but it's spread so thinly on the gravel that the snappers aren't usable for that purpose.

probably but I saved it for my eyes.
***** ok. Yeah your eyes are more important than a camera
The camera won't be affected by the laser unless it's shined directly into it. All cameras have something called a UV/IR cut filter - this protects the camera's sensor.
Not from blue LASERs.
+Cody'sLab You could also measure the volume of the bead so you know how much silver in it checking the mass, volume and density, how many mL it adds to a waterbody :)
Did you know that the yogscast gave you a shout out?! That's pretty cool.
Seriously?!
Yeah, on Yogscast Duncan's Rising World Episode 1 video at 7:59! Its awesome!
Thanks for the tip!
When was this? I'm subbed but I don't remember this!? Unless I missed it ofc, link?
+Jumpin' Jaggi
Nvm, Found it & I haven't gotten it yet in my feed. (i.e a recent thing, it says the 1st & I'm at the 2nd but timezones eh ).
Great video dude. That was cool to watch the process and loved your enthusiasm. Learned some stuff about chemistry also. Thanks for sharing.

I'm pretty sure he didn't make that.
I have made one but it still isn't very controllable, I bought 2 others off ebay.

This is the fisrt video i watch cody! HES THE BEST
in 6th grade I got a case of 100 boxes and tried to unwrap them all into one bag. i got about 20 boxes in before I accidentally dropped on in the bag of gravel and set the whole thing off. I was deaf for a few hours
You may notice that the gun thing at the end took several attempts.
hahaha.
+BradTheNinjaBreadMan wow Cody I didn't think you would bother with that comment.
I did the same thing. My dog was freaking out
happened to me as well :D was really suprised it got a boom like that.
Cody'sLab - Plating my fingers with silver
Nice equipment to play with. Fun video, well worth the 50 bucks. And I did not know silver was used there.
1:40 number 15, burger king foot poppers
The last thing you want in your burger king poppers is someone's foot fungus, but as it turns out, that might be what you get.
胡子影片來的舉手
You're Logic and Understanding of everything is beyond impressive my friend. Wish I could be your side kick hahaha
1:50 did he pop one of those in his hands? My whole life I’ve been taught not to pop the pop it’s in my hands. My life has been a lie!🙃
Hahaha yea you can set them off in your fingers. I do it quite often. The power of the explosion is absorbed by the gravel and makes it so harmless you can set it off in your hands.
do it, it doesn't hurt. i did it was a kid all the time
"Hi I'm Cody Don, and this is Jackass!"
Of course you’re the only one who has made a video of what I wanted to see! 😂
Are you human

Or are we dancers?
+MinecraftGambit WTF are you saying
+KAAS the killers: human ;)
