It warms my heart to hear how important “people” are in the Leica organization. My grandfather told me many times when I was young that the secret to his business success was as simple as 1, 2, 3………good people, good product, and good service. Leica has that in my opinion from what I have seen,l heard, and read over the last several years. Thank you Hugh for what you do.

    My colleague/associate in our studio even traded-in her A7RIVs and brand-new A7RV for two SL3s. She’s been a die-hard Sony professional for years. That’s how good the SL3 is…

Thanks Hugh! This was a great conversation. It’s always interesting to hear from people who are behind the design of the product itself. I’m hoping I can make it to Wetzlar one day as well.
I wish we could also learn about aspects of the camera that were difficult to decide on. What did they struggle with the most? For example have they considered using stacked sensor to make the SL3 stronger for video and wildlife/action? Did they seriously consider redesigning the chip (even late in the product development) to fit in the hardware necessary for CAI (and perhaps couldn’t due to time constraints)?

As an SL2s user I would value the introduction of the tilt screen but it seems a pity that it does not allow for portrait orientation. Also, I would have appreciated a sensor shield as present in the Nikon Z8. Finally - I hope that there will be an SL3s!

I am emotionally attached to my SL2-s with APO glass 35-50-90 for me. I can crop in to the SL as far as i can with my M11 due to the glass. Interesting to see where it can go with the best glass available on the m11 sensor.

Hey Hugh-- just went through the whole set of your SL3 release videos a couple of times..I'm knee deep in L mount gear (including EF with the Sigma adapter)..There was some interest on my part for an SL2S before the Lumix S5IIX came out ..now.. with the SL3,, I'm swinging back to which kidney might be superfluous. .. I'm Holding That Thought for another day. I few of my camera buddies and I were discussing it amongst ourselves,,and one of the younger guys wondered out loud why the project didn't have a Star Wars name--- I replied.."Star Wars isn't real..".. Thanks for the Wetzlar updates...

I have ordered my SL3 plus Sigma 65mm F2 and am looking at used APO 35mm Sl Summicrons. A video about SL3 and favorite lens choices for 2024 would be very welcome because things are not simple with so many lenses! (Sigma, Panasonic and Leica)

S and M lenses work very well on the SL cameras via the adaptors. You’ll give up some AF speed with S lenses, and you’ll MF with M lenses. Focus peaking makes it easy. Voigtlander glass is good to have in your bag as well.

For me the 5.79 is perfect for me. The 9.6 would drain the battery even more and the one in the Sony A1 gave me headaches. I’m using the SL2 since 2y and the SL3 since a week. The combination of resolution, refresh rate, view field, magnification, eye point and calibration options makes it the best evf I’ve ever used. I wear glasses btw.

Very, very interesting. As I’ve said, I don’t begrudge Leica my savings EXCEPT when they rebadge Panasonic Lumix S lenses and call them Leica. That’s a bad look. But their classic lenses and these wonderful camera bodies: I love them like the lovelorn worships his inamorata. Leica SL3-S and M11 Black Paint - someone, confiscate my bank cards. But I must be sensible.
My stats tell me I have now commented on 3BMEP 84 times: I figure that must be enough from me already.

I can understand the inherent limitations of the M system that I love and own......but there are no excuses for the SL3
The sensor is not stacked and requires the use of neutral density filters with fast optics that are the signature and legacy of the Leica look.
The autofocus system is bad, at least this problem is recognized in the interview..........looks like a transition product to something better in the future........i hope.

Bad AF? NO! Significant improvement over SL2? YES.As good as our Sony a7R V? No. Please don’t misrepresent what I said.
