Absolutely. That said, it's very satisfying to see someone actually doing a good job, just because these things should actually be done well. The alternative is that the machine goes in the rubbish, thus wasting it's materials and a new one gets bought unnecessarily....Humanity literally can't keep living as though everything is disposable just because some business graduate thinks that makes for a better bottom line. I live in hope that humanity comes back around to the idea of restoring and preserving what already exists as long as it can be made to function sufficiently well.

One time a few years ago I bored out some 8620 steel tubing…..it resulted in spiral chips , nice and straight, about a meter long, poking out the rear of the headstock! Coolest chip I ever made.

CaLem, I was not joking with you. You really can use the microwave to heat bearings as long as you wrap them in a wet paper towel. If you don't believe me, try it with just a scrap of metal. The wet paper towel is what makes it work. The water molecules except the energy more easily than steel. There are no sparks, no fire, no damage to microwave. Seriously, give it a try. It's very convenient, you will like it

Yeah i do understand how microwave works. Hairdryer worked well too. I just didnt want any water on those bearings, definitely will try on others application.
7:45 You need to say the magic words "Focus you fuck!". Then it will come to focus. Tried, tested, and perfected by a famous Canadian TH-camr. Try it next time. But you have to say it with conviction.

Bob Cawley used to say to me in a similar vein "If Civilisation ever collapses, with a Bridgeport, a lathe and a micrometer, you could rebuild it". Scary moment when the workpiece went into orbit! Nice recovery
