You really did an excellent job man....and putting the two guitar parts together, WOW, very nice. Thank you for the lesson, I truly appreciate you teaching this! To anyone that thinks he needs to play beginning to end, bullsh*t....he taught you all you need, be thankful he showed us this!

    A, Bm, C#m, D
I knew the names of the shapes but with the capo on the second fret the bass notes or string names become F#, B, E, A, C#, F#. The chord shapes in the open position still please the ear as they do without the capo (at the nut), but when you use them here they’re not the same chords.
    You build a chord using the first note, the third and the fifth note of a key. Key of C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C. So a C chord is C, E, G.
I watched the rock and roll hall of fame thing the other day and Robert Smith plays A (open 2nd fret), Bm (barred 2nd fret), C#m (barred 4th fret), D (barred 5th fret) and it reverses and walks back down. So in order to sound close both the 1st and 2nd guitar you capo to avoid much of the barring but you still have to play A, Bm, C#m, and D.
The first chord with capo at 2nd fret looks like a G, but it’s root is an “A” 5th fret 6th string and using the above formula you’ll see it’s an A chord. The next looks like an Am but the root is the capo or 2nd Fret 5th string so it’s a Bm. The Bm is actually a C#m and the C shaped chord is a D.
    The chords you didn’t know are a D, a C#add9, a Bm7 and back to the A

Hi mate, I was searching for covers of people playing this song so I could try and copy and found this. Been playing with it all weekend and I've finally got it fluent. Cheers for the easy guide. I would have considered this too hard for me, but smashed it now.

hey man...just wanted to thank you for this tutorial. I play it all the time but never remember to say thank you. It's one of the best because is captures all the sounds of the song instead just of the chords. When people take time to record these videos and upload them to people you don't even know...well....it's appreciated.

Georgiarose I've been following you for years now, think I found your page the first week after buying my first guitar, must be at least 7 years now. And ever since, without fail, every time I think of a song I want to learn, you've invariably put up a cover or tutorial of it. I owe you a huge thanks!

Brilliant, thanks. And your acoustic rendition just erased 36 years of cobwebs to what still is a great song. Time to tune up the old Martin ... cheers.

That's good tune, you got it in my head...okay I learn it ....and make it "the song of the day" (I'll play it over and over and over and over and...you get the idea, haha). Great.

yes I would agree with a comment below, if you played the finished versions all the way through, either at the beginning or at the end, it would be a big help in putting all the little pieces together, that up to this point I had been learning seperately...

Brilliant! Keep The Cure coming mate. They are hard to emulate since Robert actually plays a 6-string bass. You pull it off well. Thanks much!

just like to say how much i enjoy your tutorials! quite a beginner myself and need a gap between chords sometimes to get my fingers sorted, or slow it down some (practise!) but its great to play your versions which i find usually sound better than many of the others on here. Keep up the good and useful work. Beats the shit out of playing the dross in my book! Greensleeves anyone?!

interesting approach. The song is in Amaj, and you play it with the capo at the second fret to combine the rhythm and the lead and keep it in key. Good lesson. I am always curious to learn how to combine various lead and rhythm voices and colors into one guitar. I will try this.
