I love Don Henley's voice. He was born the same month, day, and year as a very long time friend of mine. July 22, 1947. I have never heard Don sing this. I love it. Has anyone ever seen the TH-cam clip of Don talking about these run down apartments they all lived in? Jackson lived in a basement type conversion and Don learned how to write songs from listening to Jackson. Each morning, Don would hear Jackson's tea kettle whistle, then Jackson would be at the keyboard, playing the same thing, over and over. I loved that story but can't find it anymore.
The interview is on one of the Eagles’ history movies. I don’t remember which one. My recollection is that Glen Frey told the story of hearing Jackson writing his songs & playing parts over & over as he wrote them. Wonderful story.
It is on one of the Eagle history stories. Jackson Brown would get up in the morning and Don and Glenn would have been writing all night and would be trying to sleep. Definitely an influence.

Jackson, JD, Don & Glenn while down the canyon the Crosby and Young and Joni were all in play. In a million years, that musical caldron will never repeat. I saw Jackson Browne and James Taylor in concert last month in New Orleans!!! It was phenomenal!! I've been a huge fan of them both for many years now!! I love the song Sky Blue and Black!! I cry every time I hear it!! I've also seen Jackson in concert with Bonnie Raitt!! Damn they harmonize well together!!
I don`t know whether who sings it well but this song whoever sings it catches something in my heart..about things I regret haven`t done and have given to others....such a poignant piece angst and honesty.....

Had a family and babies to raise but me and the hubby always continued our musical persuits He passed in 2008. It's just not fun now. No harmony in this house. This is the video I woke up with today. I will use this as an inspiration to make the day a good one. Altho I feel like crying. Getting old sucks!
This song is so beautiful! Lyrics and music. And it is more incredible and amazing that Browne composed it when he was just 16 yers old. Such an precocious composer. And also one more thing: Where was this video recorded? I am from Uruguay, and there we have 600 km of coast; sea and ocean, and beaches just like the one that appears on the footage. what a beautiful place! A number of you have the wrong group of people that lived together in Echo Park in the LA area. It was Glenn Frey and J. D. Souther living above Jackson Browne.
It is a very good version, maybe better than Jackson. But obviously neither of these men can sing like Greg Allman can sing. Jackson himself made it clear that Greg owns the song, when they sang it together in 2016 I think? at the Allman tribute concert. Greg Allman, Laid Back Album, his first and greatest solo album.
Don sings it in a bit of a high register and it takes away from the song and sounds a bit almost like bob dylan goin' on at the beginning ; Jackson does it best ❕✅ 🐊

First time I've heard this song by Don. One of my favorite Jackson Browne songs.
Jackson Browne actually lived below Don and Glen at one point in the 70's. They were friends and did a lot of jamming together.

I agree!! Greggs version is the definitive version to me. It has a little more sadness in it. Not to mention different lyrics
