The secret is in choosing the right log (straight grained and well seasoned with developed cracks) :) And even so it's not an easy job - the guy is out of breath at the end.
I bought an arvika 5 star a years ago and profiled it for splitting and thinned the handle significantly and it was a game changer for me. I use it for splitting and wedge banging.
He is literally splitting some of the easiest splitting strait grain wood on the planet…I live in western NC and one winter here and you would throw that 8lb door stop in the lake…
@@PNWSawJunkie 22 ton hydraulic wood splitter with a 5 horsepower brigs nothing fancy but is the only way to go with hardwoods…yes you may get by with a big maul with the straight grain knot free stuff but if your gonna burn wood full time a machine is the only way to go…no pounding wedges through knotted hickory and white oak till your back is give out, you may get by for a while as a young man in his prime but trust and believe when 30 rolls around it is the only way!
@JohnDavis-tj1bl I'm 37 and splitting white oak with knots in Texas. Maybe it'll catch up one day but it's silly to think no man over 30 can split oak with an axe.
I’ve never seen a person hand-split a log with that amount of ease. Amazing.
Short pieces with straight grain aren't too tough.

@@naturewatcher7596green wood actually splits better, I’ve tried it both ways and I will take fresh cut wood to split over wood that has sat.
Thanks for this video: Now it is easy to tell which one to buy: Great job !!!
Can you fit those in your woodstove?
Do you have any advice for splitting fresh cut old growth red oak? I have the same maul and a few wedges.
My guess for that stuff, instead of trying to split through the middle…split around the edges.
@@PNWSawJunkie thank you for the advice.
After using this advice I was able to split a few, used the maul to get a crack and then drove a wedge in at the edge.
@@leonsquall5752there is some wood that just doesn’t split. I have run into white oak that won’t.
ARVIKA axe and i split all the wood in my area..and i am in B.C..the Arvika is light and easier to pack in and out of the bush..cheers..
I’ve been looking at Arvika axes. Will likely be pulling the trigger to get an Arvika 5 star. There are a few others I have my eye on too.

@@OutstandingCitizenI am 53, I am still splitting oak tree wood with an ax.... of course I don't go as fast but I do it slowly
💕Wow💛💛💚💚💚💛💚
I have both and love them. I can’t swing that maul all day though.
It is definitely a workout. Swinging that x27 is much easier on the body.
not my super split
Those super splits are awesome.

As long as you are a young guy with a good back, wait until you are older and your back is shot, you will cry to get a splitter!
I can understand that!
59 I will be in a few days and have done 100 full cord for the last ten years and no back problems.
