Thanks for the shoutout mate. Alex Bluetonic put me into the vid as I missed it when it dropped. Great overview, this is a showcase for what the Amiga can be all about when coded right. Will by buying this digitally when it’s out for sure.
I read an article on this last week and thought it looked fantastic. Even better to see it running with your iconic commentary! 😁 Great video Pete, thanks for sharing.
@@onaretrotip , it's funny that @RetroCrisis mentioned Final Fight, as there is a Sega Genesis/Mega Drive homebrew port of it being made that is called Final Fight MD, and it's a surprisingly well done port of the game...so far, anyway.
Played the weekend and thought it was stunning for what is an early not complete demo. Amazing what they managed on stock a500 Lovely Parallax, neat little animated bits in the background and the 2 button support makes it a joy to play
The game is looking amazing and looks likely to be the best scrolling beat em up on Amiga by a fair bit. I haven't had a chance to play the demo yet but in your opinion how does the gameplay compare to the first Streets of Rage game?
@edy1361 mix of both final fight and streets of rage . Remember only a demo so hopefully a bit more enemy variation will be added in as can get a bit repetitive seeing the same ones . Also be great if they add in weapons as currently the bad guys drop but u can't pick them up
really awesome! Looks straight up Final Fight at first but seems pretty innovative! Love the music and bass lines... makes me think itd be pretty rad to have a BEAT'em up thats kind of dance-based and you get bonuses, block and string combos together by being on the beat
What they have acheived with this games is outstanding. I must mention that it is not 50/60fps but it's running at 25/30 fps on Standard OCS Amiga anyway, (depending on PAL or NTSC) although it does appear to be smooth so easy mistake to make. Great vid from you as usual.
@@adroharv5140 Ye ive seen a few comments on different vids getting that mixed up. I think folk are assuming it because the game runs so well in general. The original Streets of Rage runs at only 30fps as well but in places does display tons of enemies on screen at once on the highest difficulty, over 10 if i recall correctly. My impressions so far on 'Metro' is it is right up there on quality with SOR1 and maybe even surpass it graphically, and gameplay is looking very promising. Have you played the demo yet? If so, do you feel it plays as good as SOR1 or too soon to tell?
@@chapofabout6 I've not played the demo but watched a fair bit of footage now to sense it's a thorough effort in this area that hasn't truthfully been seen on Amiga My humble opinion from that though is it's shaping up to be on par with SOR1 and seems to have the benefit of being made today with the hindsight of higher expectations of game mechanics for such a game. Possibly just because it now has two buttons at least with which to design the mechanics around, and I think it shows in this regard over what we may have expected were it to have been designed back in the day
Oh really? The blurb said 50 fps and the video files I captured showed 50, so I assumed it was. Thanks for clarifying. Still, brilliant game so far on the good old Amiga! Cheers ;)
@@onaretrotip Easy mistake to make as on top of it saying '50fps' it generally just runs smooth. I'd love to see a Megadrive port with more sprites and full 50/60 fps. That would be fairly easy to acheive n the Megadrive.
It really does like if the character designer for Body Blows had been tasked with Streets of Rage. Much higher quality animation than Body Blows, obviously, but the chunkiness of the sprites and the polished colour all give it that Amiga feel. Mega Drive games, SNES games or Capcom CPS games - none of them has the same feel. Cadillacs and Dinosaurs comes close texture- and colour-wise, I guess, but still not the same. Wonderful work!
Definitely looks cool. I have no personal attachment to the Amiga, but it makes me just as happy to see homebrew efforts like this as whenever someone brings a new game to the Mega-Drive/Genesis or something. An awesome effort by everyone involved! And can I just say, frankly, I find it baffling that jump and then jump does something here but not in any other normal beat 'em up or fighting game? I know the Amiga is limited with regards to inputs, but dang, that seems like something that should do stuff in EVERY melee-focused game from the past 3 decades, lol.
@@onaretrotip , I think that some super long named South Korean beat-em-up/side-scrolling brawler/conveyor belt fighter game for the PC did it around 1998. I think that the game translated to "A Night Where Good Things Are Bound to Happen", or, if you want its original name, "Eojjeonji Joheun Il-i Saenggil Geot Gateun Jeonyeok".
Looks very vivid and colorful. Supposedly, in spite of the amazing sound capabilities, the Amiga can only show 32 colors onscreen at a time- half that of the Genesis. But this is very pretty- loving those indigo and lavender hues. Would love to try this!
3:26 😂😂😂 it’s the build up, the best part of it lol everytime I see a game like this, I’m never interested. I think it’s because they look the same like clones of streets of rage. But as you say this requires thought , and looks great for an Amiga game 😮
I do agree the characters do look a tad like body blows, but unlike body blows this looks great fun. Really impressive mate, definitely something I would love to play.
Does it map the Cd32 controller to the complicated button set? Without distinct buttons for each move I'm afraid I'd just button mash my way through. Always loved watching games, and I had hundreds of legally purchased titles in my youth, but it was always the artistry that grabbed me, not my naff playing skills. I've been excited about this but if there's any friction in the gameplay I'd probably just watch videos like this one. (I haven't read all the comments so maybe this has alreaey been answered.)
I'm not sure at the moment. I think it's just the two-button setup at present. Early demo though, so who knows what they'll implement. Would be great to be able to choose your own mappings for the moves.
I tried running the .lha file on my A500 mini but couldn't get it to run. Next time I'll try the .adf files and will let you know if it works. Really want to play this demo as I love the Streets of Rage games.
Amazing, and please, don't offend this game saying it looks like body blows. It doesn't, it's far more like the classics it's paying homage like final fight and streets of rage.
It doesn't have exactly the same meaning. Most games that display "2 players" are made by non-English speakers (french, spanish...). A simple Google search to see for yourself. Afterwards, you do as you want. Congratulations for the great work in progress! :)

Thanks, Dru! Def one you should check out mate, being a beat 'em up fan.
This has Final Fight DNA all over it. Looks great though - surprised it's an Amiga game, the visuals and animation are amazing
Thumbnail make me think more of Streets of Rage 1
Absolutely. Clearly drew inspiration from the classics of the genre, but amazing to see on the Amiga.

Agreed. Really promising so far!
You're the second person I've watched to feature this game, The demo looks and sounds great, Fantastic review mate
Thanks! Very promising so far.
Brings me back to the Double Dragon III days on Amiga (always loved Rosetta Stone). and 0:50 "Engine 9000" is a new game-engine or something?
Yes, that's the game engine made by Enable.

Yeah, looking forward to seeing the final game.
Oh my.. this looks excellent! I can't wait to see what the final version will be like. Reminds me quite a bit of Vendetta. Very cool!
Yes, def some Vendetta vibes!

I did wonder if that was correct as that would have been quite the achievement. Still excellent of course and looking like a very worthwhile game

I wish we had such a game back then! I hope it gets released on Steam too, considering I don't have my Amiga anymore.
I'm sure they'll find a way to release on PC, or failing that, WinUAE is an easy way to emulate Amiga games.
This looks great..... clearly inspired by SOR & Final Fight.
