Snakes can go a year or more with out food as long as they have fresh water. I had a ball python go off food for 11 months. I tried frozen thawed mice, rats and birds. I even tried live food ( something I hate doing ) all with no luck. Then one day he ate a FT mouse thank goodness. I was told this is not uncommon for Ball Pythons to do this. I was told someone had one that went off food for two years

Reptiles in general can go amazing time without eating but healthy snakes, crocks and gators can go a year or longer without eating :)

I spent a year on Guam in 1076 when in the uSAF. Things were pretty well at the time, and the island had much wildlife. I hear things are now horrible due to these snakes. Gua also has Agent Orange on it, as it was used there up until 1981 = ten years after it was banned. Because of that I now have severive connected Parkinson's disease and am ninety percent disabled. All because a few officers decided they know more than the EPA, who'd banned it.

So true about snakes being able to not eat for months. I have a Western hognosed snake that went on a hunger strike last August and didn't eat until the following May.
I got him as a baby and probably thought he was supposed to hibernate until the cold Canadian temps warmed up.

Introduce snakes that eat snakes, that don't climb trees, then put barriers around the trees, starting with the largest trees first, that the brown tree snakes can't get past, where birds are most likely to nest. Then at least all you have is a ground dwelling snake left to deal with, once the job is done. The barriers on the trees, if fitted with small holes can allow insect to pass, most of which could simply crawl around or fly past anyway. If there is a snake above the barrier already, it will eventually want to come down to either seek a new hunting spot or to mate. Once all the snakes leave that tree, the birds using them will be safe. I realize that this wouldn't be easy, but through time, I think it could limit the Brown Tree snake's stranglehold on Guam and help give the birds a new lease on life.

To eliminate both snakes and toads, they could try using pherones.
Bee remival services sometimes employ the pherones of a queen bee to atteact a colony.
Pherones of female snakes could be used to attract male snakes into a trap. The same applies to frogs.
"Fear" pherones could be used to chase the snakes and frogs from a location. Kerosene does the same. But pherones are more environmentally friendly.

A giant WAVE of cooking shows that showcase tasty and trendy recipes for the BROWN TREE SNAKE. The government can pay celebrities to eat these "gourmet reptiles" at their parties when they vacation in Guam.
But, you must name the "dish" something OTHER than "brown tree snake". "No predators," you say? They'll be hunted to extinction in no time.
