    Nice one Andy...... enjoyed that mate 👍. The hammock looks similar to the snugpak jungle hammock. That had the same kind of bug net design and I used to use a couple of sticks to spread it instead of the para cord that they included. I purchased a DD frontline hammock last year and I have been very pleased with it. The food looked good mate...... defiantly better than a canned all day breakfast lol. Fair play mate..... you are better off sacking it if it wasn't going to be an enjoyable night, there is always next time 😀. thanks for taking the time Andy, all the best, Mark.

      Cheers Mark, yeah i did look at the dd frontline, but i didn't want to invest to much £££ into it yet if i wasn't going to get along with it. Once I got home and dried out all my kit, i noticed the seam seal tape on my tarp is wearing away, so that may have contributed to the water leaking inside. I've had it since april 2015 and it's been out in all weathers. It may be time to retire it and replace. Yeah the meal was great, it really hit the spot, and re-energized me for the TAB back to the car in the rain lol. Thanks for stopping by mate, tkae care.

    We've all been there! Don't let it put you off hammocking - it's still the best night's sleep I ever have. An under quilt is well worth the investment too, or you could fashion one out of an old sleeping bag. I have the DD one and it's like having an electric blanket. Great vid and really enjoyed. Keep it lit! 🔥

      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers buddy, no I'm not put off, I'm still very keen lol. I dont gave an under quilt, but im pretty handy with needle and thread so I can try and put something together. Thanks for stopping by mate, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Take care 👍

      Cheers Terry, yeah I've learned a couple things since. Also after getting home and drying out my kit, I've noticed the seam seal tape has started to wear off. So the seals are compromised which probably caused the water to leak through aswell. Thanks for watching mate, take care.

    I know what you mean about your AE Knife. You need an Opinel no8 Garden Knife. Some paracord stripped out. Thread the outer through the Opinel makes a super sharp, Safe and light neck knife. Great for food prep and little tasks around camp. You forget you’re wearing it.
    Loved this. 👍🏻

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper
      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great shaped blade too. Handle fairly ergonomic as well. Mines inox so rust resistant as well. 👍🏻

    Ah what a gutter mate, had similar, I used a diamond formation, with dd super light pegs and a massive storm hit, blew the pegs out! Tarp flapping around, by the time I sorted the tarp all my gear was soaked! Packed up and went!
    Thanks for sharing mate,
    Ash

      Cheers Ash, yeah i was a bit disappointed, I was really looking forward to it. But yeah, once my bag was soaked that was it for me. Oh well, try again another day. Thanks for stopping by mate, take care.

    Tough luck things didn't work out as you planned. You did the right thing in pulling the plug on that one. Valuable lessons learned, no doubt. That was a gourmet supper you prepared though.

      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Patrick, yeah after getting home and drying out all my kit, alot of the seam seal tape has started to come away which would've contributed to the rain getting in. Its an old tarp, a 2015 vintage lol. Yeah the food was great, loved evry bite. Thanks for stopping by mate, take care.

    Funny old bagpipes you're playing there Andy 🤣😂🤣 you could of wrapped some paracord around the loop to tighten it, like your going to do with the sewing. A shame mate give it another go soon eh? Lee

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper
      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, bagpipes, it felt like that at times mate. I should've had my sewing kit with me, I could've done the mod on the fly, school boy error lol. Yeah I'll def be trying it again mate, the hour I spent lying in it before it all kicked off was really comfortable. Thanks for watching Lee, take care.

    Shit happens Andy and you live and learn, you'll not be the first or last for things to go wrong. You reach a point in your life when you're mature enough to say "sod it" and as you say, you've had plenty times doing that stuff as a pongo and this is for fun.
    I've still not got round to the hammocks, I will at some point but always like to see how others get on. Thanks for sharing your experience, its great to see how folk are doing their thing, I'm a selfish git, I don't take vids although I take some pictures for a forum I'm on. Keep them coming mate, many thanks for taking the time to film and share.

      Cheers buddy, yeah as you say, things were learned on this trip. I'll be going hammock camping again soon. I did try it a few years ago, but it was a busy time for me in the Army so i didn't put much effort into it. But though i'd have another crack. Thanks for stopping by mate. What forum are you on, if you dont mind my asking? Take care.

    Shame the tarp wasn't bigger, I'd have turned it into the tipi configuration and ground dwelled instead of hammock given the weather.
    Anyway, the footage was appreciated and nothing quite like the sound of rain against the shelter! ATB

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper
      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers buddy, yeah i should've taken my bivi bag, then my sleeping bag wouldn't have gotten wet in the hammock. Thanks for stopping by mate, I'm glad you liked the video. Take care.

    Sometimes when you feel you got to go, its best to go! My mate gave me two arrows from a bow and arrow set, I used one at each end of the hammock to hold the netting up. That middle loop, I know what you mean, I also don't like having the line under the tarp but what I do sometimes if its flapping a lot I lift it "if the ridge line is already set through" and double wrap it over the ridge line and tie just to make it a bit tighter. Thanks for sharing. Take care.

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper
      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Rick, once I realised the bag was soaked through to it was decided. Thanks for the tips mate, I like that idea with the arrow shaft, and the middle loop. Thanks for stopping by, take care.

    We live and we learn mate, many an abandoned camp myself. You weren't left with much choice once your sleeping bag was soaked, would've been stupid to persevere. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a better experience on your next hammock camp. Atb Shaun

    It's not fun sleeping in a wet setup I have done the same to all my tarps them loops are just to big .to keep rusty happy set your hammock lower that's what I had to do for Betty atvb jimmy😎😎

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper
      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Jimmy, yeah I'm gonna sew all the ridge line loops. I don't want this happening again. Good shout on lowering the hammock, although it might make it easier for Rusty to jump in lol, I'll end up with a midnight visitor. Thanks for watching, take care.

    It's a pity you had to abort your camp, but in the circumstances I guess you were right to do so. At first sight, I didn't like the look of those twin ridge lines supporting the bug net (and no drip lines). I don't know what the fuss is on YT with One Tigris equipment......I need to research......is it price, or what? Good to see you out with your best friend Andy. Best wishes, D.

    • @Woodsman_wildcamper
      @Woodsman_wildcamper  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers Douglas, yeah i think i made the right call in the end with my sleeping bag getting soaked. I'm not happy with the bug net suspension lines either, some people have suggested a couple of lightweight poles to go through the loops at each end and tie those off to the trees instead. I'll work something out.
      Yeah One Tigris are getting alot of hype recently with the "bungalow" tents etc. I bought their hammock because it was a cheap alternative for an intro hammock. I didn't want to invest to much money at first incase I dont enjoy it.
      Thanks for stopping by mate, take care
