- If you are a bit of an problemsolver and/or a engine nerdy-type kinda guy, then this video may be to your liking. In this video I will do my very first attempt (ever in my life) to synchronise the carbs on my Suzuki GS450 caferacer. If you have any suggestions please leave them in the comments.

to synchronize the carbs you need to adjust the throttle. you turned the idler screw. but there is another little screw where the throttle cable is hooked in. this is the only way to synchronize. with this screw (countered) you change the position of left "flap" in the carbs to the right "flap". loosen the counter, turn the idler screw up to 1500-1800 rpm an then turn the screw under the throttle cable in or out until the needles of both gauges are at same position, fix counter. then turn idling down to around 750rpm. the small screws on the sides are for idling mixture (gas -air mix), turn one by one in or out until highest idling. turn idling up to 1500rpm and check gauges again. maybe synchronize again. then bike will better react. dont think the valves or something is wrong
I’ll have a go ! Cheers👊
Good luck getting the vacuum in sync, it can take some time but you will eventually get there 👍😊 Have you measured the compression for each cylinder? I would have focused on the carbs if the compression is approx the same across cylinders. If compression vary you might want to look at that first. A few other tips: 1) if coil/spark plugs and wires are old, try to swap around and see if the problem moves along, or just measure coil/wires with a multimeter, coils can perform OK when cold and badly when warm 2) put a fan in front of the engine to avoid engine overheating 3) get some JIS screwdrivers - japanese industrial standard) 4) perhaps shorten or just skip the intro? 3sec is OK, 30sec is way too long in my opinion 😋
Thanks for the tips and pointers. 1) i will check compression again but this (was) oke at the start. 2) after the video i did swap the coils just to check, i had the right coil on the correct cyllinder.
3) if you look closely at the end you will see the fan i placed in front of the engine, but good tip anyway 👍.
4) And i agree on the intro, its to long so i will definitely look into that.
@@DutchedShedBuilds Great! Seems like you have it all covered 😊 about swapping coil, sparkplug-wire+cap and spark plug: it's not to check that you have connected it correctly. Of course you must make sure it all is wired correctly, but by swapping these components and still maintain correct wiring you can check if vacuum readings are the same or if it has moved together with the swap.
@@kihestad how did you like the new intro that you see in the winterbuild series?
@@DutchedShedBuilds well done, short, snappy and informative! 😊👍
Hallo from Germany, sehr schöner Umbau , Respect . Baue auch gerade eine GS 450 um. Wollte mal fragen welche K&N Luftfilter du benutzt
Thank you kindly @mrsunflower1965 . The podfilters actually came from the winterbuild GS that i bought a few monthes ago. So i dont know what make, model or type the are (not chinese crap btw). I can give you their dimensions if thats what you need? And i will be looking for podfilters for my winterbuild GS450 so i guess we are in this together!
@@DutchedShedBuilds Thank you for your prompt reply. Would like the dimensions.
what size jets did you use with those pod filters?
I went 2 sizes up from stock. But i have to say that the particular podfilters that are on the bike in this video are not good. I just ordered proper filters (K&N RC-1822) and start adjusting the carbs accordingly. I'll do a full video on the air/fuel mixture problem as i - hopefully - get it running good
