how hard is it to split the case on the 850 motor? i'm having an issue where part of the dipstick broke off and is sitting at the bottom of the oil pan
Question for you. I sunk my 850, locked it up, plugs out it wont turn anymore at all. Pulled the starter still wont turn. I suspect i bent the rods. Based on your experience tearing it down, do u think i can pull the head and push up and out the piston/rods? Replace and reassemble? Or do u thjnk i have to tear it right down to pull the pistons/rods out?
Bummer! Sorry to hear it hydro locked but I hope you were at least having fun!Unfortunately you have to pull it and split the case to replace rods and pistons. Only way to do.
The gear was press fit on the crank, thry would slip as the miles were accumulated. Heavy throttle thumb too. Polaris fixed the issue as of Model year 2014.
@wilie09 no. Work at the time didn’t give me much time to film the process. You have to pull the engine and completely tear it down so it’s a highly involved process.
love watching these rebuild videos, keep them coming.
Great video Jason. Look forwardto seeing this rebuild.
Another great video! Always watching.

How do the two marks get off to mess the timing up?

what year is your 850? wanting to know if its the same for a 2021 year?
They fixed the issue by 2014 so you don’t need to worry about it with yours. This is a 2011
How much did Polaris charge you to fix the timing gear?
Fixed it myself so nothing…lol.
Is there a video of you fixing it?
Also is the a special tool for the pulley and gear removal
