I had a gastrointestinal perforation June 4th of this year. Felt the stomach pain about 5 days prior, more annoying than debilitating. That Friday is when the perforation came, was in absolute agony and immediately went to the hospital. Was screaming in pain. Worst pain of my life. I had emergency surgery and was in the hospital for 5 days. Healing up now but still very tender. 14 staples. Glad it's almost over!
This was the most informative and comprehensive video to watch as a non-medical student. I had a peritonitis with a beginning sepsis when I was 3 years old due to a burst appendix and wondered what exactly happened, since I can't remember most of it or the pain. I'm very grateful to the doctors who treated me, even if I have a thicc scar in the abdomen region now. I'm glad I'm still alive.
Brilliantly clear. I have black sticky poo just now and have been advised to go to A&E but here in the UK on the last Saturday before Christmas I know I will sit in a hard plastic chair for 12 hours and see some poor exhausted Doc who isn't allowed to think anyway and if he does he'll be over ridden and I'll get sent home.
A friend of mine died within 5 hours of being diagnosed. They said she would not survive surgery to fix it. She was already in the hospital for ovarian cancer at the time.
Splendid. First time came across your channel and blown away by the quality of content. I needed a quick revision of the management of Peritonitis and I got more than what I was looking for. Thank you and continue your noble work.
This happened to me nearly 3 weeks ago. Watching telly and suddenly a shot of pain! This was the worst pain of my life!!! I struggled to breath and move, I could’t say more than one word without breathing. An ambulance came and took me to hospital, after been in A&E for hours and hours they finally got sick of me screaming in agony. An atheists came to see me and tried asking me questions, 2 questions that were asked were 1) do I consent to key hole surgery, 2) do I connect to be cut open should key whole surgery not be an option. To witch I contented to both, the pain was so much so that I carnt rember all of my time in A&E, only the pain is what I rember and short segments of A&E. I woke up the day after and the doctors came to see me. I was so out of it on pain medication that I could’t understand what they were telling me. The next day came and they explained it to me again. I had had key whole surgery on a perforated ulcer in the stomach. The stomach acid had attacked my body and caused sepsis, I had 2 drains in either side of my abdomen, a tube down my nose to my stomach, oxygen feed and catheter. After surgery I was not allowed to eat for just over a week, after day 3 I was allowed sips of water. I spent a week and 4 days in hospital, I am lucky to be alive according to the surgeon and consultant. The surgeon said it was the worst ulcer he ever seen, I was very lucky to gave gotten away with key hole surgery and lucky to be alive. I was signed off from work for 2 weeks after coming out of hospital and was told no lifting for 6 weeks other wise I risk a hernia in my abdomen setting my healing time further back, I do have a hemtoma just to the left of my belly button, docs say this will go in time. I am on a corse of my trablets now for the next 6weeks. This Video was very informational. My question is what corses the ex stream pain I felt??? Also why did I find it so so difficult to breath??? Thanks for your time and the vid
I had an almost identical experience. The pain!! Never felt that much in my life, I was asking to be sedated it hurt that much. I remember screaming when they moved my from my bed to the CT machine. It was the same with the questions, I could barely answer and remember the nurses hand shaking while I was signing off on having surgery. There was also shortness of breath which I thought was just due to the pain but I’m not sure. I had pain radiating from my shoulder which I’m puzzled by too. Unfortunately I didn’t have key hole surgery, they opened my up from navel to breast bone. I had the same oxygen/drainage tubes/tube from nose to stomach and drips with antibiotics and morphine. I lost 10ths in 2 weeks. Recovery took a long time as the core of my body was so weak. 3 years after that it happened again with the same outcomes. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I’m very lucky to live in a place that has all the medical care I needed and I didn’t have to pay for any of it.
I had an undiagnosed ruptured appendix. After 24 hrs observation, I had an appendectomy. The Dr's discovered peritonitis and septicaemia and then did a horizontal cut finding perforated small intestine too. Post surgery, I could not come out of anaesthetic, flat lined and then miraculously was revived. It was very traumatic as I had 4 year old twins who had already lost a birth mother to cancer. It took 6 years for me to physically recover from that.
My dad just died of this a week, it was so sudden. Just barely 24 hours of complaining of stomach pain and been diagnosed of intestinal perforation he died as he was being transported to another hospital for surgery 😭
My mother died because of this on 21st October 19. Why this happens to my mother doctor said she had a pain but she didnt feel because of diabetic.I lost my mother i agreed whatever doctor said but she couldn't survived.
I had a perforated stomach ulcer (Female, 28y/o) and luckily it was found and I had emergency surgery. Prior to surgery I was in the worst pain I’ve ever felt - my stomach was obviously sore and for some reason it felt like someone was hammering my shoulder with an ice pick. Can you explain why my shoulder would have been hurting in this case? I was in too much pain to ask at the time and forgot about it after surgery. Even with a 15-20cm scar running from my navel to my chest I count myself very lucky!
Same as my husband. Today we called ambulance, as he felt he was having a heart attack. Turned out to be a hole in his intestines. The hole creates air which travels up to the shoulder. Hence, shoulder pain.
My brother just died today because of this😢he was 41 years young and he just got married jan 27,2024 too.he went in er on Wednesday and they couldnt save him.organ failure and lack of oxygen😢
The thing where I can't help wondering how perforated bowel can cause anerexia or however you spell it, because I only remember hearing about anerexia being when a person keeps starving themselves, because no matter what they think they're still fat.
In the general medical sense anorexia means fear of eating which is what a person gets when their intestines or bowel has ruptured and become inflamed and obviously they associate eating with more pain.
This happened to me this past week. It was a close call. Got thr colostomy bag. When thr doc tells me he cant promise thr outcome...im sitting there in bewilderment and shock...like..is this real? Im going to die? Wild week.

My loved one had been in the hospital for six weeks due to covid-19. But I noticed that some symptoms are the same for covid-19 and GI perforation. When he was ready to be discharged, he complained about abdominal pain and was told an emergency surgery was necessary due to a severe colon infection. He underwent two surgeries within three days of each other and passed away a few days later. Is it normal practice to 1. Leave wound completely opened? 2. Undergo surgery when just recovered from a six week hospitalization? 3. Undergo surgery when body is so weak? 4. Is an exploratory laparotomy or laparoscopy high risk? 5. Would covid be a direct impact on this colon condition? 6. What went wrong if the surgeon said the surgery went well yet my loved one passed? 7. Did the doctors wait too long to properly diagnose him and possibly took action way too late?
I had pain for a while went to the ER because my pain sudden comes and goes, the ER said I have a small bowel Perforation and said they will give me antibiotics for a few days and the pain was less for me, do you think I need to do surgery or continue with my antibiotics?

Can anyone advise me please, I was doing sit ups yesterday and noticed that on the way up, when most of the tension was active, it was like a balloon was being inflated just under my solar plexus, no pain just a bit of worry, it feels like there's a hole in my stomach wall.
