Act 2 of the opera TUESDAY from LIGHT. Eight-channel electronic music (called Oktophonie when performed separately) is projected from the corners of a cube surrounding the audience throughout Act 2. The act is divided into three large sections, together containing eleven scenes, though they run continuously without a break

I am always moved hearing this act of DIENSTAG. I participated as a student in the choir of "Jenseits - Synthy-Fou and Abschied" during the first performance at the Gulbenkian Festival in May 1992 in Lisbon, rehearsing with Stockhausen for weeks..
I never understand why Licht always was subject to mass criticism. This music is sublime (as with most other Stockhausen works!). Many thanks for putting this up!

I know this piece very well in the pure electronic form as OKTOPHONIE, but I've never heard the full operatic version. Amazing how much difference in mood the live music brings to the electronics, and how well they fit together.

The piece was meant as a celestial experience of the zodiac, and as such, involves vast stretches of time and space. Just as with the real celestial zodiac, only portions of it may be percieved at any point in time and space.

Is this Number (or should I say nummer?) 40 German Edition at Stockhausen Verlag CDs??? The site depicts the same cd cover graphics but does not contain the words "Invasion Explosion" as part of it's title.
Yes, CD 40 is the complete opera Dienstag aus Licht, of which this is the second act (on the second of the two CDs).

In the 'classical' or 'serious' realm, there hasn't been any leadership since Stockhausen imo.

I guess Stockhausen took us to an outer space world music… for the western tradition.
