I am so happy to hear you tell people about the wonderful jobs snails do for a tank. I love my snails and have the same two kinds as you do. Your tanks are dreams!
Gorgeous natural scape! I've just returned to fishkeeping after a very long break and have binged so much of your content over the last week that I feel I know your tanks better than my own 😆 thanks for inspiring an slightly aged fish keeper to pick up the hobby again.
I have a beautiful, bright red Ramshorn Snail in my aquarium. A snail has ganglia rather than a brain, so I don't expect much from them, but this one startled me yesterday. I had moved some things around in the tank. This snail hurried over to a small piece of wood, laid over so it's shell was flat on the gravel, worked it's way under one side of the wood, then righted itself and lifted the wood. There was a smaller snail of a different breed under the wood. Once it was out, the bigger snail reversed the steps and put the wood down then went on its way. It also shoves plants around like a little bulldozer, which is normal, but rescuing an individual that isn't even kin to it surprised me.
That’s awesome! I wouldn’t have expected that either. I wonder if they emit some kind of distress chemical others can sense.. their main function is basically to clean so it makes sense that they would naturally work together to accomplish the goal. Animals are so interesting
love it! Your tanks have been inspo for my current 10 gall betta and chilli rasbora jungle tank. Its doing amazing. Dont have to do water changes, just top ups. Recently added a pothos to join the bamboo growing out of it. Love it.
I congratulate you on finding a way to live your dream while making a good income. As a viewer, I want to see more balance between plants and fish. What I'm trying to say is, I'd like to see you dig out some plants and remove them when the tank over grows and looks like an underwater jungle. There has to be enough swim room or it's not really a fish tank anymore. I noticed that you talk about plants 70 percent of the time. Since I haven't put cash nor labor into the project, I really should keep my ideas to myself. Would you please do a high priority swim tank. I do enjoy your videos.
I have started to like the idea of mulm on the substrate after starting a blackwater tank. The substrate was a basic white-ish pool filter sand (as there wasn't going to be much in the way of root-feeding plants), and the dusting of broken-down leaves and snail/shrimp/fish poop looks very 'real'. I have started to appreciate the little clouds kicked up when the khuli loaches scarper when I approach the tank (it's often all I see of the little beggars - that puff of disturbed mulm 😂) Definitely a positive element in blackwater, unlike my more manicured clearwater setups.
My blackwater tank has loads of mulm in it the only part I really clean are the leftover algae tab bits after a day. I think it looks interesting along with the dirt layers showing the various elements to the bottom of the tank as well. It reminds me a bit of those bottles of colored sand that were popular at carnivals back in the 90s, only less crazy-looking. =p
I am still learning from you! Loved seeing how you maintenance these tanks, gives me tips on how to do all of mine! I too love the snails, my ramshorns are blue, they are so cute and spotted when they are young!
Rotala rotundifolia. Rotundifolia means ‘round leaved’. My water lettuce gets much bigger than that. Clear out the little ones and keep a big one growing until it gets really big. They look awesome.
Looking for some advice. I’m thinking of trying a 10 eco system tank with shrimp, snails, and maybe a few small fish. With a well established planted tank, would I need to feed the fish at all or will they find food among the plants?
Are you planning on adding more plant eaters to balance the ecosystem moving forward? Or are you happy with needing to intervene to maintain the ecosystem? Essentially making yourself an essential oart of the tanks ecosystem...
What is the longest running tank you have had? I fully intend to follow your methods, but just wonder if you have ever experienced old tank syndrome. I expect to run my 40B for years. Thanks!
MD what’s the name of the Lilly pad type plant in this tank. I love it and would like to find one. If you could let me know would be appreciated. Thanks and keep up the great work.
I've recently tried to build a tank the MD way but for some reason my water turned brown and even after water changes it still stays brown. Any tips that could help please

It's such a vibe when you hack back that greenery to reveal driftwood and branches that we'd forgotten about
The Monte Carlo looks amazing! All of your plants are thriving so beautifully. This is such an inspiration 🥰
So many people over work their aquariums, I love how you go against the grain and prove there is more than way to enjoy the hobby.
Love the natural nature tank! All mine are setup this way.
You are very talented and your tanks are always so inspirational. Thanks for your great videos.

This is my favourite tank you’ve ever made! Wow I love how all the plants look even overgrown
It's amazing having a green thumb especially with aquatic plants. 😁💦🌿🌿🌿🌿

Idea for a video. Parameters of your water, gh,kh,ph, nitrates and phospate. Your plants are always so perfect👏
I have a wild tank like this as well and my gold tetras are now having babies :)

Love the update, glad to see the snails thriving! 🙂
Brilliant work you have some gorgeous tanks 👌
Beautiful I love water lettuce, and it is illegal to have in Florida without a permit because it is so invasive.
I am still learning from you! Loved seeing how you maintenance these tanks, gives me tips on how to do all of mine! I too love the snails, my ramshorns are blue, they are so cute and spotted when they are young!

Both tanks look so good!!
FUll fact, the genus rotala is named as such due to it's "whorled" leaves. Thanks MD!
Wish mine would get that full, it has taken me so long to get my plants to grow
Echt ein wahnsinniger Pflanzenwuchs! Es wurde wirklich höchste Zeit einmal "die Machete anzusetzen"...😂
Collect the snails and give them to the puffers! Great food for them! 😉
Quite a different take, nice to see. Not sure if I would recreate it. Keep it up, please!
You should feed the puffers the snails... def helps with their teeth
Hope to have that wonderful aqua scape of urs too😢 watching always from phillipines❤
Need some of those plant send them over😂
Im a bit OCD, not sure I could leave that mulm in the corner, mind I'm not a fan of snails either.....but always love MD videos.
your tanks are beautiful

4:00 is that a crypt flamingo front and centre? Whatever it is, it looks fantastic 😍
9:10 - yip, crypt flamingo 🦩😂
magnifique scape !
I am sorry but this one before care looked like one from the junkies I got my first plants from 😂 Beautiful and quality plante by the way
bro i really love your aquascapes , i even made a scape seeing from your videos
How are your salt water tanks coming along?
Are you planning on adding more plant eaters to balance the ecosystem moving forward? Or are you happy with needing to intervene to maintain the ecosystem? Essentially making yourself an essential oart of the tanks ecosystem...
Great video what brand of tank is that and where can I buy online?? Thank you watching all your videos San Francisco 👍😀
i love you MD
Never done a proper aquascape before, now I want to scape 100 tanks 😂
Love this.
umm at the 7m 40 s mrk in the video.. is that a dead fish in the right corner? or is he pretending to be invisible?
hey bro please tell me how you get the ecosystem no filter style aquariums and get the water oxygenated for the fish?? im so confused
Oh yeah more MD magic
What is the longest running tank you have had? I fully intend to follow your methods, but just wonder if you have ever experienced old tank syndrome. I expect to run my 40B for years. Thanks!

Taiwan lily
Fab vid. 🙂💙🐟🐠🐬
Have you ever tried keeping rabbit snails?
7:00 is that fish hiding or caught and dead? And is that a skull in the bottom right corner? Kinda wished he cleaned those out
Maybe one day ill be brave enough to do an eco tank, but for now ill stick to basic planted tanks 😂
My favorite part of the video 👉🏽10:18 😂
Juicy ones😳
What filter and media is used?
am i the only one who shivers at the sight of a ramshorn lol
Why?
Where can in get these scissors?
I've recently tried to build a tank the MD way but for some reason my water turned brown and even after water changes it still stays brown. Any tips that could help please

Hi I'm from Sri lanka
Hi md
1 minute gang 👌🏼😀
am actually a 30 second one 😅
Your understanding of the word immersed is incorrect
Are you sure he wasn't saying emersed?
I AM SO EARLY OMG
0,0000000000001 sec gang 👇👇
I wish you were my neighbor - trading unwanted, junk plants, dead fish & water changes for a bumper veggie crop at the end of it. ^^
